So, what items do you think are a waste of item storage space?  Here are the items I never use...

Slim Sword
Iron Blade
Steel Blade
Silver Blade
Brave Sword
Armorslayer
Wyrmslayer
Light Brand
Runesword
Long Sword
Horseslayer
Halberd
Devil Axe
Longbow
Bolting
Purge
Luna
Nosferatu
Silence
Sleep
Berserk
Barrier
Dragon Axe
Pure Water
Antitoxin
Mine
Light Rune
Heavy Spear
Short Spear
Wind Sword

Weapon-wise, I don’t like using weapons that are inaccurate, such as Luna or Nosferatu.  The long-range magic tomes often miss as well, and they can’t counterattack close enemies.  The “slim” weapons are too weak to be worth a damn (although I may use Slim Lance for Peg. Knights).  And the “blade” swords are too heavy to be worth a damn.

Antitoxin, I just don’t see the point.  Maybe if the poison actually drained more than 3 HP per turn, I might be more inclined to use it.  Pure Water, I could probably make better use of, but I just have a habit of not using it.  The mine and light rune, I don’t see the point either.  They may stop one unit, but what about the other 300 enemy units?

I've already made a list, Cryptic, because I wanted to know which ones I could replace.

Slim Sword
Steel Sword
Poison Sword
Iron Blade
Steel Blade
Silver Blade
Armorkiller
Dragonkiller
Steel Lance
Poison Lance
Horseslayer
Knight Killer
Spear (Slender Spear)
Short Spear
Javelin
Steel Axe
Poison Axe
Dragon Axe
Hand Axe
Halberd
Hammer
Devil Axe
Steel Bow
Poison Bow
Longbow
Argyraurae
Elfire
Nosferatu
Luna
Eclipse
ALL Staff except for Live and Reserve (well, I guess Warp might have a use or so...)
Mine
Light Rune
Pure Water
Antitoxin

The slim sword is pointless. Iron Swords are light enough for almost everyone to use without AS. They are enough for everyone use with only 1 AS loss. The Blades are heavy and inaccurate. When it comes to Lances... Slim Lance to train pegasi, Iron for everyone else. Killer Lance when I feel like it, then the divine weapon in the inventory at the end. Nothing else. Axes... always inaccurate. Irons and Killers only. I don't need any Dark magic besides Flux and Gespenst because it looks awesome. Argyraurae is too heavy. Eclipse has a base hit rate of 20. A unit with 30 skill and full supports would only push that to 50-something hit rate. Of course, if you're looking to train other characters... Mines and Light Runes are pointless. Full speed ahead, I say. Staffs... I don't bother with them unless it's like FE6 Ilia route where Archers hide behind walls... You could kill them and lose the Orion's Arrow in their inventory. Other than that, I only use Live, Reserve if it's that bad of a situation.

All kind of dark magic, I dislike both Knoll and Ewan >_>

Other than that, I don't think I have ever used Light runes or mines. I have found uses for everything else

The Iron Blade and Devil Axe are useful for raising weapon level, especially for Generals... I like to use them for that purpose. Otherwise I more or less agree with the sets.

Basically the weapons that I don't find a lot of uses are:

-Silver weapons; my units are good enough with iron or steel weapons. Silver weapons are just more expensive.
-Devil Axe; not sure if it's true, but there's a chance that you can hurt yourself with it even with maxed luck (at least it happened to a friend of mine).
-Light Rune; okay...I could just kill the enemies and that's the end of it.
-Mine; I don't recall the Mine Glitch being in FE8, so this is utterly pointless. You have to use strategic power to inflict 10 HP to one enemy! Oh boy!
-Gleipnir; Naglfar beats it in every way (I recall this is even after taking the +5 SKL that Gleipnir gives into account). Gleipnir has limited uses unlike Naglfar and is not effective against monsters. I really don't see the point.
-Latona; I don't even get into the situation to use this. Plus, it only has three uses.
-Antitoxin; is poison really that serious?
-Pure Water; Meh, I find Barrier staves more worthwhile.
-Vulnerary; You basically don't need these at all, especially when you have access to healing.
-Mend and Recover; They heal too much and are more expensive. Heal staves do just fine.
-Long-ranged magic; They are too heavy for most magic users and thus are less likely to double attack. They also have very little uses. Eclipse is especially crap due to low hit rate and is unable to kill enemies with more than 1 HP.
-Slim weapons are too weak; I only use them if I choose to test my luck for a critical (which of course almost never happens with such a mediocre critical boost).

