Great. Nobody cares. If you don't like it, don't post here. This is not a "BAWW I SHALL OFFER STUPID UNINFORMED OPINIONS ABOUT THINGS I KNOW AS MUCH ABOUT AS A MONKEY DOES ABOUT NUCLEAR PHYSICS" thread for people like you; this is a thread for constructive discussion. (Not that I expect you of all people to have any ideas about constructive discussion, but that's an argument for another day.)
phpBB is a piece of fucking trash used by script kiddies and people who don't know any better. Anyone with any experience with this sort of shit would prefer IPB to phpBB, and that's saying something given how fucking terrible IPB is. Why the fuck would I waste my time "coding" something that's already done in SMF in a better way? Or use hideously insecure shit like phpBB when a well-done board such as SMF is already installed?
And if you're "too lazy" to make an account, you don't need to be posting here, and neither does your brother. If I see another post from someone other than the account owner, I will be testing SMF's very nicely done ban system upon you both. Is that clear?

This is Virus/Aznddongman too lazy to make an acc.
I personally think that SMF sucks. PHPBB is the way to go and is much for usable. And you can do pretty much anything you want with either coding (<3 DMA) or those hundreds or thousands of mods.
Didn't you learn something the last time you posted?

That's nice. So if we switch, will you two go away? Personally, that sounds like a plus in the SMF column.

I’m really enjoying the test forum. It’s definitely an improvement.
Also that little feature that tells you if someone posted before you did is a nice touch.

Very good. Once I got used to the brighter colour scheme (for now, thankfully ;D) and the gimmicks, I particularly enjoyed it.

Ok this is aznswordmaster1 not the younger brother. Personally I find this one to be easy as the last 3 boards that FESS has used so far, the format is similar which is a nice add. Well I think the background could be kept the same as the last but I think using white with black text will be easier on the eyes. So personally if FESS does mover here then thats cool with me.

I'm very much considering keeping the white backgrounds. They're a lot easier to read.
On the contrary, I find that light text on a dark background is easier on the eyes. There's even apparently a study to back this up, although that's just second-hand talk going around and I haven't actually seen said study.

Is it possible to get rid of the two bars that go down the sides of the board? In other words, stretch it so that it goes from one end of the browser to the other, like the IPB version : /
I like the being able to switch colors, thouhg.

On the contrary, I find that light text on a dark background is easier on the eyes. You're welcome to write a drop-in skin CSS and I can add it to the list; the theme is Dilber MC and can be found at the SimpleMachines site (their data center is moving and will be down for a couple hours, but you can get it there later, or I can link it). I have trouble with light text on dark backgrounds, and so I have gone with a lighter skin. You know CSS, I'm sure; it shouldn't be hard to come up with something that works for you, and I can add it to the style system so people can choose it. Is it possible to get rid of the two bars that go down the sides of the board? In other words, stretch it so that it goes from one end of the browser to the other, like the IPB version : / I set it up this way intentionally, as it focuses the eye to the center of the screen and provides some distinction from the background; you're the first person who's said they prefer having it all a single blob. Given that certain staffers seem desperate for some sort of background image, that's probably where it'll go if I elect to put one in.

The layout isn't too bad and I don't feel like I'm going to take a lot of time adjusting. Though personally I'd prefer a darker colour, it's your call.
Minor request, though - any chance of getting WYSIWYG for posting? I find it a bit easier to post with it - though it's not going to ruin my life if it's too much work or impossible, of course.

This looks pretty good so far. I think I could get used to this pretty quickly. I just have a couple of questions:
Any chance of the "fast reply" making a comeback? I liked that a lot.
Also, is it possible to set "Return to this topic" on by default?
Finally, will our old smileys be coming back?
EDIT: Whoops, it looks like we already have quick reply and return to topic by default.

Quick question. Is it possible to make replies without putting your signitude in.
I geuss the main use of that was to de-clutter sticky topics for easier printing but the print button kind of does that anyway, speaking of which...<edit in a sec watch like a ninja>
...images don't show up. Just the URL. Sometimes info tables use images. Not a big deal anyway as i'm sure most look at the info tables rather than print them off.

Actually, it doesn't really matter too much, but that's how it is on IPB and I wasn't sure if it was just because of Opera. Though, on the other hand it's really annoying to have a 1280x1024 resolution when the forum likes to display everything as though you had a 800x600 and bunch everything in the middle. :X EDIT: I wonder if it's possible to have the this white part somewhat partially transparent and have some sort of background image behind it. Though, it sounds too complicated for a little gimmick that probably won't work out.

Though, it sounds too complicated for a little gimmick that probably won't work out. Tried it, with bad results. The rest of the forum, you see, is INSIDE the CSS mainbar, and so it makes the text partially transparent too. And it doesn't make your screen "like an 800x600" at all. Each sidebar is 2.5% the width of the browser window.

I personally like the layout. Especially the new, smexy quick reply box with all it's features. Just a few questions though, is it possible to remove the "Re: <insert topic title>" at the top of each post? I just find it a little distracting. Also, is there a way to emulate the way that the current board gives stats, yet keep that wonderful "More Stats" link? And will there be a link (or obvious one if my blind-as-a-bat self missed it) on the front page that will display staff, and the other similar links?

The stats will probably go away as I remove post counts.
And no, no real way to remove the subject line.

Sorry, I guess I should have been a bit clearer on my question for stats. Will it be able to emulate the stats in the same layout like the current board does?
