Actually you face loads of Mamkutes with better stats than that on H1 Final. One of them doubled my General too. Granted that's at the end of the game. And you have Chiki or Nagi by then, and they effectively OHKO any Dragon, and come close to that on Medeus (Nagi did 47, with only one level up).
EDIT: Something I've noticed, I think the Fire Emblem actually increases Marth's power. He has three more than he should (as in just weapon + strength), two of which comes from his A rank in Swords. C and B ranks both give +1 as well. This doesn't affect staves though.
EDIT2: Kinda pointless, but the music for the arena is FE9's attack music from the first half, the online mode's music is FE5's 'escape' map music and if you sit around in the arena lobby it plays part of FE8's Chapter 5x music. And they also made Medeus' battle theme pretty freaky.

Playing for rank is no more 'artificial' than choosing a high difficulty in the beginning. If the player adjusting the experience in order to create a harder environment is hardly artificial, than it is also perfectly acceptable to say a game is hard if the player removes skills, weapons, and stats from their team, in order to further abide by preset rules...? Last I checked, if one were to adjust the playing experience by removing Shooting Star from Ayra, it wouldn't fall under any common difficulties, as the challenge is from the player, not the game. But this is just arguing into the semantics behind 'difficulty'

First time I went into the online shop, and I already found an Elysian Whip I guess I was lucky--too bad I didn't see any Heroes weapons lying around Enemies in Hard 5 starts to have them later on in the game They don't drop them either Bosses don't get too much of a boost. Though sometimes not much is enough: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee61/thief_fighter/Garneff.jpg

In the chapter where you get Midia, there's this faced Paladin. I believe he's not in FE3 Book 1... so how do I get him, again?

The reason you didn't see him in Book I is because, if memory serves, that chapter was one of the things removed in the Super Famicom remake

Actually, that chapter was still in FE3.
They also changed Holstat's (Chapter 16 boss) name to Holsard, for some reason. His internal name is still Holstatte though :S

I passed it ages ago, but I have a hunch Camus will give you the Gladius if you clear the chapter without killing him, as there's space in the event viewer for another ending scene. Could someone check this?

Actually, that chapter was still in FE3. Was it any different? I don't remember running through there last time I played >.> Obviously the Shooters are gone, but what exactly was dropped in?

How does Ohm Staff work? Can it revive anyone? I have Maria trying to use it to bring back Jeigan whom I threw away in the Prologue, but I don't have the command for it.

If you mean you sacrificed him: You cannot revive the prologue sacrifice, they are gone. If you mean he just regularly died: Does she have an A rank in staves? I believe it still has to be used in the appropriate chapter (24 I think), but it doesn't have to be at the alter anymore. If she does have an A and is on Chapter 24, perhaps they didn't include her in the 'Princesses' category since she is younger than Minerva, or something.

As in Rebecca. <+Blacky Wacky> OK, and who's still clinging vainly to the idea that Square isn't just a yellow man's EA?

Well, I suppose I met neither requirement. ^^; Yes, he was a sacrifice, so I guess it wouldn't work just from that. And I'm on Final, not 24, so it won't work anyway? Oh, well. I just wanted the novelty of having everyone alive aside from all of the sidequest ones. :S so it's not like I was going to use him.

You don't get the Gladius if you don't defeat Camus. The conversation at the end of the chpater changes a bit depending on if you defeat Camus or not. I can't read it so all I know is the text is a bit different. I'm not sure if the text viewer shows both variations.

Longbows are surprisingly effective against Medeus, and his defence is the same there as in H1, so... Then again, getting to him is the problem. Since my Marth was useless, I weakened Medeus with my Sniper and finished him with a 47 damage attack from Nagi. Now that was cheap. Actually dragons in that chapter are hardly stronger. Medeus only really has more speed.
Oh, and it really helps to have at least two Thunderbolt uses left for the Shooter in the left area (the other one can be beaten by a high move unit). Spamming Reserve staves with Rena and Ellis helps a lot too.

Did anyone ever learn the exact required deaths for the Gaidens, apart from 6x? I have 20 dead and no 12x arrived

I don't think the first four are worth it. One of them has a Wo Dao, but I can't think of much benefits.
However 24x isn't too bad. There, you get another Divine Dragon, and an extra Aura and Excalibur. Plus you only need to kill off one character here (and you can resurrect them later : P).

So if you get 24x you get another Divine Dragon but you can still revive Chiki? Wow.
