I think it's about time we took a crack at this. Basically, as far as I know, there is no complete set of formulae for calculation battle experience for this game. All (or most) of the other games have some, so why leave out this game? ^^;;;

However, there's no way I can work out the formulae myself, since I haven't played the game... and thus I need some helpers.

To start with, I'd like to know how much experience you get from:

* Damaging but not killing an enemy (Level 1 vs Level 1, both Tier 1 classes, eg. Myrmidon)
* Killing an enemy (Level 1 vs Level 1, both Tier 1 classes)

For all three modes, no Blossom, no Elite, enemy isn't a boss nor Thief-type character.

Thanks in advance : o

Are the enemies in the first chapter even level 1?

I don't know from the top of my head, but if not, the next best thing is Level 4 vs Level 4 or any other instance where the Levels are the same. The actual Levels don't matter too much just yet.

I should have mentioned that, but I was kind of in a hurry ^^;;;

Thanks ID : )

Okay, I think I've got the basics of JP Hard nailed down, as well as JP Maniac. Correct me if I'm wrong:

Exp from damaging = (21 + [enemy's Level - Level]) / 2
Exp from defeating = Exp from damage + [enemy's Level - Level] + Mode bonus

Mode bonus = 15 for JP Hard and JP Maniac
JP Maniac just subtracts 5 Exp from the final JP Hard values (i.e 11 - 5 = 6 and 28 - 5 = 23)

However I'm not too sure about JP Normal though. Could I have a few more values from there? ^^;;;

Also you (or anyone else) can feel free to record Exp from killing Thieves, Bosses or higher Tier/Laguz units.

Here are some US Normal mode stats. Interestingly enough, US Normal uses the same formulae as JP Hard.

Lv. 1 Micaiah v. Lv. 1 Bandit (damage): 10 Exp.
Lv. 1 Micaiah v. Lv. 1 Bandit (kill): 25 Exp.
Lv. 1 Micaiah v. Lv. 2 Bandit (damage): 11 Exp.
Lv. 1 Micaiah v. Lv. 2 Bandit (kill): 27 Exp.
Lv. 4 Eddie v. Lv. 1 Bandit (damage): 9 Exp.
Lv. 4 Eddie v. Lv. 1 Bandit (kill): 21 Exp.

Lv. 4 Eddie v. Lv. 5 Boss (damage): 11 Exp
Lv. 2 Micaiah v. Lv. 5 Boss (kill) 70 Exp

Thanks ^^

So the boss bonus is likely 40. At least for NA Normal. I know the boss bonus varied depending on mode in FE9 (although only between Easy and Normal/Hard/Maniac).

That'd be because they're the same mode. I'll get some more samples in a bit.

JP Normal:
Lv. 1 Eddie v. Lv. 3 Pugo (damage): 20 Exp.
Lv. 2 Eddie v. Lv. 3 Pugo (damage): 20 Exp.
Lv. 1 Micaiah v. Lv. 3 Pugo (kill): 100 Exp. (che...)
Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 1 Soldier (damage): 15 Exp.
Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 1 Soldier (kill): 35 Exp.
Lv. 3 Micaiah v. Lv. 1 Fighter (kill): 44 Exp.
Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 7 Isaiah (damage): 18 Exp.
Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 7 Isaiah (kill): 100 Exp. (che...)
Lv. 1* Sothe v. Lv. 2 Soldier (kill): 14 Exp.
Lv. 1* Sothe v. Lv. 3 Soldier (kill): 15 Exp.
Lv. 1* Sothe v. Lv. 8 Zaitan (damage): 13 Exp.
Lv. 1* Sothe v. Lv. 8 Zaitan (kill): 83 Exp.

Hopefully, with Sothe's data, you can get the Boss mod since everyone else's data is useless for that.

Thanks again ^^

Hmm, JP Normal kills sure give a lot of exp... Anyway it looks like JP Normal has +9 damage exp compared to JP Hard. Still no clue about the killing exp.

Assuming the above is right, Tier 2 classes count as Level +20, which is expected from FE9.

I'll need to figure out how JP Normal's killing exp is calculated, before figuring out the boss mod from Sothe. I'll probably come back to it soon (since I'm in a hurry), unless you (or someone else) post some more values before that.

EDIT

Ah, kind of stuck. I think I've determined the Mode bonus for JP Normal to be +28 (at least for Tier 1 characters) It doesn't look like a nice number though : /

Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 1 Soldier (damage): 15 Exp.
Lv. 9 Noyce v. Lv. 1 Soldier (kill): 35 Exp.

(21 + 1 - 9)/2 + 9 = 15 (rounded down)
15 + 1 - 9 + 28 = 35

Boss bonus doesn't seem to be so easy to work out.

Pugo:

20 exp from damage
20 + 3 - 1 + 28 + X = >100
X = >50

Isaiah:

18 exp from damage
18 + 7 - 9 + 28 + X = >100
X = >56

However Sothe complicates things. I can't figure out his killing exp- using the previous formulae, his killing exp comes out as 10 and 11 instead of 14 and 15. Even assuming a Mode bonus of +32 to rectifiy this, it doesn't give an universal boss mod (unless there isn't one).

13 exp from damage
13 + 8 - 21 + 32 + X = 83
X = 51... Still =/= 56
