I guess I should have been more clear though, as my point was that using anima wasn't a "much much more important" advantage like you made it out to be. FE8's easiness doesn't really have much to do with it since even in FE6 spellcasters would blow away enemies regardless of what kind of magic they were using. Doesn't change the fact there is a magic type better than the other

Realistically, when all 3 magic types tear through enemies with ease, nobody is going to care which is the best.

Enemy phase. Even though enemies are generally suck, weapon disadvantage can still be dangerous, especially when fighting monsters that use dark magic.

He's trying to argue that Anima is the best magic type, not Light. And since I know what he's going to say, I'm going to point out that it's only a difference of ~10% accuracy and 1 point of might.

And the higher weight that light tomes have which actually makes a difference due to magic users having generally low Con except Moulder or something. A Thunder tome has just as much weight as Lightning and does about 3-4 more damage IIRC.

Doesn't matter. Even with the weight penalty, your units are still going to reliably double all enemies with relative ease.

You're probably just having bad luck. In terms of stat and benefits, Moulder really can't go wrong regardless of which promotion he chooses.

Light magic is the best in this game because of the bishop skill, slayer, seeing as about half the enemies you encounter will be monsters.
On the topic though, Has anyone ever turned L'arachel into a Valkyrie?(Which must be the MOST overlooked class in this game) I always made her a mage knight because Valkyrie's lack the slayer skill. then again, i only bothered to level her up once....

Light magic _doesn't_ have the Slayer skill. The Bishop class does. All Light magic has is WTA over a couple of Monsters.

But that doesn't automatically make Light Magic the best.

....did you read my post at all? I said that in my opinion it makes light magic the best, because a majority of the light magic users are bishops. And then since most of the enemies are monsters, it means that your 3 bishops can slice through the ruins like butter.
Thats why i think its best

I actually think most characters could go either way...besides Gilliam (General), Colm (Rogue), Joshua (SM), Gerik (Hero), and maybe Neimi (Ranger).
Oh, and Knoll, since he can't survive as anything but a summoner xP

I'd disagree there. As I outlined, Gilliam should be a Great Knight. He gets full weapon triangle anyway, but 1 mov > slightly better stats and Big Shield imo.
I've actually been pondering about Colm. I found his Str so crappy that he does indeed need a crit with that Killing Edge to actually hurt anything, and Silencer will make that a kill half the time. He works either way.
Ranger/Hero for Gerik is entirely personal preference. Bow + Horse vs Axes is not lopsided towards Axes at all.
Neimi is indeed undisuptable.
Knoll is horribly frail either way. It's just that he gets Summons with one route. Which suck anyway.

I like Lute as either a Mage Knight or a Sage. Sure, it's a guaranteed 5 drop in power to make her a Mage Knight, but (1) I think she looks cooler as a MK due to her pallette, (2) 25 magic isn't that bad against monsters with no magic defense... plus she has a crit rate! (3) Generally more movement on horse (4) more constitution.
I honestly think that Lute kills as a sage, mage knight, she's ok.
