I'm thinking of importing a couple of RPGs from Japan since PS3 (not PS2) games are region free.

Compile Hearts (Cross Edge) is a combination of Gust, Nippon Ichi, Capcom, Idea Factory.
I'm curious about the Namco x Capcom 2 game.

I'm going to go ahead and reccommend Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.

Yeah, I'm sure you're all about to label me insane for it, but it's actually a pretty good game. The characters and enemies are balanced, a single level isn't everything, nor is it nothing, it has a handful of sidequests along with a couple optional characters, and despite being in the style of a JRPG, it still manages to feel fast-paced because performing special moves (and avoiding enemy special moves) is done by doing stylus motions comparable to the likes of what you'd find in Elite Beat Agents. Because of that, you can't just set down the game and IM people or get a drink or something after you select your moves, otherwise you'll never hit with your special attacks and will be in for some major pain during the enemy's turn. This means that skill and strategy matter most in this game, which is the way it should be in an RPG.

The story is okay, nothing particularly special, but it's passable. Gets a few extra points for explaining things that were never explained before.

Of course, if you can't stand the story, you have the option to take the least amount of text possible (which will basically amount to what you need to do next and where to do it) and jump right back into the action. Likewise, if you prefer to learn a bit more about what's going on, you can ask questions, discuss stuff with your teammates, or answer in different ways to get different reactions. You can even make Sonic a complete asshole if you want.

All in all, I'd say Bioware has managed to accomplish was Sega could not: a good Sonic game that goes outside the box.

Got a few to list off, as well:

Dead Space succeeds in its promise to be a wholly terrifying game. I'll admit, there's not much more to Dead Space than atmosphere, but goddamn, that's reason enough to get it. There are some control issues. It'll take a minute or two to get used to moving your dude around, but once you get into the swing of things you won't notice it anymore. I have yet to beat Dead Space, and honestly that's because it scares the pants off me, but because of that, I strongly recommend this game. Any game that can make you geniunely tense or nervous while playing is worth looking into, and there isn't a moment in Dead Space where you aren't afraid of a zombie-alien dude falling from the ceiling to tear you limb from limb.

I bought Far Cry 2 for the map editor. While I can tell you now, the map editor is nothing short of phenomenal, that actually plays second-fiddle to the main game- which to be honest, I wasn't expecting much from. Far Cry 2 has you play in an open map world. Your character is hired to take down a high profile arms dealer in an unnamed African country, and it's pretty much entirely up to you as to how you go about this. The map is simply huge, and every bit of it is absolutely gorgeous. As for the gameplay, I hate to say it, but it's entirely standard FPS fare. The plot, also, takes quite a long time to actually develop, and isn't all that strong. Multiplayer in and of itself isn't all too spectacular either, but the addition of the map editor, which is expansive- to say the least- easily makes up for the standard modes. The graphics are overall excellent, but fall into the "reality is made of brown and gray" trap.
