I'm at the chapter where Riff first appears. I go to his village, but I can't seem to recruit him. Urm..he won't join me? What do I do to recruit him?  @This is Chapter 3 by the way. |

Riff is an unconditional recruit from the left village in the first chapter. I think you may be mistaking him for someone else if you're not getting him.

Riff is an unconditional recruit from the left village in the first chapter. Conditional in that you must go to the village  He's hunched and has a pointy nose. And bald. |

I meant unconditional as in there's no other crap you have to do, like for Jake. I guess that most characters in this game are pretty easy to recruit though, so that makes my point redundant anyway.
There's a hunched, bald and pointy nosed villager as well. OK, maybe not pointy nosed.

The only one who can recruit him is Marth, IIRC. I got other characters getting on the village without results.

Only Marth can visit villages, so obviously he has to recruit Riff.

There's a hunched, bald and pointy nosed villager as well. OK, maybe not pointy nosed. And you see him how many times, as opposed to the unique Riff? In addition, one can easily tell a villager from a player, just from having played the series at all--their designs oft mimic their past selves. |

That one is around quite a bit. He's in the ending for at least three chapters. Although you're right it's obvious he's not a unit.

 Oh! Hah hah, I thought that a certain requirement was needed in order to recruit him. I actually mistaken him for the citizen in the first photograph. I've got him already, as he is recruited in the same chapter the same way as in the original NES version. The guy in the second photograph wwas actually him. |
