I've been digging around the forums of Lost Levels ( www.lostlevels.org ) and on there is a link to download, among some other things, a very early Fire Emblem: Seima no Kouseki prototype. More or less the same deal as the Rekka no Ken prototypes - you get a ton of early maps, placeholder pictures and music, etc. etc. Since it's an even earlier proto there's even less than normal - no World Map sequences, none of the music that would be in the final..not even the Title screen is in place (It has the Rekka no Ken title as a placeholder.) Thread set up for anyone who wants to discuss it.

This is actually pretty amusing. Eirika's early battlesprite looks pretty awesome, only a bit amateuristic and the animation is very ... rusty, in a way. Still, it's fun playing against bosses who are almost all named "evil".
EDIT: The old Moulder looks way too much like a rapist.

Nice find : o
If nobody else gets around to it, I'll upload a patch.
A couple of the face sprites surprised me, such as what seems to be a Dancer version of Neimi o__o

Are there any more facesprites after Ross, Moulder, Dorcas and Vanessa? Because all the new characters for the two chapter after that didn't have any. Though they're probably just hidden somewhere in the code.

On the note of a patch: We went through this before with the Rekka protos, and it wasn't pretty.
A patch would be nearly as large as the ROM itself, would take forever to apply, and in the end is really just the old ROM's code in a different format. It'd be pointless.
Therefore, I'd recommend against it. It's not gonna be any more or less illegal/convenient/whatever your beef with just DLing the ROM over going through this patch-hassle, to just obtain the ROM itself.

Did my post just get completely and utterly ignored?
That IPS file is larger than the RARed up ROM download.

But ROMs can't be posted here, which still makes this more convenient for most people.

Besides, I don't really see the problem with it. If there are people who just want to download the patch, then why shouldn't we upload it? >_>

Sorry, I have my reasons for linking to a patch version, which the above posters pretty much summed up. However, I was kind of in a hurry so I didn't explain myself.
Anyway, I'm not too sure what to look into so I'll rush through the story.
I noticed that in Chapter 6, the Grado soldiers kill the civilians in front of Eirika's eyes (instead of feeding them to monsters). Also, it uses the Chapter 11 Eirika map. During the end, Saleh appears to critical the boss (I'm assuming if you didn't yourself, since it's a survival chapter).

Interesting. Kyle's sprite is very different. Could we see more of the different face sprites, please?

Interesting...this must mean the FTP was broken into after FE7 was out...or that FE8 was started before FE7 was out. Just a very quick one. Different Erika Sprites: Also for being very early in stage quite a few maps are familiar: It might not be clear with that map but generally basic composition is the same but details are changed. I noticed that in Chapter 6, the Grado soldiers kill the civilians in front of Eirika's eyes (instead of feeding them to monsters).
Are there any Monster classes yet? Yes, there are I just found the tower. In other news that sound source code stuff talked about a few months back has also been released. Most of it seems to be in formats I can't reconise but i'll give the stuff a listen sometime.

Well, at least we know where the (really) early screenshots of Eirika's old battle and face sprites from forever ago came from now...
As for the map, the changes are very subtle. There may be a few tile changes (which could be a result of the difference in the tileset), but the layout is near identical.

I did that thing where I shut the browser down without hitting reply so I'll be quick. Yeah you don't want to see the lnog version It seems there was going to be more of a tutorial to Chapters 1-8. Chapter 8 introduces the promotion tutorial with poor old Kyle being Mr. I'm forced to be promoted (like we need another Paladin could always go with Great Knight instead tohugh...). As a result Forde is now a pre-promote... Why do Horsemen always start with crappy stats And appologies if I got Kyle and Forde mixed upLooking at the FE7 music source there is some FE8 material. Insturment sounds, music macro libary sound effects make up the bulk along with programming related bits. As far as midis go for FE8. There are 4. The battle theme, 2 staff themes and a map theme. I might be imagining things but the map theme is slightly different. I've attached the midis for you to listen though. They were found in a director called mura. This most likely refers to Yoshihiko Kitamura who did sound composition for the game (along with Saki Haruyamu and Yoshito Hirano. Yuka Tsujiyoko only supervised) More of the soundtrack must have been ready or planned since the guitar strum heared at the start of the Gardo General battle theme is one of the recorded instrument sounds. To end on a weird note I also noticed a midi version of New Bark Town from Pokemon GS in the directory that had most of the programs :S It was a possibly a test tune of sorts (keeping it in the family, I remember the makers of Die Hard Vendetta sent a sound debug version of the game over to their legal department to check for legal issues was sound and music and they left the test song in which was the Muppets Theme Song...safe to say that didn't pass being legal )

Interesting... it actually looks like they intended Kyle to be the red knight and Forde to be the green one, going by how the red one is serious-looking and the green one looks a bit like Forde... Would make sense I guess, considering Franz is a light green color and is supposed to be Forde's younger brother.

That is Forde in the screenshot, but I don't think the red/green archetypes extend to Forest Knights ugh, those stats!
I guess I'll take a look in a little while, since I rather preferred proto-Eirique's face sprite and all... and Neimi and Tana look so much better in the proto hair colours, though I wonder why Tana started off with Lachelle's outfit.

So it looks like we werent going to have our Kain and Abel duo as cavaliers originally? I guess Forde matured a little bit and decided against being a spiky haired crazy artist XP While we... I guess Kyle was completely changed over... so the two wouldnt look to similar I reckon
Neimi's change was also pretty drastic...cant say which version I like more though
