Are we going to have this year the nominations and awards for the best *insert various categories here* like we did one or two years ago around December IIRC?

Just wondering, they were nice.

I made a minor attempt at resurrecting the FESS Awards back in January, which entailed asking the rest of the staff if they had made plans to bring it back for another year, or if they even wanted to at all. The basic response I received was that the previously held FESS Awards had been a complete disaster, and that when asked, most members either had no opinion or were against the idea of bringing the awards back for yet another year.

I'm still fond of the idea, mostly because I wasn't around the last time the awards were held. If enough members expressed an interest in them, I would be interested in helping with organizing the FESS Awards for 2008/2009, pending approval from the rest of the staff. (But if there isn't any renewed interest, I'd say that they're dead for now...)

For quite a few years, especially the last year we ran them, the FESSer Awards were a complete and total clusterfuck. They were a disaster, and more or less a popularity contest than anything that should have been taken remotely seriously. Not only that, but I remember I had to have Dale to finish up for me one year, because something or other I said made people think I was slanted, or biased, and I'd had enough.

You can TRY them if you want to... but to be completely, no-bullshit honest, I don't think it will be worth your time and headache.

Bringin the sexy back to Avatars!

I am the most quoted man on the entire board. If I had this much wit as a teenager, I would have gotten laid more in high school.

I think it could be fun if everyone was chill about it.

Maybe some attitude adjustment can be reflected in the award names?

stuff like masturdebater for the serious board *shot*

The reasons they haven't been held are twofold: one, because of what Bus said, two, because there was a general "meh" response to having them again all around.

If there's interest in doing a round and it's fairly widespread, it's cool, but I definitely suggest a light tone.

Hey what, I spent a lot of time counting the votes of that last clusterfuck. It wasn't THAT bad.

But the work that goes into it as a whole does not give enough excitement from the community in return, so they're somewhat useless.

Contrary to popular belief, Belgium is not remotely close to splitting up. And us Flemish are not violenceless fascists. What's wrong with sending the Walloon to free camps where they get plenty of excercise?

If you think they'll help with activity, why not?
