The Duke of Tanas. What The Hell? (Spoilage)

Quite simply, while I was playing the chapter with Oliver, I accidentally let Rafiel get too close to the Duke of Tanas. As soon as the enemy's turn started, Oliver says a little spiel, then grabs Rafiel, resulting in a victory for my team. In addition to that, Oliver joined my party without any sort of word as to why?

What the hell happened?

Oliver can join your team in this game, by talking to Rafiel on enemy phase, thus what happened to you. I don't remember why exactly, but I think it was just that he didn't want "such beauty" getting harmed, so he'd rather try to protect him.

If he talks to Ike in that chapter (meaning an enemy other than him must be alive), he tells Ike that if Rafiel won't stay with him, he will follow Rafiel in order to prevent the goddess's army from killing the herons.

He always did say he was a protector of beauty, after all...

I find it fairly hilarious there's a fair number of people who got Oliver unexpectedly. The reaction afterwards is almost always priceless.

Oliver joins you to protect the beauty, yes. He says so in the conversation that goes on between Oliver and Rafiel when you get him, actually.

And if Oliver turning into a Lorenzo di Medici type post-game doesn't say anything about the beauty freak that he is...

And yeah, I have a funny story about Oliver, too. I interpreted the recruitment conditions as 'go to him with Rafiel and talk with him', so I tried to do that, but then nothing happened. Then, I let the way get paved for Oliver, and he came to Rafiel. (Rafiel's reaction to what Oliver says? Priceless. ) And since Oliver was the only son of a bitch left on the map, I won the chapter.
