I just now came to the realization that the reason they may have changed Macedonia to Medon is so that it would fit in text boxes.

Does the fact that I'm not even going to pretend that the names have been changed make me an asshole?
We might need a FAQ type thread with a table of names in so people don't get too confused.

I just now came to the realization that the reason they may have changed Macedonia to Medon is so that it would fit in text boxes.
Macedonia is also a real country...real localtions NOE renamed last time they appeared in FE. Laus, Bern and Silesia (though I think this one was sorted by NOA messing up the romanisation) spring to mind.

But you know, 'Jagen' isn't really that bad. One of these days I used Google Translate to help me with some kanjis I didn't know in a fanart site; it was a text about Jeigan being Marth's protector and whatnot. Except that GTrans said that some dude called 'Jay Gunn' was Marth's protector...
The Japanese fans mistranslations into Engrish can be cringe worthy at times. J-Gun is thrown about quite a bit but going more obscure you can find Tailtunn

MARTH'S PROTECTOR, THE VETERAN KNIGHT TO HUNT

Now if they made it "jager", it would actually mean "hunter", now it's just a verb infinitive D:
If only the game got a dutch trnalsaiton becuase the Hunter class would then be jager...Jagen jagen Jager...or something

I can understand it. After all, having a country in a game named "Mexico" or "Russia" is just as wierd.

Well, I'm glad there's no Dutch translation. Because we've hardly ever had movies dubbed (except for cartoons and children's movies) or games translated (again, except for children's games) everything sounds ultra-lame in Dutch.

My view on medon is simply a way to avoid European references and keep a fictional storyline as it is, fictional. The transition from Akanea-> Archanea is still fairly odd in my bopok, though.

I suppose we can say goodbye to Orleans then?

And have they shown what they're calling Khadain yet?

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and say "Garnef's Super Magical Fun-Time Illusion House."

If they changed Macedonia on the same grounds that they had changed Laus and Bern, then they'd probably change Altea and Orleans as well.

Anybody remember if they changed Crimea or Gallia in FE9 and 10? Those are real places in (or at least near) Europe.

I don't recall anything or at the very least the audio still said those names...the only FE10 changes I remember were:
Astra becoming Astrum
Sentinals becoming Lancers (my theory is computer games...Adders CO Power of Sidewinder in Advance Wars 2 became Snake Bit in the EU release...Microsoft had a PC controller called Sidewinder...sentinal is an old, old computer game...)
Light Priestess becoming High Priestess I think...I was expecting the Japanese name of Shaman so I might've misread the name and thought it said that)

There were a few more, but they're listed on SF so I'm not going to repeat them. None of them had anything to do with placenames, though.

They kept Light Priestess.

And there's a game called Lancer too. I doubt that's affecting them if they're irreverent (controller, for example) or really old.

The fun thing with calling Sentinels Lancers is that, in their mastery skill description, its says something like "The Sentinel attacks four times in a row" or something like that (If you want, I'll look up the exact quote). At least in the Spanish translation.

It does that for the English one too. I think the Black Knight's one is screwy too, but I'm unsure which versions it's like that in.

The NA version claims that he wields the skill Luna when his status screen says his special skill is Eclipse.

Wow that's a clear proof of the game skipping quality check.

I wouldn't go that far. The skills are the same for all intents and purposes (x3 or x5 doesn't really matter when negating enemy defense more or less garuntees the hit to kill...), so I don't think it's that big a deal.

As I told someone complaining about the Muarim description problem, I think issues with quality would be a class causing the game to lock up, or the whole thing crashing on one of the chapters. Simple typoes don't really matter in the grand scheme of things.

My evidence of skipped qulaity control is the FE9 transfer glitch. My only thought must be IS gave them some Japanese FE9 saves converted to US region in a slight brain-fart moment.

Script stuff is a shame but when Fire Emblem has so much script...I would like to think consistency has improved but when things get changed late-game (in the Japanese version both classes had Luna despite one of them being better, late on they might have thought to change the name).
