The FESS Website is live

Today is now Thursday, April 7th. Unless you're on the west coast of the United States, in which case you're probably getting ready for another earthquake anyway. That's what you get for being so far behind the rest of us normal people.

Today is also the release of Fire Emblem: Shin Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken (Jesus, that's a mouthful) in Japan. The ROM has leaked, and some players are already playing it, but the game is officially out.

However, for our community, this is a huge day, because our FESS Website - a labour of mostly love (in an S+M sense) - is up and running. You can access it here: http://grandbell.net.

People that frequent Eaichu's Fire Emblem Directory will recognize some of our data. This is because Eaichu has given us full rights to his domain, and his members, something he hasn't been involved with since 2007. I fully intend on our staff to take advantage of this, and continue the work that Eaichu started.

Since this makes the EFED site redundant at this point, and EFED is on my server, I will be redirecting that site to the main FESS site in a week. This gives their current administrator time to make any contingency plans he might need to make.

This said, I do need things still. This is where the community comes in. I will need the following information:

* Anything anyone has on FE10 and FE-DS. We're hurting in that department.
* I need face-sprites for the Book 3 characters in FE3.
* If someone would like to make character biographies and descriptions for all characters in all games, that would be great.
* I want to set us apart from other statistical sites; while we are still WIPing our stat base, what we really need is storyline analysis. A great place to build this would be the forums themselves, and we can take what comes from them and post them to the site. This was an idea DMAJohnson had way back when, that never materialized due to internal politics.

As I think of things, I'll expand that list. Any contributions - and concerns, questions, etc. - can be sent to webmaster@grandbell.net.

Finally, a MASSIVE - and I mean, FUCKING MASSIVE - word of thanks to our website team. This was done by four people: Blacky Wacky, who installed the Joomla base we're using, and our website team of EXPANSIVEFIGHTER (or whatever the fuck Judas is calling himself this week), Furby/Shadow of Chaos, and Crystal Shards. When I took over as the de-facto webmaster for the site for the old webmaster during his absence, I gave them some guidance on where to go, and they took it, ran with it, and recovered from an error where we lost the ENTIRE DATABASE to get us where we are today. My original deadline was the day FE-DS released, and this was set back in like April, but when I realised on Tuesday that it was coming on Thursday, those three responded, and have essentially worked a near-24 hour shift to get the site ready. I am incredibly indebted to those three. Incidentally, I am taking this time to officially announce Judas as our current and official site webmaster.

If anyone has any critiques, comments or what have you, by all means, put them here! In the meantime, enjoy the site; we're just getting started.

I've done a lot of shit for this community over the years, and had some sleepless nights of my own, but even I'm in awe. Massive thanks.

We reserve the right to use any information provided by you in order to improve and enhance the quality of our network and, once submitted, the site and its staff are not bound to remove your provided content or posts unless it violates previously established community policies, our privacy policy, or the other terms in this agreement.

tl;dr explanation: once you submit something to us, it's ours; you can use it elsewhere, but it's ours, and ours forever.

I can't give any more thanks than Superbus did to the whole website crew, but I'm hoping that everyone else can respect all the work these guys put in to giving FESS a comprehensive website. They weren't paid to do this, people.

As for some of the content submission, I can do character bios/descriptions for FE9 and possibly FE7 (I haven't played it in years). I've got a question, though: What exactly do you mean by "storyline analysis," Bus?

Amazing, the site looks quite simple, yet it's very nice in terms of navigation and everything is in the right place. I hope the upcoming designs doesn't change too much.

I was thinking the character pages could do with descriptions then I read this...would in-game descriptions (e.g. Erikia: The princess of the kingdom of Renais. She's elegant and kind.) be alright or would something more original be more suitable.

Nice work. The website is good looking (aside from the banner, imo), well laid out and, most importantly, it has tons of useful information that's easy to find. 

If it's needed, I could make character bios for FE4, FE6 and FE7 and also do some storyline analysis for all of those games.
