So I'm trying to use Laguz for the sake of the FE10 Projekt and I'm getting my ass crushed in ways I didn't even knew it was possible. So my question is: is there any sort of advanced "Laguz use" tactic you guys have? any tips? good skill match-ups? anything that helps would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Staffers I consider this different enough from the Laguz Balancing thread so I decided to make this instead.

Laguz Stone -> Olivi Grass, or you can just use an Olivi Grass each turn or something.

Laguz transform and shift at will in this game, so the first and most obvious thing to do is wait to shift them until a big fight comes, and then revert them once all that's left is cleaning up. While human their jobs are best to block off enemies from being able to reach your back-row units, or take up an enemy's turn without offing them so that more can't come in and attack.

If you're planning to have them fight multiple enemies during the enemy phase, it can be best to simply have them munch on Olivi grass that turn rather than try to fight. Laguz stones should be saved until a time where you absolutely must have them help fight by the enemy phase (usually it's the missions in part 4 have me do this, and by the time they're ready to revert the majority of the action is done, so it all works out in the end).

Also, aside from Ranulf, the cats probably aren't a good investment. The hawks and tigers are able to sustain their form for a much more reasonable amount of time, so they're probably the better options when first trying to get used to them. Volug isn't too bad, either if you're willing to BEXP him to 99 EXP and have him level each mission available to let him catch up (being sure to take off Wildheart, of course).

I've found that with the right amount of investment, Laguz are quite effective with the Imbue skill.  Even if their Magic caps between 5 and 10, doubled that can at least keep you alive another turn or two.  Provided you don't rely on that for healing, but it can keep them alive an extra turn or two.  Plus, any Laguz that have defensive affinities are helpful as well.  Ulki comes to mind with that amazing ability and his Water affinity for the extra Defence.

Other than that, just listen to everyone else and ignore me.  :-P

Would be a good idea to retreat them once they would revert next enemy phase, so they can build up their gauge behind the frontlines. I don't know if you're solo'ing with Laguz, but if you are, just keep rotating them. And yes, Olivi Grass is your friend. If you must, abuse a Heron to L30 so they can chant Laguz to full gauge.

I noticed that if you use a "Card" item with a laguz and hit an enemy for 0 damage, it increases their laguz meter. I first noticed this in Part 2 where Olivi Grass was somewhat limited for all of the laguz to use. Overall using Olivi Grass is more useful and the cards aren't exactly handy but you might as well make use of the free cards you get.

Or you can just sell the cards for 2-3 olivi grass per card.

According to Serenes, you can't buy Olivi Grass until 4-F.

You can buy them from the Bargains though (in almost every chapter at that).  I don't think they're sold in the shop until then, though.

They're not sold until part 3, but I end up transferring my cards and such with Haar/Nephenee/Brom/Heather anyway.

Yeah, most common advice is just to hop them up on Olivi grass or Laguz stones.

I actually think Olivi grass is the only item that's used all too often. The only times I find myself using Laguz stones consistantly are a few of the missions in part 4 (and it's always at the start of the mission) and in the final chapter (when I want/need to save the Laguz gem).

I use them on Skrimir and just Olivi him up from there.  His gauge's recovery time is really slow, which works well both ways - Olivi counts for more and Laguz Stone transforms him a lot sooner.

I'm doing a Laguz-only playthrough this time. (Well, not completely. I need a healer and one magician so I'm using Mist and Soren, Soren also to complement Ike, as well as Haar. I've also used Nolan and Laura extensively in the first part, but if necessary they'll be dropped in favor of a Laguz.)

I'm planning on using these:

- Volug (gave him Paragon in the first part and he's levelled up nicely. Great stats as well, definitely staying in)
- Muarim (I realize he's going to be underlevelled, but Mordecai simply wouldn't gain any speed at all for me and I have loads of BEXP.)
- Kysha (Because I wanted two tigers and I didn't want to use Mordecai. If he starts to lag I'll drop him.)
- Ranulf (I love the guy, but he's also the only cat I'll use. Mostly because of their short promotion times. He also has some great stats.)
- Vika (Because I desperately want at least one crow and I hate Nealuchi. We'll see how it goes.)
- Ulki (I like him and there's really nothing stopping me. Maybe I'll also use Janaff, but it depends on my room.)
- Skrimir (If it's doable. I place Caineghis above him though, for the endgame.)
- Kurthnaga (I want a dragon and I don't like Ena. I'll just slap Paragon on him.)

As for the royals: the other Laguz go first. I'm playing easy (because I'm lazy and like having lots of experience) so I don't need them for the final chapters, and I've already used most of them before. Tibarn will most likely be in, though, since he's a favourite of mine as well.

An absolute pain to train her unless you enemy abuse enough. I find that the armors at the top of 1-F can't hit her consistently when she's untransformed, and once you get her Strikes to A and S, she'll be doing minimal damage, letting her get actual experience (I aim for about level 25~30 by the end of part 1 to put her in good shape when she comes back). On the other hand, if you can get her trained, she caps stats left and right; her growths are more or less on par with non-Laguz (on my first playthrough, JP Hard, she managed to cap every stat by 4-F-3 with minimal use of BExp and only 1 stat up item), and her mastery skill owns everything that doesn't have Grasp (Nihil), though she's not as godly as Tibarn or Naesala is. (Vize was also the only Laguz I brought to the final chapter other than Kurth and Ena.)

Well, I didn't train her all that much when I first got her, so it might become way too hard. BEXPing her would also waste those growths. Eh, I might end up with Nealuchi anyway.

And in the worst case scenario, there's still Naesala. (Worst case as in that I didn't want to use any of the royals... )
