This was just something I was thinking about earlier, myself. I haven't played any Fire Emblem games in over two years except for a brief interlude checking out the Wii game on a friend's console, but even so I'm still interested in Fire Emblem-related news, and awkwardly barge into conversations whenever I hear those two words mentioned.

In the end, I think that the Fire Emblem series' greatest strength lies in its plots. Though each game doesn't have volumes of backstory written about it, the smidgens of plot and history that are fed to the player are always immediately or near-immediately relevant to the action at hand, and each character and level occupies a niche within the overall story, rather than being relatively extraneous. The story behind everything in the games makes every part of them more memorable than anything I've seen in other tactics games: I could more or less describe every level I've played in a Fire Emblem game from memory, even if I might not get every name right, whereas except for a handful of levels I barely remember anything about my entire experience with Advance Wars. The high quality of the level design, the quality of the storywriting, and even the structure of the games is not unique. All of that can be found a thousand places elsewhere now. But the melding of story and gameplay is unique to Fire Emblem.

Though of course I might be totally misinterpreting the swampy images in the back of my mind. What do you guys think Fire Emblem's claim to fame is?

Isn't this more or less the same as what my topic is about?

Now that you mention it, yes, it is.

I just wanted to create an interesting topic, since excluding one topic there had been no posts on this board yesterday. I somehow didn't notice yours until now.

Sorry about that.
