I'm not going to bullshit anyone: activity's down. A lot.

Because of this, some boards get a lot less face time than others. It's to the point where some threads that are really old are still on the first page of some forums. This has caused some threads to be necroposted in by well intended members.

These members have been summarily been disciplined (as in "watch the post date"), but the last straw for me was seeing multiple reports for one new person posting in a months-old thread. The thread was on the first page of the forum, but people still jumped on it like a monkey humping a football. "NECROPOST! NECROPOST! LOOK AT THIS EVERYONE IT'S A NECROPOST OH MY GOD I CAN SEE FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!". It seems like we have more people reporting necroposts in the Fire Emblem boards than we have people actually fucking posting! If people were a little less worried about being a tattle tale than they were about actually contributing meaningfully to topics, I think our activity would be up.

Therefore, I'm waiving the Necropost limit. I expect another administrator to edit the Manual to reflect this.

I no longer care how old the thread is. In the FE6 board, the last topic on the front page was last posted in in March. It's October. It's time to stop being stupid about a rule I initiated in 2004.

This topic is open for discussion.

It is about time someone did something about this bullshit. Glad you finally realized bus. Still we have something of a bigger issue; how the hell are we getting activity back up?

Well, I hope you guys will still moderate unconstructive necroposting (i.e. someone necroing a FEDS posting "I heard marth was going to be in fire emblem ds" would probably be relevant six months ago but not today).

We'd already decided to take a looser stance on necroposting in general prior to this (the issue's come up more than once), and we'd decided that shitposts would still be treated strictly.  Obviously, this is still in effect.  Shitposting is one of the main problem with thread necroposting, after all.

We'll see where this takes us. I am in support of the measure; I'm personally for seeing more important posts being reported than some of the shit that's been popping up in there.

Seems like a good measure. There were a lot of newbies posting constructive things and still being warned for it. It also means we won't have to keep our eyes on the last post date all the time.

It's a good idea indeed, especially for the older games' boards.

I was thinking of saying something about how "lol I agree" and meaningless bumps shouldn't be allowed, but... they're spam anyway, so it isn't like that can be done even in active threads, anyway.

However, it'd be good to leave it clear that some "within reason" clause is still in effect. I don't think you'd want somebody going all the way to page 8 of the Akatsuki no Megami board and bumping a thread from there, after all...

The truly meaningless posts, even before this, I was taking to deleting. I figure if someone can't figure out why their post is gone, they have bigger issues, but I also felt that a lot more useful than a bunch of moderators clusterfucking on one person who just didn't notice a date.

I'm probably going to keep that in effect for all posts; if someone even posts in a new thread "ya i agree lol", if I see it and it hasn't been monkey-fucked at that point, I'm just going to delete it. Saves a lot of fuss.

I'm going to post a bump to this, because some people don't pay attention, and proved my entire fucking point right.

See this post?? This would be a necropost in the old rules. New rules - which are announced above - state that there's no necropost anymore.

Doesn't stop someone from reporting the thread as a necro! Go fig, it was Aznswordmaster1. I wouldn't have made that known if it was anyone who's shown a better history of paying attention.

Let me make this clear: THIS BOARD IS MANTATORY READING. THAT MEANS WHEN THE BLOODY GUY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE SCREEN IS LIT, YOU CHECK THIS BOARD. THIS IS NOT NEGOTIABLE.

I swear to God. If we had as many people posting as tattling, we'd be in good shape.

My bad, I normally do see the Announcements but I didn't notice this one cause I didn't see Ike icon thing showing as new. Personally I can understand why people are getting frustrated with the necropost issue. Normally I wouldn't report things cause I honestly thought now one has noticed it this time around, and it normally gets handled. I'm not going to deny that I did report that by my mistake of not checking the Announcements carefully.

Mad Eaichu mentioned something about getting the activity back up, for me personally, I see a lot of new members that come and go in the sprite boards saying things, "OMG! thats awesome!" and comments similar to that and get warned for making comments like that and never come back. In my first years in FESS, I enjoyed going to the spriting board to sit and admire other members works, but with the rules of critiquing for improvement, I often couldn't say anything, unless I did notice something to critique on then I was able to lace it into my post. The one big thing I would like to say for the sprting board is for just a little more flexibility, which could improve some of the activity in that area. Lately I just sign in to see if there are anything new in the sprite board or art board cause none of the topics I see around in other sections gain my interest personally speaking. I do think that Fire Emblem is dying out in popularity in general, based on what I've seen in other Fire Emblem based boards. We all have to realize that FESS is not going to last forever, sure its a nice place to come and discuss topics that people want to talk about. I don't want to make my situation anymore worse as it is so I'm going to stop here, if the moderators and admins want to see this as flame, go ahead, I just want to say what I've been wanting to say for about the past 2 years but I couldn't find the right time to say it. So I'll leave it at that.

Nothing to fear, Teh Viroos is here!

But anyway, I'm here to give suggestions and go away again.

From my experience of forum inactivity(I'm part of a forum that is going inactive ), you gotta have something to bring people to you. Whether its Fire emblem, sotw, sprites, whatever, something has to stand out. Fire emblem is not doing so well, so the board goes a little more inactive, nothing to worry about. But in FESS' case, something happened. I think that the rules were too strict and the new board got people not into joining again. Sure, when there's 128390128309 people roaming around forums, rules have to be set in stone, and solid, but as it dies down, the rock should shift and bend a little.

The necropost removal was a good idea, a first step to "shifting the rock"
Also, the huge amount of boards has to be reduced.

And any still existing members have to post a LOT more, even if it is just spamming in the CD.

Uhh cant think of anything else, but if I think of it and think of FESS, I'll be back

Teh Viroos is off

Good change, I always thought in recent years it either needed to be made longer or removed.

I remember back when this place was flooded with new members when it was actually needed (I also remember seeing bans go out every day, good times, always love seeing Bus' reaction to idiots, assholes and/or trolls).

I had a feeling this would be coming soon, with all the locked topics and whatnot (more so that bit Superbus said about a post being an experiment of his). I guess we will need to see where this one goes, but it should bring a better change than a worse one.

Speaking of locked topics, will they remain locked or will they become unlocked? I am assuming they will stay that way since I believe the moderators are busy with other things. So I guess instead of unlocking them all, requests would be a better alternative?

Any topics previously locked will remain as such. Requesting for an unlock would be applicable, yes, provided that there is merit for reviving the topic in that manner (i.e. If it isn't to post something like "lol ya i agree"). Think of this as an alteration to the (semi-current) system of requesting permission to bump a topic that isn't already locked.

"About time" is all I really have to say on this, but since that would probably not do me any good...

I agree that general activity on all FE forums has gone down the drain. I never post outside of them here since I don't know the community here at all, and I'd really love some activity back there. But it seems you guys aren't very fond of debating, which is my favourite aspect of the game other than playing it.

I'm pretty sure that that one necro-post was mine, Bus.  If so, I'm one hell of a lucky idiot.  Look at all of the controversy it stirred up.  Thanks for giving me a chance though.
