Sorry if this topic is too offensive or anything (even though it shouldn't be), but I always wondered if Ike was homosexual.  The Fire Emblem series has always blurred the lines a lot between the characters and their sexuality/love interests, but they are still there...  Unlike the other main male lords, Ike has no strong female relationships/supports outside of Elincia, who he even said himself is only a sister/friend to him.

He also has no endings with any female characters.  However, he does have endings with Ranulf and Soren...

Ranulf and Soren's endings with Ike don't imply anything, though. And Ike's conversation with Soren at the end of FE10... Well, since when does getting hugged by your best friend mean anything special?

Honestly, it's a debate that has never reached a conclusive result. It's definetly ambiguous, but really hard to prove either way. Especially since people like to act like it's impossible for people to be friends without it being sexual.

Exactly.

It's just the rabid fangirls that overexaggerate about a point like that to fit their desires. I read that conversation and was all "Hey, he's being hugged by his friend. How nice."

also I slipped up a while ago and now people think I'm gay lol

Talking seriously now;
FE10 spoilers; it happens near the end of the game after somewhat ambiguous unlocking requirements.

Take from that what you will.  You think Ike is gay?  Good for you.  You think Ike is straight?  Cool.  You think Ike just simply doesn't have interesting?  Also good for you.

Personally, I don't think he is gay like the rapid fangirls say, but that's what I take from it.

Some of those who think Ike is gay also seem to enjoy wapanese Yaoi or however you spell it.  Gee, I wonder what they're trying to connect in their heads...

Personally I don't attribute anything to it anymore than I would of Ike hugging random girl #2.  It seems that because gay may not be a completely normal viewpoint to some, it's hard to see casual contact between same-sex as anything but gay.

If you ship Ike/Soren, you're welcome to read that conversation in a romantic light.

If you don't ship Ike/Soren, you're welcome to read that platonically.

Ike doesn't have any canon romances.  Strictly speaking, he's asexual.  If someone sees him as something else, that's fine by me.

Unless you know the future and past about the character, you can't really say that.  There's no evidence for him being so other than the chances you saw, he made no move with anyone.  That's hardly enough evidence to on claiming he a dud.

If you want to think purely through context, then it would seem he has no drive at the time.  Perhaps he's fine without sex.  Not to mention getting caught up in wars...

It is kind of hard to discuss Ike's sexuality, I think, since he is so much more a fighter than a lover.

He is certainly close friends with Soren at the very least, and I think that he (like Mist) sees Titania as a surrogate mother. He never sees Lethe as more than a sparring partner and a comrade, although on the other hand she IS Laguz and, being more a fighter than a lover herself, she's a good match for Ike...

Aimee freaks him out, of course, but I think most men would be freaked out by a woman like her... I'm pretty sure that he's friends with Elincia, too, since he saw the need to defend her against Sanaki... rather passionately, as Sanaki herself pointed out.

Anyway, throughout PoR and RD, Ike ends up having more sparring partners than romantic partners, so maybe it'd be better to discuss the former than the latter.

Ike could be anything orientation-wise. Anything. It's all up to the person. This fangirl sees him as bisexual.

Why do I feel like every time people talk about Yaoi fangirls/boys (yes, there are boys), they are demeaning them? u___u

ANYWAYS...Personally, I don't care if Ike is asexual, heterosexual, bisexual, or homosexual...because, REGARDLESS OF FACTS AND OPINIONS, he could work with ANY.  So that's my thought on it. ;

Be...cause they usually are.

That said, I'd lol heartily if Ike was gay. But it's really irrelevant.

He just seems to be one of those characters that focuses more on avenging his father and fighting then romance. I never thought of him as gay

Ike's always been interested in what Oscar's cookin'...

It's not like gay characters are too out there for Fire Emblem anyways. I mean, there was definitely something going on between Raven and Lucius, and they're almost the same archetype as Ike and Soren. Plus Marth? He wore a skirt and a tiara, and I don't care if his sister gave it to him. And as far as risqué relationships go, look no farther than the obviously implied incestuous relationship between Ephraim and Erika, who were no less the lords of the game (not just minor characters).

So it would definitely not be outrageous and unprecedented for Ike to be gay, but I don't really think there's enough evidence in the game to actually jump to that conclusion. Unless you count his semi-flitty voice in Radiant Dawn, some of his flamboyant hand gestures, and the general phallic shape of Ragnell (sure, you just keep telling yourself he HAD to use it).

Does anyone here know if any script was changed or omitted from the Japanese version? Could there be any stronger evidence there?

The Japanese text was just as open to interpretation as the American one, iirc.

Like what a few others have said, Ike just comes off more as a fighter rather a lover. If I had to define his sexuality I'd probably go with asexual like a few others said. Ike simply just doesn't have much sexual drive. And well when your trained to be fighter and eventually a leader of a mercenary company it makes a little sense wouldn't you think?

On one hand, it does make sense, but on the other hand, this also applies to Greil, and Greil wasn't too busy or too focused on fighting to get Elena pregnant twice.

Ike is strong. Roy may have been clueless with girls, but Ike sees everyone as the same, a fellow warrior. He has strong friendships, and said friendships can be with males or females. It just doesn't seem like he's interested in a tender romantic relationship, even though there can be tender moments.

With Greil... well, perhaps it took Greil a bit longer for his hormones to catch up with his over-developed need to aggress, and that trait was passed down to Ike?

I read that spoiler of the in-game conversation. I was so disappointed that this meant my FFQ challenge fic "First Snow" had completely no chance of hitting the truth (whereas before that chance was miniscule)

I'd say he is straight as he has a one track mind, just focuses on one thing, doesn't let it go until that it is done.

1. He forgets about Elincia's relationship after POR.

2.He doesn't really have much of a sense of humor either, as with the conversaiton with Janaff (From another topic) proves that. To me he doesn't really care about anything else other than to avenge his father.

I never found Ike as being gay. Maybe it's the fact that the thought hardly crosses my mind, but I just see Ike more as a person that would rather get the job done before thinking about relationships.

Soren seems to be more of the gay person to me. He hates everyone except Ike.
