Maybe it's just because I'm left-handed, but I like the fact that in FE8 certain characters share my hand preference. I also couldn't help but notice that Sothe's official art in PoR and RD and his trophy in SSBB depict him holding a dagger in his left hand, even though his battle animations are as right-handed as anybody else's.

I guess I'm curious if hand preference makes any difference to other people, or if they would have liked to see it brought up in Support conversations in FE9 the way it was in FE8.

... Intelligent Systems/Nintendo could take it a step further and develop laterality (the method of a person using a certain hand) into a game feature.  For example, a right-handed person holding a weapon in his left hand would suffer a penalty to hit and critical rates.

With the Fire Emblem franchise having gone 3D with FE9 and FE10, as well as the DS being capable of rendering 3D graphics, I am positive that this feature can be implemented.

==I'm ambidextrous, but if offered the choice in games I'll usually pick right-handedness.

Both of them seem fine with me, though.

Wouldn't you want to put it on their dominant hand in that case, making the feature somewhat useless...?

Of course, they could do something like arm fatigue or something to that extent.  But many weapons in FE are held in two hands (except in the case of Ike, Swordmasters, and Mounts).

Depends if the weapon can give some bonus for not using it on the dominant hand, or if eventually the character can upgrade his both arms for the weapons switch.

For example, an unit that his main use is for defensive purposes, you would think it's more appropriate to put the shield on their dominant hand.

I'm personally against the idea of equipping weapons to specific hands... Especially since I don't like the idea of having to micromanage each and every single unit's inventory like they were a party member in a traditional RPG.

I agree with NeoFox (finally!), it would just be an annoying little extra detail to deal with. What would be cool is seeing characters fight with their dominant hand in-game, if just to add a little bit of "character depth"...

Yeah, I agree that that would be cool. (I kind of wish they had done it with Sothe, for example, and it can't be that hard to just mirror the character's model considering what they did to everything in the Wii version of Zelda Twilight Princess, for example...)

That said, maybe some of the official art is wrong. I noticed that Gilliam's official art depicts him holding his spear in his right hand, even though his B-Support with Garcia reveals that he is left-handed.

^ I'm right-handed, but my left arm is stronger, so that is my sword-arm. It could be something like that.
