I've recently had some work done on my laptop (defregmentation, backup, etc?) but apparently the OS (Windows XP) had to be reinstalled. Now that I have gotten it back, it seems that I cannot get the wound to work on it. When I go to Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices, the words "no audio device" appear under the Volume tab. Apparently, that means that I can't seem to connect to the built-in speakers...? Does anyone know how I can connect to the speakers again so I can get sound working?

Sorry if this is kind of brief, but I not sure what else I need to say yet.
Also, I'm pretty sure that person who did the work on it is trustable. I just don't know what they did, and how to get everything working again. >_>

You need to reinstall the sound card drivers. It should be on a disc that came with your computer or with your sound card.

I'm on the OS disk, and I found Drivers.cab. Is that what it's in? Also, the only thing in there that says "sound" is ovsound2.sys: Is that specifically what I need?

If I extract Drivers, does it matter where I extract it to so it will actually work?

It doesn't matter where you extract the drivers for the sound card since Windows will copy the files when it registers your hardware anyways.

By OS disk do you mean your Windows XP disk or the one that came with your laptop. I hope it's the latter.. in that case, sometimes your CD has software built in that'll install the drivers for you. Drivers also may span multiple files, but one of them will have a .inf extension on it.

If that fails you could always find the exact manufacturer and model of your sound card, then download the drivers for it off the manufacturer's website.

I copied the Drivers over from the CD, but I don't know what to do from there, if anything.

It is the CD that came with my laptop, not the other one. I can't seem to find anything directly from the CD that allows me to install this, however.
