Fire Emblem 5 is one of the three FE games that I don't currently own, and that's mainly because it's so expensive and hard to find. Ebay generally offers the game for no less than $100 (often much more), and frankly I'm reluctant to spend so much on it.

So, <Subject title here>

And any other advice about getting this game would also be much appreciated.

If you see the deluxe edition pack or whatever it's called, buy it right away.

With the game as rare/obscure as it is I doubt you'll get a good price.

It's actually cheaper to buy a flashcart for your SNES, and far cheaper to mod/flashcart/emulator it.  Or even hooking your computer display to a TV.

Personally, I'd take Super Famicom Wars over Thracia any day, but I never see one for sale I wonder why Thracia NP  If you like the game, get it, or if you're a collector, really get it (there's rarer games out there though).  But for gameplay?  Pass it up.

If you're going to get it, don't take the game lightly.  Be prepared to be pissed off incredibly.

Some of the chapters have their easy moments though.  Especially the final boss, which is almost sad.

When your Shiva can one round them while they have 80 HP, then you know something's fucked up.  The rest of the final chapter is pretty annoying, though, especially the dark mages when you have like no keys.

Shiva is an awesome character though, so that doesn't really say much.

The fact MARTY can one-round them proves something, though (I believe Pukachi was the one who managed to do it with him...).

If you can one round someone that has 80 HP with someone whose caps reach up to 20, you know something's wrong.  It's not necessarily the fact that it's Shiva...

If you're serious about getting the Deluxe edition Play-Asia get them in stock occasionally. Protip: You can set Play-Asia to e-mail you when they have it in stock though from what i've found the e-mails are processed at a certain time of day meaning you can miss out through this

When they do it'll be $200 though. Before Fire Emblem became English getting the game was usually about $50 but times have changed.

But personally. No games are worth more than their RRP in my eyes. But given the fact many players struggle with the game on an emulator (savestates and all) there is the possibility of owning a cartridge copy but never being able to complete it.

Thanks for all of the input, guys.

In all honesty, you have convinced me not to try to get it.
