I'm sure at least a few of you here have tried some crazy challenge in an attempt to test the limits of your Fire Emblem skills. Personally, I haven't tried too many challenges, but I did recently try to complete Mystery using only Marth and Jeigan. Although I had to put that on hold when Thracia arrived in the mail.

Let's see what the rest of you have done.

I'm not too creative... one day, I just had the random thought...

FE7: Ice affinity run. Legault, Jaffar, Pent, Raven, Ninian, Marcus... aside from recruitment. Despite the favouritism for offensive affinities like Fire and Light, it wasn't too bad with only Legault and Jaffar able to support. We still had to bring along Lords to some degree, so Ninian and Marcus had some support from Eliwood. The only part that was completely irrelevant was Lyn mode.

FE7 Darkness affinity. Isadora, Rath, Merlinus (but I used Merlinus every run any way...). This one w as more difficult, since prior to Kinship's Bond, I just used whomever. Once kinship's bond came along, I had to spam a level 1 Paladin and a level 8 Nomad... Fun.

FE7: Light magic. Serra, Lucius, Renault. Well, Serra and Lucius support, albeit slowly, and both of them are extremely good characters.

FE6: Ilia: Zealot, Juno, Thany, Tite. I don't really count Niime and Treck... It's a little difficult to hurt things when they all lack in Strength, but at least they have all the time in the world. Thany is a dodge queen, and Tite does well for herself. Juno and Zealot are difficult, but they all support each other, and Zealot can get support bonuses while Juno can spam some early experience with Triangle Attack.

FE6: Sacae: Rutger, Fil, Sue, Shin, Karel. I skipped Dayan... I didn't need him. At all. It starts a bit difficult against high defense, high hp, lance-users, but it stops being a problem later.

FE6: Etruria: Clarine, Klein, Percival, Dieck, Elfin (instead of Lalum), Cecilia, Douglass. Not too hard... Klein isn't too bad, and I spammed Clarine until promotion. Dieck comes early and great. They're solid and can support each other. Cecilia and Douglass aren't really needed, as Percival does just fine with the others.

FE6: Non-Ostia, Non-Pherae Lycians: Chad, Lugh (or Rue.. *SHOT*), Rei (or Ray), Cass. I actually compiled this from people I *believed* to be Lycians who weren't from Ostia or Pherae.

FE8 was a lot harder to do challenges. I was *going* to go by region like with FE6, but it's too easy even so i.e. Jehanna: Joshua, Marica, Jist, Tethys...
FE8: Natasha only after promotion. This really frustrated me. She is 20/15 before she can dodge. If not for her high Luck, this would have been impossible, since her speed is so low, and she doesn't exactly have the HP and Def to make up for it.

I did a FE8 Paladin run...pathetically easy.  I mean, you get Seth.  Sure, there's other people, like Amelia, Franz, Forde, Kyle, decent supports, but heck, you could probably do all of FE8 with just Seth.  Slightly tougher was a mage run...but only because it meant using Moulder.

I did an all Hector run once, which isn't that impressive at all. Got raped on the final level.

Path of Radiance Ike solo in Hard Mode. In the beginning and the last levels it was a little messed up when there are a few characters you're required to bring along. Also ally units like Tibarn in Day Breaks, Part IV, screwed things up. But it's a good challenge for anyone who's up to it (you definitely need to get Guard and Vantage, it's practically impossible to get past Chapter 17:Day Breaks without it.)

Extending the theme I did a mounted only run of FE8. Only problem was Epharim and Erika...they become mounted upon promotion which is fun trying to get them kills with their useless stats due to not being used prior (yes its easy to just completely ignore them but...)

I've also done mounted only in FE6...though I used thieves also since FE6 doesn't give you keys before anything you need to unlock. Its interesting using some of the lousier mounted units Plus it was fun to fight Idoun for a change rather than have Roy one round her

It isn't much in the way of an actual challenge, but I once played through FE9 with the intention of only using 5 particular characters (subject to when I got them in the game): Ike, Soren, Shinon, Stefan and Volke. Wasn't really difficult, but it sure was fun. Especially in the later stages where it was a matter of choosing which character would decimate which division of the enemy army on their own.

