I just looked through the official arts of the characters, and I decided on my new favorite character: Pelleas.  He's really pretty (o_o) and I love dark magic users, but I looked at Serenes Forest and it says that he isn't playable until the last 3 chapters or something. He's one of the main reasons I want to buy the game, but could I even use him for most of it? |

He's second playthrough and onwards only if you decide not to kill him near the end of Part 3, and you're forced to use him in Part 4 Chapter 2.

Yeah... Pelleas isn't very active for most of the game. You can't use him at all on your first playthrough, and he only fights in Part 4, chapter 2, 5, and Final on your subsequent playthroughs. (That's technically seven chapters, but they are very late in the game.)
In short, if Pelleas is your only reason for wanting to play this game, you probably shouldn't bother.
Oops. My mistake. You said one of the main reasons, not the only reason... Well, I'll leave it up to you whether you should bother or not.

Wait so you pretty much can't play him at all for the first playthrough (only 7 chapters), but you could play him more in your other playthroughs?
And yeah... he's not the only reason I'm not getting the game. ^___^;

You get him for zero chapters on your first playthrough. On your second playthrough and onwards, he's available for at most seven chapters (Chapters 4-2, 4-5, and 4-F-1~4-F-5), and is forced to participate in one of those seven.
There's also the novelty of him being the only Dark magic user until 4-F-5 when you get your second (and, again, available only second playthrough onwards).

- 2nd playthrough or higher
- Chose not to (woups forgot, big big spoiler, sakura, don't look)

And just to clarify what we mean by "second playthrough", since I've read of at least one complaint about it...
Upon completing your first playthrough, you will get "Clear Data". Be sure to load this when you begin your second playthrough. If you don't, it will be just like your first playthrough.
It's premature, but I don't know how long it will take you to beat the game, so keep this in mind when you do.
