No, it's a fair statement- you don't NEED to use any particular weapon type in order to beat the game. You can not use nature magic at all and still beat the game with relative ease.
Even with Bern's love of high HP Dragon Knight units, there are plenty of other ways to kill them outside of nature magic. They are lance exclusive units when as enemies for the most part so anything with an axe has an advantage against them: Warriors, Berserkers, Paladins, Heroes. They're flying, so bows have an effective bonus against them: Snipers, Warriors, Nomadic Troopers. They have a weakness to dragon slaying weapons: legendary weapons, Wyrmslayer.
All those options and none of them using magic at all, let alone nature magic in specific. Some of those classes can handle double those advantages too like a Warrior, Hero, and Nomadic Trooper. You never have to Sages, it's just that nature magic is so horrendously broken in your favor that things get really easy when you do use it.

I dunno. I'll stick with Lugh over Lilina simply because he can take care of himself. His speed edge is considerable enough that I believe it to outweigh Lilina's immense magic; the doubling and evade will end up with a superior unit than a one-hit wonder. Moulder the Boulder

Lugh, definitely. I have a large aversion to female mages, especially if it's Loli-material and they have a lot of fans (Lilina, Nino). I also choose Hugh a lot, because I like sages and he has purple hair. I hardly ever pick characters for their worth  |

However, I believe that Mekkah is NOT right about the fact that we really don't need anima magic at all. You don't need it. You don't need any weapon type. You don't need Clarine either. You never have to Sages, it's just that nature magic is so horrendously broken in your favor that things get really easy when you do use it. The weapon stats may be awesome, but I think the Sages who can use it are mediocre to bad overall. |

If we're talking about which mage is better and not favorites, then Lugh > Lilina. I haven't used Hugh yet(so I'll probably edit this post in a couple months or more.  . His late joining time and price isn't helping his cause though.). For normal mode, Lilina can't double for quite a while, is doubled by any enemy with reasonable speed, can be one-rounded by those fighters in Ch.11, and has less net offense than Lugh early on. |

Personally, I think it's a shame you don't get at least one sage. I always have an affinity for promoted sages, no matter how good or bad they are. I loved Pent and Saleh as well, mostly for his looks though. LOLSELFQUOTE promoted sages That's sort of double in Fire Emblem 6 terms  |

My Lilina's speed has always been right on par with everyone else, and she never gets doubled. She also has never gotten one-hitted, even before I use an Angel Robe on her (which I usually need to because I send her off somewhere with one support unit). I also never have a problem with her skill, even without supports. Maybe I'm just really lucky.

Mine are the exact same way. I just hate hearing the "HER DURABILITY BLOWS SO HARD! HER SKILL IS UP THE ASS! HER SPEED IS BULLSHIT! LUGH>>>>>>>>LILINA CUZ I SAID SO!!!". Yeah. That stuff. |

The thing is, Lilina does have poor growth in speed and skill. If you prefer her over Lugh, I won't tell you that you're wrong, but you really can't expect everyone else to share your opinion.

Yes. Yes, you are. Her speed's simply average at best and her skill blows; anything better is the RNG blessing you. Though nothing will quite match my Level 20/1 Sophia with 21 speed for me. |

I do seriously wonder if Hugh was supposed to be a Sage. At the point of the game you are basically being given prepromted units though in me saying that you also get Zeis and Fa who are not promoted... I can imagine if anyone was to try and make a reblanced version (FE7 stats for stuff or something) that might a change they would consider making... |

He would be quite a bit better as some sort of Pent in this game...I don't think they typo'd his class, since it'd be very very obvious when playtesting. It seems non-traditional to make prepromotes join at such obscene levels (L14 was it? Douglas joins much lower at around the same time). Then again, Niime is L18 a few chapters later...not that levels say a lot about power.
For Lugh vs Lilina, the level comparison is somewhat valid. Using in-game stats, not really. Averages please.

i didnt use lugh , but i used hugh and lilina and they both rocked. all my other magic users, bishops, valkeries, shamans , were ok but not as strong |

well from my experiences... if you like character C alot more then character A despite C being inferior to A in every way you can easily find a way to make C viable they're very few truly worthless characters in this game. With that said I prefer Hugh of the lot of the mages.... Lilina is alright but too lop sided from my liking and Lugh has been rather poor for me on average. Hugh wasnt a god for me but he got the job done for me and thats all i wanted.
