Wow. And I just posted a topic of my own on this. Whoops.

Anyways, I'll just move my comments to here:

Gilliam: He looks pretty cool in his concept art. Nothing much else that I can say, really.
Franz: Aw! Just look at him! He looks so... innocent...
Moulder: Definitely looks much better than his sprite, so yeah...
Vanessa: Wow, she's hot in her concept art. Too bad the sprite couldn't replicate that.
Garcia: Yeah. You definitely get a somwhat better feel for his character in the OA, since he doesn't look like an idiot in it.
Neimi: Aw! So cute! I wanna squeeze her to death!
Colm: Definitely got some Matthew-ish vibes going for him. Not only that, but that cape he has? Cool.
Artur: Yeah. Not much I can say about him...
Lute: Definitely shows her curious side. Plus, she's also really cute!
Natasha: It's no wonder she and Joshua get married if you give them an A support; she's absolutely beautiful in her OA.
Forde: He's got a cocky attitude in his OA, but still, it's pretty cool.
Kyle: He concentrates too much. The eyes in the OA bother me, but otherwise it looks pretty cool.
Orson: Why is his back to the audience? At any rate, there's still something about Orson in the OA that gives off vibes of a character that broods.
Tana: No! The OA made her ugly! NOOOO!!!!
Innes: Something about him is a little too prideful in the OA, but that's okay since he still looks pretty good.
Gerik: The sword he's holding killed the OA for me. But still, I got a sense of Gerik's strength.
Marisa: Oh, man. Those eyes are humonguous! Otherwise, though, she looks pretty good. Who would've thought there was a veil on her ass?
Dozla: Definitely looks like a brute here. (I always thought Dozla was a brute. ) If only his chest plate was a little different...
Cormag: Absolutely BADASS. I'll leave it at that.
Rennac: Also a rather prideful OA, but I thought the keys dangling at the end of his finger was a nice touch.
Duessel: Not bad. If only the horse didnt' take up the center of the OA.
Knoll: Still too many robes, in my opinion. Seriously.
Syrene: She's a hot chick! What can I say?

Haha, sorry about that. If I ever need to post news, I always post it short so to avoid things like this XD

Anyway, now that I have some time to comment...

First of all, I'm impressed that they actually did release the OA. I was actually expecting some kind of cheap filler once they updated with the FE8 section.

In your previous topic you mentioned the enemy characters. FEW usually updates with the enemy/NPC characters ~1 month later. I'm assuming they'll do the same for this game (since Valter's OA is known to exist at least).

Also, it looks like they were kind of lazy with the updating. Some of the images' alternate texts are from FE7. On a similar note, pages 7 and 8 are actually up, but they're identical to the equivalent FE7 pages (and they have no images).

(Heh, I was planning to make this topic after I got back from class. Guess I was too slow. )

Man, I didn't think they'd ever release art for more characters. :O Though the romanizations for some of the characters are rather odd. Seriously, Coma? Xyst (I automatically think of that as "cyst" )? Turner? And oh, so many jokes that can be made about Artur's... Still, the art looks pretty good overall IMO.

The names were mostly taken directly from the internal names (including all the aforementioned names). I think they're only weird because we're used to using other names ^^;;;

Ah, good to see these up. I had more or less regarded the previous rumors of FE8 OA with pure skepticism, but it's good to see I was proven wrong.

Now, to examine, I think the one thing to note is that it's obvious at looking at them that there are differences in terms of quality of the images; Surprisingly enough, the ones for the previously unseen characters are brighter and more detailed then the previously released ones. Makes me think they got some other team to do them.

Are you daft? The previously released art is definitely of higher quality than the unreleased ones.

I think what you may be referring to is because the internal art was of lower resolution than the officially released ones, so some issues with interpolation happened upon resizing.

Also, ITT fanartists perceptions being shattered after finally being able to see the lower majority of characters

No, I meant exactly what I said. The only 3 who are on par with the new ones are Eirika, Ephraim, and Myrrh, but only so much. They certainly are not cleaner than the new ones, at any rate.

Okay, Dale, I'm calling you out!  I really want to hear what you have to say now that they've delivered!

Seriously, though, the fact that I hit the nail on the head over this very possibility has made my day.  My only concern was the timing (especially with the unwarranted drool over pointed ears  ), but apparently, Japan's pranks aren't saved for April 1...

Initial reactions to certain art:

Franz: Hey, buddy!  Where do you think you're going with those swords!?
Neimi: Hey, wearing capris with your tunic is cheating!  Oh well, at least the sad, soulful eyes are spot-on.
Artur: If he and Rhys switched jobs (and with it games), would anyone notice?
Lute: Babydolls FTW!  (Though, actually seeing it after expecting it is a little spooky... )
Orson: A fine example of fully capturing someone's character in one portrait.
Tana:  She's MINE, damn it!
Gerik: The sword looks badass, but what's with the pose?  I'd bet if someone used this pose for a nude sculpture, it could pass for classical art.
Marisa: She looks like a goth in that OA!  Her dress would be uninspired if not for the veil.
Dozla: Bodyguard of the Roaming Gnome, perhaps?
Knoll: Did he get his robe from the same tailor as Zelda?
Syrene: "I'm sorry, my secretary's not in at the moment.  She's practicing her pegasus riding."

Now, let's see if the hardcore cosplayers take notice...

I like a lot of the unreleased drawings. Tana in particular is notable because she doesn't wear the usual armor that the rest of the pegasus riders have been wearing throughout the series.

Hmm good... I was hoping they had art for the rest of the characters. I found it odd they didn't (despite FE8 being a quickly made game), so this is good.

Damn, you Vincent. If I weren't up all night playing Mabinogi, I would've beaten you to the update. *shot*

So they ended up using the internal names after all, letter-for-letter (except the few that didn't match). Ice Dragon is content.

I can say FE8 has some of my favorite official arts ever (beating the awesomeness of FE10's arts is quite an accomplishment). Absolutely gorgeous. I believe this is what one calls "fashionably late".

Coma: The cape is amazing.
Olsson: Equally amazing, only in a different way.
Heanius: He's very pretty.
Cugar: Badass. So totally badass.
Dussel: That horse is my new hero. ^^ (And now we know what those horns on the Greatknight sprite are...)

Vanessa: So much better than her face sprite.
Turner: So. Cute. Oh. My. Effing. God.
Marica: I think everyone's already mentioned the sheer sash.
Syrene: Such pretty hair. And black looks amazing on her.

Come to think of it, all of the girls have such pretty hair.

I hope they provide arts for all the Free Map unlockables in the next update (I want to see Lyon and Celina). The legendary weapons, too, though they haven't done those recently so I think I'll have to deal with that disappointment.

I've heard Xyst and Coma before, actually.
They should've kept his name "Cougar" or "Cugar" instead of Cormag, because it suits him more especially looking at that art.

I'd say I personally disagree, but then again, I'm the only one in the universe who doesn't really like him as a unit or a character, so my opinion might not count...

The official JP names were in FESS4's Information topic (taken from the internal names, of course): here.

Also, those were the names I tended to use (with the exception of Tana and Cougar).

*Can't wait to see them use "Cethelreda" (Caellach) in the enemies update*

Well, I have the response saved anyway (just- I somehow failed to copy it and then I deleted my post, but luckily it was still in my cache) ^^

Unlike FE9, the artworks don't exist on the disk to begin with. They could be added with downloadable content, I suppose, but I don't really see the point (for IS, NOA or whoever).

That's one of many reasons I stopped playing MMORPGs *shot*
