Arden/Edain is pretty good. Lex may have the blood and the skills, but Arden can actually pass down bows.

Lex also has the stat growths. The only thing Arden beats Lex in is strength. All of the other stats are either equal or inferior. And the Neir blood works much better for both kids, too. Arden provides Rana with an extra 20% growth in defense, because of his base 40% in that stat. Which beats Lex's base 20%. But Lex gives Rana a whooping 40%; 10% base and 30% because of the Neir blood. Stats-wise, Lex is much better, especially considering strength is worthless for Rana.

True, I did Lex/Edain once and was pretty happy with the results. But being able to pass down weapons is a nice bonus. (Too bad the bosses don't drop any bows!)

I'm tempted to try Noish/Tiltyu, though. I don't expect good magic from that, but Critical skill + Tordo blood's high skill growth would at least mean they did twice the damage more often? I'm just guessing, of course; has anyone else tried this pairing? If so, tell me if my guess is off.

Though Critical's activation would be slightly higher, Wrath's usefullness would decline quite a bit. Also, building up NoishxTiltyu takes a while.

Yeah, that's what I figured.

Also, unrelated question-if you did a pairing where the father typically didn't pass anything down, but they managed to snag a sword or staff off a defeated enemy would it get passed down despite the father not being able to use it? I just wanna double check since I'm doing Jamuka/Ayra and he killed Shagall for the silver broadsword.

Yes, they'll pass it down. I know 100% sure as I'm currently doing a playthrough using that pairing as well and Skasaher ended up with the Silver Broadsword in his possession.

Good, just wanted to make sure.

Now, back to the subject...guys, thoughts on Levin/Edain? I'm VERY reluctant to waste Holsety because it's so damn useful, and this pairing can't be too good for Lester. But I like the idea of Rana with Elwind and Berserk. Has anyone ever tried this one? Think it's at least worth a shot?

Well, Lester's always "fixable" with rings...Pursuit Ring alone would simply allow him to work with his now nice skill set (Pursuit, Critical, Continue). He'll have pretty amazing Spd, and the low Str won't hurt _that_ much until later. It's like Sety with Noish as his dad, really.

For Lana, I think she spends most of her time as a healbot, so it's not much of an improvement, though fun in the arena or after promotion, I guess.

If you want to try out something like this, I'd recommend Levin/Lachesis. Delmud actually doesn't care as much as Lester about the loss of Str because he has that Hezul blood.

That's what I figured. It's just too bad you don't get the good bows until a few chapters into the second gen.

I like using my priests to fight, even if they're not anything special it's always nice to have extra mage units.

Well, Azel/Lachesis worked out for me every time and Azel has strength issues as well, so that could be fun.

I've played through the times three times now - Don't get me wrong, I really like this game. It's just that I always need a FAQ and that makes playing a bit of a hassle - and I've used the exact same pairings every single time. Mostly the "best", "recommended" or "standard" pairings, so I'm trying to do something completely different this time. Use underdog fathers, for example. But first I'll have to do some research.
