I just got like 4 knights crests... they promote people right? o_o; Do they only promote knights and horseback riders like they do in the GBA games or could I use them for anyone? Are they the only promotion items?
And what do I do when weapons break? They just sit there in my inventory...
Sorry for asking so many questions. FE5 is much different from the other games. ^__^;

Knight Crests or Knight proofs are the only promotion item in FE5. You would use them to promote Myrms> SMs or Archer>Sniper, etc. Broken weapons can either be sold to the shops for some cash (which is what I would reccomend unless it's an actual worthwhile weapon) or can be fixed to full use by Saphy's repair staff. Too bad it only has 5 uses.

Too bad it only has 5 uses. I personally think that's more than enough uses. In fact, I don't recall ever using it more than twice a playthrough...

Also note that while you can fight ( poorly ) with broken weapons, broken books don't do anything.
2 of your units won't promote with your Knight Crests: Leaf ( who promotes at the end of chapter 18 ) and Linoan ( who promotes at the church in chapter 21 ).

Yeah, that is if you are going to be able to get Xavier in Chapter 18, but broken equipment can be sold for 100 gold.

(Neofox)Stick with playing brawl. It's a real mans game, where you play a princess fighting a pink balloon in the land of mushrooms (camusthedarkknight)I return to the shadows from whence I came...

Um... What? What does Xavier have to do with the repair staff? EDIT: Oh wait, I see what you mean... Use it on long-range tomes to kill the units you don't want left alive more easily so that the villagers can talk to the enemy units with portraits. That way the converted enemies won't die from the ones that can't be turned into NPCs.

Thief Staff. That way the disarmed units won't kill each other as they turn green, capture the civilians, or suicide themselves on your units.

I'm sure it doesn't matter if the green units die though, which they most likely will since they'll try to leave the map as opposed to attacking. I recall getting my member card with green units dead (and Xavier with capturing/releasing the units you're not supposed to kill... or was it the other way around? Who cares, I got them both)

Linoan ( who promotes at the church in chapter 21 ).
Yes she can promote there, but I think she can still use a Knight Crest if you try. Could be wrong though; are you sure? I thought Safy's staff had 10 uses, btw...
I thought it was 3... definately not 10... and 5 seems farfetched. Yeah, that is if you are going to be able to get Xavier in Chapter 18, but broken equipment can be sold for 100 gold.
You don't need to be using broken equipment to get Xavier. Strategies involving Dasin or other 'tanks' are quite preferred (i.e. they don't have a weapon); broken weapons tend to weigh every person using them down (except of course; the tanks).

Yes she can promote there, but I think she can still use a Knight Crest if you try. Could be wrong though; are you sure? It won't work. Unless you meant using a Knight Crest after Chapter 21, but I seem to recall trying that once and that didn't work either.
