I'm on my first play through of this game, and I'm just about to finish chapter 8x.
I would like to know which route (Lalum or Elphins) is considered to give you better characters/ easier chapters etc. I know that 2 of the characters you get are different depending on the route, and that in one of them Gonzales is supposed to be godly, and in the other route he's not.
Also, i don't really know how to choose which route to take.
Another question, which knight is the best to use? Wendy seems under leveled, my Bors is...terrible, and Barth...well, I'm using him right now, but I'm not sure about them, they all seem kinda bad.

Lalum has Gonzales of course, but also has Echnidna who is much better than Bartre is. I'd go with Lalum.
The Armor Knights in this game are all pretty mediocre, so I wouldn't bother with any of them.

Lalum's route is also a bit more difficult if I'm not mistaken.
Regarding the Armor Knights, if Bors and Barth are giving you trouble, then I'd just give up. Wendy doesn't have much going for her outside of novelty and Douglas is just another throwaway pre-promote.

The routes are chosen by which of the two upper houses you visit: the left gives you Lalum's route, right being Elphin. I found Lalum's second chapter to be much harder than Elphin's chapters combined.  You do get better units dealing with that route, however, as others stated. |

If you visit neither, I think that you'll just be sent to Lalum's route.

Only thing I can add about Lalum is that she has better supports than Elphin.
If you rly want an armor...well, Douglas can carry Roy and walk his way through Sacae while tanking in a manly way, if that means something to you >_>. That's probably the most usefulness you are getting from a general in this game

Barth isn't terrible, but none of them really shine in this way the way Amelia does, for instance.

All FE6 Armors are terrible beyond belief. Well, you can make them work, but there's simply no real reason to use them.
I personally found Elphin's first chapter harder than Lalum's second, but that's personal I guess.

I usually go to Lalum's route just to recruit Echidna. I do find Elphin's route really difficult
