So we know they can be used when forging weapons in FE10.  But what about in FE9?  Do they do anything?  I can't figure out what they're for.

I believe their role in FE9 is to be "thief bait", since thieves always take the lowest item in your inventory and putting a coin there prevents them from taking anything valuable. Of course, the flaw with that is that most thieves in this game generally aren't going to approach you to steal something...

On a somewhat related note, I have a question about transferring to FE10. Do any other items carry over other than Coins?
