Well, we're on a whole new board with whole new features, so let me begin by explaining two of the most useful ones.
1. Quick edit. It has been a popular function on previous versions of FESS and I'm pretty sure people still want to use it on this one. In order to activate the quick reply, you first go to 'Profile', which can be found in the menu bar at the top (between 'search' and 'my messages'). After that, you need to click on 'Look and Layout Preferences' in the 'Modify Profile' subsection. Got that? Good. Now look for the 'Use quick reply on topic display:' section and select your preferable option.
2. While we're on this page, you should take notice of the 'Return to topics after posting by default.' section. This enables you to automatically return to the topic after you've posted in it. If you don't check off this box, you'll be returned to the topic list every time you post. Unless that has your preference, check off this box.

And note that it can be configured to start open at all times, instead of requiring a click to open.

Further tippage:
You can either modify your posts with the button on the top bar (between Quote and Remove), or use quickedit, which is the icon at the lower right side of your post.

One awesome new feature! You can now choose your member portrait distinctly from your gender! Awesome! Now I can have priscilla w/out getting transgendered! Honestly  ain't all that if you ask me. Now if the guy's members portrait was Canas with his pimp monocle, I might go for that. |

What do you need a buddy list for on a forum with less than 500 active members?
There's one out there, but it's 1.0RC2 only, and we run 1.1.4. If they update it I can add it, but when I run the installer it gives me about ten "test failed" messages, and I don't know whether it will actually work right if I integrate it ANYWAY.

Buddy lists are kind of pointless anyway unless you mean like for PMing. Speaking of which, does anyone know if they have quick lists (or the possibility of getting one) for PMing people on here? It's useful when people have a hard to spell screen name... Or would that be the same thing on this forum?

I see that, but it's a lot easier with a drop-down list like we had on FESS4. I mean if it's hard to spell, typing it might be a problem, whereas if it's a drop-down list of people you've added you don't have to remember or guess. It's there.
It's not necessary, especially if it'll cause an issue with coding or some such; I was just wondering.

Click button, type *bus*, Superbus pops up. Wildcards are your friends, and the popup box can be used for more than one search.
IPB's system is great if the year is 2001 and cross-frame programming doesn't exist.
