What the EVERLIVING FUCK do I do about that... THING in chapter 15?

You know the one. The Dark Druid who, despite having a Devil Axe on a Maji that has good strength, doesn't take damage, and comes right for me. I can't just sit there, he'll pick us apart.

What do I DO about that thing? Stick a high-res unit on the bridge, pump him up with a res staff, and finish the stage ASAP, damn the chests?

You can't harm him, his Maph spell protects him, and Starlight(The only thing that CAN harm him) can't be obtained until Chapter 22

OK, so how do I keep him from picking off members of my army like they're expendable?

A very good question, he leaves at the end of turn 6, and the best you can do is stay away, or lure him away with someone with high res.

I ended up doing just that, though it was VERY touch and go because of the dragonriders that come in from the northeast. Rena (18 RES) handled him no problem, but those riders were an issue, which meant I had to almost expose my archers a couple times.

It ended up OK; it took forever for me to finish the stage because I didn't get started until turn 6, and had to catch that thief at the right time, but it worked out with some patience.

I know this is going a little off, but, didn't you already play and beat Monsho no Nazo? The battle in question also took place in book 1 of Monsho...

I didn't finish book one. The last stage I remember playing in Book 1 is the one in FE:DS that's before this stage, where you get Paola and Est. So as of now, I'm in uncharted territory.

Um, Paola comes with Katua. Est comes later and has the Miracle Sword in her inventory.

And just to stay on topic, I stuck someone with good dodge on the bridge so Garnef couldn't cross it in my last playthrough.

I found good dodge just doesn't help in this game. Taking hits does though. So for me it was Sheeda (she can get to the brdige quickly) buffed up with a Magic Barrier staff* (the Pegasus Knights natural Res and the Res buff help reduce the hurt). At least...I'm pretty sure we had a barrier staff by that point in the game.

If not I relied on vulnaries and the occasional physic staff.

Also I remember him staying for a lot less time in FE3 book 1...

An alternative method is, instead of Res tanking, is to simply have your units rush through the chapter, constantly running towards the throne and staying out of range.  This may be the method required on the harder modes, since I heard that Garnef takes longer to leave (so you would have to Warp Staff someone or give your Pegasus some treasure keys to grab the treasure).

Two tactics that I've worked with.

1. Bring a Pegasus Knight or Dragon Knight and fly them as fast as possible to the side of the building he's in. You can get Garnef to turn back and waste time, and you can move the flyer over the ocean whenever enemies come. If you're not using the character you could just let him kill them to waste even more time.

2. Fun Fact #89: There are 4 Warp Staves, each with 7 uses. Rationing uses of these things is pointless, as I had two left when I was abusing the hell out of them. Just warp Julian or a Magic user with a Chest Key over the other side of the map to distract him (and take out most of the Mages), and then taking the chests quickly.

EDIT: Just for clarification, Garnef leaves after the same amount of turns in all iterations of the game.

You never played FE1 or FE3 Bus? :O

As answered, it's Garnef and his Maph spell seals all attacks (Or it did, it may just make him take no damage in this game). In order to beat him...

Again, everything I said is based off of FE1/3, but I assume it holds true to FE11.

EDIT: I personally like to use a MDF staff on a pegasus night and just heal through it, or... play the cat and mouse game having a pegasus knight go behind him so he goes after her and then move her over the water when he gets close, so he ends up going back to your guys, then rinse and repeat.

Again that's for FE1/3, it may be a little different in FE11.

As I've said, I stopped playing FE3 the chapter prior, if the stages in FE:DS are any indication. My last stage in FE3 Book 1 was the one with all the Pegasus Knights coming in after Katua and Paola join.

That prevents obtaining the treasures from garnef's originating point.

In any case, I think gato gives info on the Starlight spell by the end of the chapter, so I doubt it would be counted upon as spoiler.

Are you sure you're on the desert chapter? There's two clones of him that you can hurt in an interior chapter towards the end of the game. It's always shows the pre-battle info as if it's the real Garnef (so you can't cheat), but if it isn't it'll affect them normally anyway.

Well, he did state to give a Pegasus Knight a few chest keys and warp staff them to his originating point (which would actually work out well, especially if you hit them with a shot or Res staff first; give a shot of res to Sheeda or Katua, and let them kick some ass)

Clarification: Pegasus Knights wouldn't need the Warp Staff to collect treasure, they would be drawing fire from Garnef and travelling themselves.  I mentioned Warp Staff for if you want to send a Thief or another non-flyer there.

And it's true, warp staves are broken.  Not only do they have tons of uses and you can get a lot, but I heard they can also be fixed with Hammerene, which has also a decent amount of uses.

Although they did overdo it with the amount you can get, I'd say this is one of the Fire Emblems -if not the- where you need it the most.
