I don't think I've ever had a swordmaster with more critical than Rutger.
Isn't that just because FE6 Swordmasters have +30% critical, while FE7 and FE8 swordmasters have ( I think ) +15%?

Yet somehow, that doesn't change the fact that...
A. He get more critical than any other swordmaster.
B. In a game with 2 other swordmasters, he still gets the highest due to better supports (although, Fir could get the same critical if she supported with Bartre and Rutger, but in HM, that's not really a good idea >_>)

Joshua and Marisa crit far more often with the Shamshir than Rutger ever does with the Wo Dao.

I don't think I've ever had a swordmaster with more critical than Rutger.
Don't get me wrong: I love Rutger. But I don't see how he gets more criticals than anyone else. Take away Watou/Shamshir since that's a solid 40 crit all around, and then take away the critical bonus, since that would be unfair towards FE6... All SM's average skill from 27-29. Just comparing him to Fil... Rutger averages 29 VS Fil's 28. Base critical is half of skill, rounded down. I don't see how Rutger would have more critical unless you were severely RNG raped on your other SM's and/or you don't bother giving the others supports. Besides, they're about equal in terms of support bonuses... All 3 SM's in this game have an affinity that gives critical bonuses. All support with enough other characters with critical affinities to have an all critical affinity boosting support chart AKA all get up to 25 boost if you support them with right people. Even that's irrelevant. @Illyrias ~ How do they critical more? They average skill around 28, and the Shamshir gets the same bonus as Watou (40). Joshua gets a nice Light support with Lachelle (15 crit at level A) and Jist (15 at level A), which comes out to 25 for 5 supports, the same as FE6. Marica supports 5 critical affinities out of 5 support options. Neat. Except she's Ice, so that means each support at level A will only give 7.5 bonus, and with full supports, she'll get 12.5 rounded down = 12 critical bonus. Between FE6 and FE8, Marica is the one at a huge disadvantage there, since everyone will get 27-29 skill (13-14 base crit), and especially since apparently Watou gives 5 more crit than Shamshir. Critical +2.5 per level on one side: Fire, Thunder, Wind, Light, Dark Ack, in fact, Watou has higher critical than Shamshir (40 VS 35).

Unless I'm missing something here, FE6 Wo Dao has 40 crit while FE8 Shamshir has 35 crit, and FE6 SMs have 15 more base crit than in FE8... the +5 crit for S rank doesn't really cover the difference here. FE7 SMs can get over 100 crit as well, though Thor's Ire isn't worth using most of the time. oops ninja'd

Oops, I forgot about the S rank bonus.
Well, Rutger, Fil, and FE6!Karel don't get that, but their Watou make up for it by having 5 more bonus than Shamshir. And, still, all their Skill stats are on par.
If Joshua and Marica are critically "far more often", it's because you're fighting 0 Luck monsters while FE6 SM's fight regular enemies.
I also forgot about Thor's Ire, though I wasn't really using FE7. IIRC, Guy, FE7!Karel, and Karla still all average 27-29 anyway, with the same S-rank bonus and Watou.

Maybe it's just luck, but my Rutger with the Wo Dao goes three, four, five attacks in a row at 80/85% crit does just a regular attack. Joshua and Marisa crit like mad even with regular weapons. Even Guy critted more often with a Killing Edge than Rutger. Maybe I just had a really crappy Rutger...

An 85% crit does mean a critical 17 out of 20 times on average... compared to about 60% max without a +crit weapon, which hits for triple damage 12 out of 20 times on average. You can't argue with probability.

When I played Sword of Seals a couple of years ago it was without a patch so I had no clue of character's personality so I took a liking to characters who just happened to look really cool IMHO. So initially I loved Roy because of SSBM.... but then he's ingame sprite and meh performance turned me off and after playing and beating Blazing Sword he seemed like a boring version of Eliwood who I loved...
but enough of random yapping...
Oujay I really like him.... though to be honest half of my initial attraction to his character was he kind of remind me of one of my own characters. It also helped that he turned out to be one of my best units max out Str,Skl,Spd,and Luck I believe... maybe even HP but I dont remember.
Lance + Allen I always enjoyed the Social Knight/Cavalier duo while not as funny of a pair as Kent and Sain, Forde and Kyle, Oscar and Kiearn , they had their own charm that I was quite found of and while neither of the two ended up being that awesome for me I kept them in my party for most of the game...one of them even made it to my final party I think.... maybe not I cant really remember.
Percival He just seemed like a real B.A.M.F. and after reading his support conversations and some of the Hasha no Tsurugi manga made my opinion of him go up quite a bit.
There a few more characters that I like... no one character who I'd call my favorite but alot of pretty cool characters .

Rutger and Fir for their high critical % (I have Rutger with support A with Clarine and have 99% with a Wo Dao and Fir without support and a Wo Dao have 89%) and Lilina and Sophia for the magic, they're very powerfull, but with a very low defense, but with some Dragon Shield they become more resistant to physical attacks

Well I'm going with Sue, She was a total life saver in the ranged department for me (Will and that other archer sucked) plus she can use swords too.

Fazilla.
I liked Thany due to my playing style relying on movement, and she was the first flying unit. I capped her skill, speed, and luck but her other stats sucked bad.
Karel for epic growth rates that I never actually used.
Either that or Levin's awesometactality is so great that it allows him to be my favorite character in a game he wasn't in.

Uh, Zeo, maybe you should go through one last playthrough of FE6. WOLT. Not Will.

Narshen!!! He's like Valter, but more original and even more demented.
Narshen (to Clarine): My lady, I shall play with you instead of your brother.
Aww, there's no Narshen smiley?