Another thing I like is the concept of a 'War is Hell' playthrough, where you don't restart chapters if a character dies, regardless of how much you value them (exception being the main characters). I did that with FE6 and 8. In a way I think it can be more enjoyable, because if you do lose characters, you genuinely mourn losing them (assuming you like them), and finding replacements for them makes you value the other characters more, even the ones you don't normally use.

I often take all-mounted playthroughs or female-only ones. I haven't really done one that warrants bragging rights.

Prepromote + Eliwood run in FE7. I lost interest after Jaffar got critted by a Swordslayer Berserker on CoD.

"Once something is dead, no reset" in FE7 on my own. Lost interest when Lowen killed himself with Devil Axe on a Monk in Crazed Beast. Probably shouldn't have been so greedy.

Did something similar with FE6 and one other guy. You do a chapter, then hand it to the other, and don't restart if someone dies, unless that someone is crucial for a gaiden (like Lilina in Ch8) or if it's Roy. I got Chad killed in Ch3 due to a stray Javelin Cavalier, then Marcus on Ch11 (Bartre route) due to a bit of bad luck, and then a half supported Dieck to the Killer Axe Fighter (he had like 20 Hit, it was ridiculous). My partner in crime made up for it by getting Ellen and Lilina killed in the chapter after that. Then either Sophia or Roy died on him in the desert, then Ray and Sophia did for me, and then he finally made it, though it cost us Geese and Lot (but they were behind by a lot anyway). I don't think we had any deaths after that.

Did the same with five people for FE7 HHM. It was a lot of fun, but we lost interest at New Resolve.

Paladin-only run in FE7. Must admit I used Athos for the Dragon though. Isadora killed Linus with massive luck.

Ross solo in FE8.

Eirika and Ephraim solo in FE8.

Some funny FE8 speedrun attempts, and an FE4 speedrun attempt.

Managed to get all subs for FE4 once, then got bored of how bad they were compared to the kids, and made it a private run of Celice, Aless and Shannan.

Solo'ed FE4 with Sigurd, then with Celice. Celice couldn't get the Tyrfing though due to the bridge there being too clogged.

Beat FE8, then collected every single item in the game and kept them at full uses. So yeah, no using Rapier, Reginleif, Sacred Twins. I used Seth and Franz throughout the game, but they sucked too much against Demon King, so I threw some RNG abuse and stat boosters on Arthur. Found out that the Demon King does not move if nobody is in range, so I just went with a rescue + heal chain with some help from Saleh and Natasha.

Tried to use sucky units in FE8 HM. Tana, Amelia, Dozla, L'Arachel, Neimi, Garcia, Innes, Rennac and Syrene were such a dream team. That playthrough was awesome.

I don't really do special playthroughs, but I have played all the games in the series, which I guess is something worth noting...

This, I just don't get as much fun from the game doing stuff like female only compared to just whoever I wanted. Although if I think about it I did do a Swordmaster/Sage/Mist only run of FE9 by complete accident (I just randomly used them all and only noticed at the endgame), but I don't think it counts since its not just one requirement/class (female, paladin only, etc).

Other games (other circles?) refer to this type of challenge as Ironman. I remember seeing some people over at Neogaf doing a FF1 white mage only Ironman run...there are lots of scares to be had (such as early-game boss Astos with an instant death spell...thankfully he can be muted though but some players lost a party member before they could suceed with that).

In similar spirit I remember a Beowulf and Delmud solo challenge being attempted though I can't remember if it finished

==About the only thing that I ever made as a challenge was an Eliwood-only game in FE7. It was somewhat difficult, but I didn't really consider it a challenge because I enjoyed doing it.
