Suggestions for a Bizzaro Playthrough

Title says it all~

I've played RD to death since I've gotten it, and frankly, using my standard set of characters (Sothe, Soren, Nephy, etc.) is getting absurdly boring. Are there any suggestions as to which characters would be considered "strange" or "flamed" for me to use in my next playthrough? Outwardly hated characters with horrible bases (I call them Rhysophytes) and odd weapon choices are especially lokked for. Oh, and before I forget, Mist is guaranteed a slot, and Ilyana is out, out, OUT.

Also, do keep in mind that this will be a JP Hard mode play, and that I do actually want to beat the game.

I suggest using the hardly used characters(IMO/AFAIK), like Meg and Fiona. Their stats make them prime suspects to enemies, especially in Hard Mode. Astrid is eaten up to hell when she joins, as she can barely do anything, even with Paragon. Dunno what you think about Tormod/Vika/Muarim; the former two may be live bait for Part IV if they're too weak. Use Leanne for a constant 2 units targeted by her galdr, or just keep Reyson untransformed.

But, I don't really know what defines "beatable" in your eyes, so...

Use Oliver,Danved,Malakov,Brom,Lyre. They are not the best but are probably still usuable on JP hard mode(can you can switch Astrid and Geoffreys paragon to Danved and Malakov?) however Lyre might need some of the stat ups.

For odd weapon combos, you could have Brom use swords, Oliver have the dragon slayer skill and a blessed nosferatu tome solo the dragons chapter with him.

Erm, aside from Oliver, all those characters are pretty good. They just start at a lower level compared to your other options (Makalov in particular being notably good, he just suffers from having to compete with the swordmasters for the SS-rank swords). Lyre is also pretty good on her own because she caps her skill and speed very quickly, which makes it easier to use BEXP to help her other stats. She shouldn't need any boosters, especially since she has the skill and speed to activate her mastery skill as well as ones like Adept with ease (although I'll admit she does have the benefit of getting +4 from non-HP/luck stat boosters due to how laguz work...).

Hate to kill you guys, but I regularily use Brom, Lyre and Makalov. Never thought about Oliver though.

Yeah, units like Lyre and Makalov tend to get a lot of hate just because other units come with better base stats at the same time they do (and Lyre suffers from the usual laguz hate). Most don't realize they have some pretty strong growths to make up for taking a bit more effort to raise.

I used Oliver once, myself... my first playthrough, in fact. He capped his strength and defense. It was epic.

I've used both Oliver and Vika, and they both turned out fine - Vika capped everything except for HP.  (Paragon helped).

Suggestions: Meg, Fiona, Astrid.  For a lot of people, nonroyal laguz would be interesting.  Mia or Lucia instead of Edward or Zihark?

I used Meg once on a normal-mode playthrough and she capped everything. It was quite awesome.

Why not try using a few laguz, maybe Volug or Mordecai?

Do something fun like I do, use only people with a certain hair color. Not really hard per-say, but it's fun. Same goes for only one affinity type, etc. (My HHM FE7 Dark Affinity run was awesome).

The beorc are of a varying hair color, though. If I were to choose Orange, Grey or Silver, I would get tons of laguz on my final roster as well. An affinity playthrough sounds nice, though Wind and Heaven own the stage.

Erm, I'm pretty sure Danved, Aran, Kyza, and Muarim are pretty good. Danved especially due to fairly good availability and being the only one aside from Geoffrey and Marcia who can reliably double in the missions with the paladins (and anything Danved can't double won't be getting doubled by Geoffrey, either... though Marcia might still be able to). The rest are fairly difficult to use, but still potential options.

You have Volug pretty early and he's damn good in Part 3 if you actually use him.  In addition, as a laguz, it's not as much of a waste to give him a level or so of BEXP as it is to give that to a non-capped beorc.  Meg comes early enough to be usable, she's just not as good as Gatrie imo, and Fiona isn't around a lot, but a customized iron and steel lance go a long way with her.  In addition, Astrid gets infinite experience in her chapters if you don't take away Paragon later.
