Today, I was playing through Book 2 and arrived at chapter 11, against the Berzerker with the Master Sword. So  I sent Marth to lure him thinking he'd had no chance of getting crit'd. The Berzerker advances and attacks, he lands a critical.

Isn't the Fire Emblem supposed to negate criticals or did I miss something?

Do you have a savestate of that chapter, or a screenshot?

I'm pretty sure the Emblem reduces criticals at the very least. I don't actually remember how I tested it though, so I might have done something wrong.

No. I'll make some tests as soon as I reach an enemy with high critical.

I just edited the berserker in to chapter 1 and sent Marth against him, but apparently until you unlock the emblem event, the emblem doesn't do anything (not because it wasn't negating the critical, but it didn't even show up in battle). So I await this info.

yeah, yeah, necropost. I'm sorry, I think new topic is not needed, blah, blah, blah.

Book 2. Chapter 16. Here goes the statistical part:

Critical should be 14 (32-18). And it is the one displayed in battle:

Seems like the FE doesn't reduce critical rate.

First round was boring. Then in my turn I attacked the guy with Marth's thunder sword.

I wonder if the sniper was angered, however, there's no time for pondering such questions, as the Sniper landed a Critical hit!

(I attached a savestate of the chapter to the post, in case you wanna test.)

Given the activity of the FE3 board i'll keep this open but next time get a staff member to say yes to the necropost.

I have not looked at the attached savestate but it will have to be at the start of the battle if the critical hit is to be seen. FE3s RNG is dependant on the frame you enter battle in. In other words its actually random* but is rather than going through a table of fixed numbers.

*-well actually, not random (true random is difficult, maybe impossible to achieve) but more the input (i.e. the player) being the random factor than the table of fixed numbers....

Didn't know about that but it isn't an issue.

The savestate is from the turn before I started fighting the sniper. However, he and the bishops near the throne are the only remaining enemies. Lure the sniper out of the Bishops' range (2 of them have worm, boss has meteor) then surround him with 4 units and have him attack Marth until a critical is seen.

Which version of ZSNES did you use to make the savestate?

Also, I realised what mistake I made. I was testing when Marth had the Light Orb on him >___<

Thanks.

I checked around myself, with some random saves, and got Marth criticalled by a 6% chance, so something was definitely up.

Anyway, I finally got him criticalled with a 1% chance, so I've removed the critical-negating reference for now. I'm pretty sure I haven't messed up anything this time, but you never know >___<
