Eh, we could have possibly used that instead of SMF. So we could go to a remotely-hosted system by people of dubious technical proficiency who still have not done a very trivial SQL rollback to get our FESS2 stuff back, as well as an untested board system that could very well be shit in a can. We can also get ads and other crap back. Or...we can run our own shit and not have to worry about that. |

Let me get this straight: We went from Invisionfree to Invision Power Boards because we wanted to control our resources on our own website. Just being at Invisionfree hurt us because Jet destroyed them, and I can't get so much as an SQL dump (I last contacted them on the 23rd, saying "Hey, guys, not kidding, I need that SQL dump, or a restore, now"). We then went from an Invision Power Board license that has cost me $460 over the past two years to the free Simple Machines not because of money, but because Invision Power Boards was coded by angry monkeys that hate humankind, and we couldn't do a fucking thing to it and still be supported at $80 a year. Mind you, let me reiterate: WE LEFT PAID, PROFESSIONAL SOFTWARE FROM THIS COMPANY THAT I HAVE SPENT A HALF A GRAND ON BECAUSE IT SUCKS. And now, you're talking about us going from a free, totally controllable forums software that we can do - and have done - anything with (our only restriction is a request to not remove the copyright at the bottom of the board; otherwise, it's open source), to go to someone else's server, run by their rules, waste the $400 a year I pay in hosting ($240 not counting Velthomer's storage, which will likely go to another project that I'm a part of) as well as the $70 I just paid in domains, and to have it be the same fucking company I just left in anger, and am in the process of typing an extremely long "fuck you" letter to? And to have to deal with their advertisements, their "we can change this when we want" TOS, and their "if you break it fuck you" support policy? And no control over our SQL, other than to have the right to pay for a transfer to other Invision software? Are you on fucking drugs? |
