Hello, I am GDog2, and I'm pretty well known under many usernames on many forums. Anyway, I know how boring some of these introductory paragraphs can be, so I'll cut straight to the point.

I am a regular 18 year old male, and I have never played a Fire Emblem game. However, like many I would assume, I find myself interested via Super Smash Bros.

From what I've gathered, Marth is from the first 2, which were originally Japanese. Being incapable of speaking Japanese beyond Baka Gaijin (Which means "Stupid Foreigner," so I am told), I was wondering if there were any sorts of English-Language remakes for these 2 that I could pick up an old cart of somewhere. Preferably SNES, as my old SNES is still sitting around with my copy of NHLPA '93 sitting in it. However, I do know someone who is interested in selling an old NES so that could work as well.

I look forward to both hanging out in these forums and playing some Fire Emblem in the near future.

Do excuse me for having not fully read the rules as of yet, I will promise to get to it in the near future, and If anything I do in the meantime is against these rules, please inform me and I will look to delete it promptly.

1. Well, first one and third one, the second doesn't star Marth.
2. No, but FEDS is coming out in 2009 in NA and December '08 in Europe. Its a remake of FE 1

FE=Fire Emblem btw

Welcome! I am OtV! Have a good time here!

Welcome to FESS, read the rules, abide by the rules, and note that Tent made us sexy emotes

*offers virgin strawberry daiquiri*

Marth is from FE1 and FE3, and most recently FEDS/FE11; none have been released in English... yet. FEDS will be available this winter or so.

Ohoho, new blood.

Welcome Gdog2.  As has been mentioned, FE11 for the DS is a remake of the first game, starring Marth, which will be released in English sometime this winter.

But if you're looking to get your hands wet now, I recommend looking into FE7 (Fire Emblem in US).  It's for the GBA and it's the first game a lot of people around here got started, as is it was the first one released in English.

Oh. Come by #FESSchat on Serenia sometime, we're loads of fun.

Hello, Gdog2! Welcome to FESS! The first section of the rules is probably the most important, but do take the time to go back and read through the rest when you get a chance.

Like Pair of Ducks mentioned, I would also suggest playing FE7. It's just an all-around great game, and a nice way to get acquainted with the series.

Thank you for the warm welcome, and the advice. I will surely look to pick up the 7th one, but the upcoming remake will not happen, because I unfortunately do not own a Nintendo DS.

Awww, that's a shame.  I myself have hooked quite a few people into Fire Emblem on FE7; it's a great game and a great opening to the series.  As for the DS, hell, it's almost worth getting just for The World Ends With You, but not everyone's got the money.   (I got lucky - birthday present from a couple AWESOME friends.)

I played it in this order...

GBA - Fire Emblem (2003 English release)
GBA - Fuuin no Tsurugi (lit. "Sword of Seals"). There's an English patch for this, but you can't play it in English on a cart unless you get a Flash cart.
GBA - The Sacred Stones (released in English)
GC - Path of Radiance (released in English)
SNES - Seisen no Keifu (lit. Lineage/Genealogy of the Holy War). Like Fuuin no Tsurugi, there's also an English patch. You probably won't be able to get the cart for this anyway.
Wii - Radiant Dawn (English release). Sequel to Path of Radiance.

I would recommend, like everyone else, playing FE7 (Fire Emblem) first. You'll recognise Lyn in this game if you ever got her as an Assist Trophy. After, if you finish it, try The Sacred Stones of Path of Radiance for something different, and Radiant Dawn if you finished Path of Radiance.

For the Japanese Fire Emblems, try playing Fuuin no Tsurugi first. The gameplay will be very similar to the latter half of the series.

If you want something really different, try Seisen no Keifu, or anything else before that. These are the earlier games and will show you the series development as it goes along. Seisen no Keifu has a very unique system compared to the rest of the series, which you'll either love or hate (hopefully love).

Good luck playing the games (you'll need it; Fire Emblem is heavily based on luck and chance), and have fun.

Mandatory welcome and Mandatory reminder to enjoy yourself!

Everyone's pretty much said everything I'd say on Fire Emblem. Just a reminder, since this is something many new players don't realize: Try not to use promoted units too much in the beginning, and remember to always check if an enemy unit with a portrait is recruitable.

I killed them all off in my first playthrough D:

And I'd suggest he start with the SNES ones before he plays the GBA garbage FE's. But I dunno, maybe it's just me...

Hey, don't sweat it. I'm sure you heard this place is pretty strict, but overall the rules are quite easy to understand and follow. Heh, as long as you read it of course!

You know, there are "other" ways to play old NES/SNES games. They're less than legal, but truth be told, a number of us here have resorted to these "ways" in order to play some of these greater older titles of FE. HINT: READ THE RULES BEFORE RESPONDING TO THIS COMMENT!

GBA garbage FE's

You know, many prefer the GBA versions. Personal opinions aside, I'd hardly call the games garbage. Especially Fire Emblem 6 and 7 were great games. They're also  more simple in general gameplay which makes them perfect introductory games to the series.

Unfortunately, I have been much too busy lately to go shopping for FE games, I've got some projects and a reoccurring health problem as well as school. Of course, Like all things I will get to them eventually.

Hopefully, I won't clutter up Gdog's intro topic too much...

Actually, it's all a matter of personal opinion. In my eyes, the GBA line of FE games are si mply inferior to the SNES ones.

I don't know why but I really like you for some reason.

I find the best way to play FE is in the order the english ones came out:

1)Fire Emblem
2)FE:Sacred Stones
3)FE:Path of Radiance
4)FE:Radiant Dawn.

Why, thank you.

Right now I am doing so much work during the weeks that I just want to sleep all weekend. I will have to postpone my pursuits of Fire Emblem until a later date when I either care less about my works or there is less of it.

Hallo!

Welcome to FESS. You look like you've read the rules, so have a good time!

And as a welcome gift, I now present to you the score for Bela Bartok's The Miraculous Mandarin. Enjoy!