...there would be more but I might post them later. Not all the items come to mind at the moment.

Oh. I forgot about long-ranged magic for FE8. As far as Thunderstorm goes, I've only ever needed it in one game: FE7. I use Fala's Might on Nino/Rescue/Play etc so that Nino gets the boost for the entire time she needs to kill all those long-range mages in the Final chapter. With a Hammerne intact going in, it's enough to kill all but the bottom two at least. She could finish those two off if she criticalled multiple times (and with a critical of about 22... it happens)

Devil Axes... It's only use is to give yourself some laughs when an enemy kills himself with it.

But for the Mine... think of it like those flame tiles. If the mine kills the enemy, you don't get any experience. I guess it really is just for leveling low strength units, but even so, I don't use it.

Vulneraries... Well Moulder and Natasha can only cover so much ground early on, and Moulder you find might have some Power issues. Natasha's Power growth is fine, but her bases are low. Then again, your units don't typically have that much hp to heal early on...

- Any staff except Heal and Mend. Maybe Warp if I needed to get a unit somewhere fast/otherwise inaccessible.
- Pure Water: meh, just never saw a need for it.
- Torches: I just bring along a thief or two.
- Any of the S class weapons: I'm a hoarder. 8D Plus my units do enough damage with regular weapons.
- Silver weapons: Pricey, and again, my units do fine with iron, steel, or killer weapons.
- Antitoxin: I just heal every round. Free experience!
- Light Rune: never saw a need for them.
- Mine: see above
- Devil Axe: I'd rather not risk the character hurting themselves instead of their target.
- Long range magic: too heavy and can't counter.
- Long Bow: again, see above.
- Chest keys: that's what lockpicks/rogues are for.
- Door keys: same deal.
- Metis' Tome: I can never decide who to use it on. ;

Also, I tend to hoard stat boosters like a chipmunk hoards nuts (yes, I know you can buy them in this game). Yes, I'm weird. XP But all the characters tend to have good enough stats on their own anyway.

Hinata, it scares me how uncannily similar we are. I do just fine with Killer weapons. I take advantage of HP-level ups and poison to level Natasha/Moulder/Lachelle and maybe others who need staff leveling.

Not so with the Metis' Tome though. I pick someone underleveled and throw it their way (Lachelle comes to mind in Eirique's route; I throw it to Syrene in Ephraim's route).

Also, there are other items which I may consider useless:

-Monster-slaying weapons (Beacon Bow, Bright Lance, etc): Enemy monsters are crap anyway, so even iron weaons are effective against them
-Hoplon Guard (or whatever the FE8 Iron Rune is called): Enemies can never critical because they're crap. The only scenario when they can critical is when they use killer weapons or if you're up against a swordmaster or a berserker, but again they're not strong enough to cause any fatalities. Still, one of the better items that I ignore.
-The A-Rank 2-range weapons (Runesword, Tomahawk, Spear): Personally, I don't like using strong weapons that has limited uses, and I think that these three weapons are overdoing the job. I could sell them for extra cash for more useful things though.
-Armor-slaying weapons: Utterly useless in creature campaign.
-Gems: Since this thread is about items that waste convoy space, so gems are utterly worthless for convoy filling. Sell them!

Gems are a complete waste of time. Sure they can be sold for money, but practically rains in Sacred Stones, so they aren't even useful for that. Silver Blades are also useless because they only have one more might than standard Silver Swords. Slim Swords are completely worthless because everyone can wield the stronger Iron Swords without speed loss.

That's all I can think of for now.

In the case of the Steel weapons and Elfire, it's because they're so heavy- half the time, unless you have a really heavy character, you're going to be doubling with the Iron but not with the Steel, so you're doing LESS damage with the steel. In addition I believe they're harder to hit with for the same reason.

I agree with the rest. Who the hell doesn't like Physic?

As Aitherion said, I don't use Steel and Elfire much due to their weight. Elfire gets some use when I'm low on Anima, but steel is too heavy for the units who would like the boost in strength. The ones who don't need the extra power but could use it without AS loss generally don't have as high a Skill stat, and ought to use Iron to actually hit the enemy.

