My problem with NOA is incosistancy...

The Brawl trophy descriptions are full of errors due to them translating from Japanese but forgetting they changed the details when it came in America. Lyns age is the major one (Brawl trophy says 15 when in-game FE7 doesn't) as was the Black Knights Sword (they stuck with the Japanese name Ettrad which of course is Ikes personal Sword in FE10 ) and a minor one was misromasing Ashnards sword. It was a bit of a hamper on the Brawl experaince (as was it coming out ridiculously late in Europe...) you have this Nintendo fan service game which makes blunders which the fans you made it for will notice...

The FE7 Lyns age errors and FE8 Neimi calling Corm Cormag are caused by similar issues of changing something them forgotting to take it into account.

I'm glad they fixed the descriptions for the Spanish version... Alondite, Gugurant, and they don't mention Lyndis' age (she is described as a young nomad warrior).

I still fail to see how either of those constitutes a "catastrophe". A catastrophe would be the game crashing during one of the chapters, not a mismatched pointer for a character we already know about or a glitch that can not only be gotten around relatively easily (just delete all easy mode saves), but got a fix a couple months after release.

Kind of off-topic, but there is no mismatched pointer. They literally have Mist's profile text in Muarim's slot : P

Opinions aside, that'd be the dumbest thing they could do in terms of sales. Change Marth's name and all potential buyers that came to know him through SSBM/SSBB would ignore the game.
I was being sarcastic. All the oldbies (maybe not anymore) know me to be a translation purist, at least in terms of names.

IIRC, Ettard was indeed teh Black knight's personal Sword Fe9-wise, and Ike's personal FE10 sword being the actual Alondite. Misnomers are more than possible, though.

I did send someone who worked at NOE in localisation an e-mail...e-mail as in guessed the address and it didn't bounce...though I have no verification of them reading it (i'd imagine anything not on a trusted list to be junked ). Once (if) I get those trophies I should check it out between all the localisations...

Me bumping this topic...this time its Jeigan.

Ja? Nein! NEIN!!! I don't want to see what Musashi thinks of it seeing as he is the number 1 Jeigan fan on the board.

Fun facts, Jagen is a dutch verb, to hunt. It is also a family name. Its a good thing NOE weren't translating the legend of Zelda otherwise Ganon really would be Gannon...

If you type Jeigen into google its a "did you mean Jagen". If you type Jeigan of course you get fire emblem results.

That screenshot comes from the NOE game page...that reconfirms the box art.

All this said Jeigan is too well spread to die. I'm excited and in fear as for what the rest of the names be but don't worry come December 5th i'll be Warp staffing my way through the game to find out.

Edit: The armory screensoht has some debug lines on it :O

Jagen? Not bad I guess : P

I'm also guessing Medon is Macedonia? I never really paid attention to the earlygame enemies.

Jagen?! JAGEN!!? SOMEONE GET OUT THE PITCHFORKS!!!!

Actually, I don't think Jagen is that bad. I'll probably still call him Jeigan, since that's what I've been using for years now. Medon is kind of "ugh", though.

Jagen is pronounced nearly the same as Jeigan anyway.

I think "Caeda" is gonna take some getting used to for me...

What I think is, is if the names are read-able to me without really paying attention to it, I don't mind the translation.

Caeda=BAD translation
Jagen=Good, not great translation.

Marth will still be "Marth" though right? *Is making sure*

Yes, he's still Marth as far as I know. It would be very bad idea for NOA to change his name.

Does the fact that I'm not even going to pretend that the names have been changed make me an asshole?

An asshole? I don't know about that, but sticking to the older names will likely cause some confusion for those who never played the older games.

I'm with Superbus on ignoring the name changes.

But you know, 'Jagen' isn't really that bad. One of these days I used Google Translate to help me with some kanjis I didn't know in a fanart site; it was a text about Jeigan being Marth's protector and whatnot. Except that GTrans said that some dude called 'Jay Gunn' was Marth's protector...

That box looks pretty small to me. Would they have even been able to fit the missing E and R in with the rest of the text?

I was joking.  Text space does terrible things to names.

Also, notice how much better the official art looks when it's on an actual background and not just pure white.

Not too bad. Although, like Starwolf said, it's a Dutch word.

MARTH'S PROTECTOR, THE VETERAN KNIGHT TO HUNT

Now if they made it "jager", it would actually mean "hunter", now it's just a verb infinitive D:

realizes that it isn't an issue but thought it would be fun to mention