Now... Armorkiller, Knightkiller, Javelin, Hand Axe... they are all heavy and unwieldy. I'd rather just use magic on any Generals that are too tough (in FE8???). Hand Axes... are not my preferred weapon, but I'd say it gets the most use of the four. I'd take Hand Axes over the Steel, but I'd only use them to fight monsters if someone needs Axe weapon level...

Staffs... I like Physic well enough, but it's not necessary at all. I make do just fine with Live, Reserve, and Warp. Besides, Reserve is better than Physic in all counts except durability. Rescue is probably unnecessary in this game. I do not need Hammerne (save to support Reserve in its durability?), Torch (I just rush in the Rausten chapter), Sleep/Silence (faster just to kill the enemy, especially since at best the hit rate is 50 ish %), M Shield (if I need to drain Berserk, Lachelle can do that without), Berserk... Relive is only for leveling Moulder/Natasha/Lachelle until their Power gets nice enough to heal with Live... and Live usually does the job since when they have Power problems, it's when all your units are low-levelled with little HP anyway.

Largley, I find myself using only the basic weapons. You know, Iron Swords, Fire, stuff like that. Pretty much everything else gets sold. I keep some staves around, like Hammerne and those rare ones, but expensive weapons are usually sold the moment I get them.

I would say that steel weapons and elfire are useful. Sure the iron and weaker magic ensures you double, but with the way you gain speed in this game makes it enough so that you do double with pretty much anything. (sometimes even with bolting) Or maybe that's just me. and as for staffs I only use heal and physic, and for some reason I usually keep the rare staffs just because they are. I should really sell them or at least use them.

Moulder the boulder laughs at Elfire's weight

He's the only one of the bunch that doesn't lose speed from it, also the only guy that gains speed from Excalibur.

Elfire is the more efficient of the C rank magic- 10 weight for 10 might and 85 hit.  Nosferatu is 14 weight for 10 might and 70 hit, and Divine is a horrendous 12 weight for 8 might with 85 hit.  Elfire's also a good deal cheaper to buy.  Nosferatu's got that healing effect, but it's a useless novelty since even on the hardest setting, the enemies are still pathetic and will barely hurt you for it to be particularly valuable of an effect.  Lute as a Mage/Sage (or Ewan as a Super Trainee) is the only one particularly devastated by 10 weight, but everyone else takes a small Spd hit from it, or none at all- and in Lute's case, she's got some speed to burn against the monsters with their pathetic speed ratings.

So Elfire, I never had a beef with.  I also didn't mind the Killer class of weapons- criticals are fun so I used them pretty liberally despite them being unreliable because shit died easily enough anyway.  Physics I always like, even though I rarely found a need, emphasis on need, for them in this particular game.

The Steels, useless, far too heavy for their might advantages, especially the steel lance.  The curative items like antitoxin and crap like the mine and light rune- pointless or cumbersome.  The Blades suffer the same problem as the Steels class in general.  The class killing items are equally unnecessary in my eyes because shit died easily enough- in the older games, I found use for them, particularly FE 3 and 5, because critical damage to a class type was handy instead of novelty.  In general, I agree with most of the lists except for the noted exceptions.

You should never touch Mend, even in those situations, as it usually brings out problems after promotion. I noticed that on one play when I used only Mend, after promotion the unit would either automatically S staves or could never touch one again until Light or whatever was S'd. Since the S rank Staff is pretty useless anyway, I would rather have it put to something I can attack with. Especially for a mere one exp more.

Even for the small difference in HP, in this game, as many have said, the enemies barely damage your units enough that you would need to use Mend.

^ As I've said, it's only for use early in the game, when the enemies are still human.

When unpromoted, the weapon level caps at A. Upon promotion, you get a certain number more weapon level points, but is not an auto-S unless you hack it so. Of course, you could try to promote your character when they only have a B rank, but at best, they'd be level 12 then again, in this game... I suppose the fact that Natasha only gets training through the arena may factor in, since I could just have her fight over and over at 20/20 until she gets S Light while someone else (either unpromoted or max'ed offensive magic) heals her.

On the other hand, in FE6, it does seem that your weapon rank jumps up a whole level, from A to S, but there is no critical bonus in that game, and you can S-rank multiple weapons anyway.
