Just a reminder that at 12AM EST, we're stopping posting. Keep in mind that there's a last-post-wins contest going on in the CD.

I just wanted to say a few things...

Well, I joined FESS quite a long time ago; I remember it was shortly after the move to FESS2, but I don't remember how shortly.  I had been lurking around FESS for information and looking at the sprites, and after I decided to try my own hand at spriting, I finally decided to join.

I made the same blunder as Kel'Thuzad;  even though I was definitely 13 or 14 at the time, I think I accidentally clicked on the wrong option, and a few weeks later I was banned for violating COPPA.  Whoops.  Superbus gave me a reply along the lines of "if you can't click the right button, we don't want you here."  xD

Well, I continued to lurk around FESS for a while, and I rejoined in 2005 sometime, I think.  While I've been a pretty dedicated lurker, I was never particularly involved with the community, which is my biggest FESS-related regret.  Somehow or another (really, neither of us could remember how, exactly...), I became pretty good friends with Cheesecake Mage, but for a long time I didn't really know anyone around here; or more accurately, since I was a creep lurker, they didn't know me.

I think my first big involvement was the RPs I tried running in 2006 ... which, after ridiculous amounts of work on class systems, backstory, ect.  I always failed to maintain...  and to this day I still get some dirty glares for this >_> (CrazyDitto, Spade, Evil Monkey, Black Mamba [who will probably never read this] I'M SO SORRY).  There was also Pferno's RP, Legend of the Lightbringer, which was probably responsible for my continued presence of FESS for a long time, and I got to know Pferno, Leftylink, and Denma (Or Den Mow, if you will) fairly well.

After my involvement in the RP board ended, I kind of disappeared from FESS for a while, though I'd come back to post in the CD once in a while ... and I didn't really get involved in the community proper until relatively recently this year, which is certainly a shame.  But not all too bad, because I think nearly everyone I've met that I care about I'll be in touch with.  And I encourage everyone that 'doesn't suck' to come around the ashtray

(hear that, Evil Monkey?  Come around theashtray, even if it's just to say hi to me   )

So, while I'm really sad to see FESS go, I'm glad we can get this gigantic rotting whale off  's back, and move on.

Hey, that brings up a question I never felt like asking -- considering I was banned on that account, wasn't I subject for banning when I joined FESS2?

IIRC Amnesty was given to those banned from FESS1, except for a few.

Just in time to say my goodbye to FESS.

I originally joined on FESS2 to ask for help regarding the French translation of FE4 (which never got done. ). After that, I started to become a very dedicated lurker until I got interested in spriting. I then started to post (on an annual basis) in the Sprites and FE4 section.

I actually foresaw that this day would come. I even tried posting some media, thinking it would interest the community a little I know it failed terribly.

I think I joined SF two months ago, so I'll start posting there a little. And I'll try to lurk on the Ashtray because even if you don't know me, I really love you, people~

See you around!

Well, I kinda wish I'd been more active in the last couple of years, therefore, most of the really old members would know me, so very few of the bulk of you guys.

I joined FESS in early 2002 around the time I got an actual cart of FE6 (and everyone was playing Roy and Marth in SSBM). it was the first incarnation, run by TF and Captamazai (sp?), and a very small community back then. FE was still obscure if not unheard of, mostly. I got to know a lot of the old regulars, and was eventually asked to be one of the forum mods, which I gladly took given the amount of time I spent in there. Between the forums and the friends I made, I moved onto other FEs (the older ones as well as Rekka/7), I didn't really run RPs (but I took part) or make sprites or whatnot, I mainly did modding, took part in a lot of chats, posted some FE news, and tried some translations, not that it worked out so well. My Japanese is much better than it has ever been, but still a ways to go. I was kind of known for the love of the Lyn/Rath and Noah/Fir pairings, maybe a bit too much. Oops.

When FE started coming here, I was excited. I was one of the first to play English Rekka's demo back at E3, I remember the Nintendo rep being surprised at how well I knew the series. I gave impressions of the demo. I knew that FE coming here would bring in WAY more members, which it did, but I stuck on, or vowed to since I'd already been there from the almost-beginning.

And I did.. for a while. My modly duties dropped off, so when Bus demoted me I didn't argue. I felt bad nonetheless.  Eventually it got even bigger and moved one or two times and I kinda disappeared altogether after the third or fourth. Real life aka work, school and other things didn't help really. And hell, I didn't even register for this version of the forum until today to say goodbye. Some of the drama may have kept me away a little, but mostly, I just got busy.

And even if I haven't literally posted in forever, I'll still remember all the fun, which for me outweighed the not-so-fun. I met tons of great people here back in the day, including Bus, many of which I still talk to, and others... not so much, but I hope they're doing well. You guys outweigh the KillerShivas and Juigis of the world, heh.

I wish I had time ot look through this whole thread for some familiar faces, but I don't. I run the FE community at LiveJournal, which could use posts other than ads for multifandom RPs. =P Once I have more time to play and catch up on FE, I might join SF, likely under this name. It's going to be weird without an FESS, though.

That's all, I guess. Ciao.

This is my last chance to post here on FESS, so...I just want to reiterate:

Thank you.  Thank you to everyone who made FESS, who ran FESS, who posted, lurked, sprited, hacked, drew, wrote, debated, and overall made FESS the greatest of internet communities.  We did a damn good job for six and a half years and no one can say otherwise.

It's been...amazing.  I'll miss this place.

...goodbye.

This is, I think, one of the longest posts I've ever typed here on FESS. It is only appropriate that my final (major) post be in commemoration of the boards and my time here.

-------------------

@RPG Greg, in response to the Zetaboards - I was just saying that there are boards that have Zetaboards now. So, since they've been released, IF should at least be able to look into Bus's support ticket. (I wasn't suggesting that they convert FESS2 to Zetaboards with whatever backup they might have.)

-------------------

I guess it's about that time, isn't it? On top of work, I've been wracking my brain since Friday, trying to put my thoughts into words. As the days have gone by since the announcement was made, it's slowly been hitting me harder each successive day that come tonight, the community I've been a part of for three and a half years won't be a functional community anymore. No longer will I be able to browse the boards, interact in discussion with (as a majority) the group of people that I'm used to seeing basically day in and day out online, or have the atmosphere that I've been a part of since May '05. Sure, I'll still be around on Serenes Forest, in FESSChat (and various other channels), and on AIM (for those that I talk to), but it just won't feel the same. Maybe it's just the fact that I'm starting to feel nostalgic about my time here in the past, since there is no future to look ahead to here. I haven't been through as much as 'Bus or others, but it's enough to cause the wave of old times to hit me, especially this week. In a sad way, I can kind of understand where Zephyr was coming from when he mention that (paraphrased) this wasn't FESS anymore. To him, FESS as he knew it had died, and now that FESS really is closing down, I can kind of feel the same thing, in concept. Without FESS, even in its declining state, my life won't really be the same as it was even a year ago. It's going to be tricky to get used to not typing the URL into Firefox when I get online anymore, even though I'll still be around in the fandom. With the wave of nostalgia hitting me, bringing back memories from times when Sword Saint was still a moderator, it's time for my personal dedications. You'll have to excuse me if you're not on the list explicitly, because it's entirely probable that I missed someone. Otherwise, you'll get covered near the end. Without any further ado:

DMAJohnson - Dale, I'd first like to say that it was a pleasure to work with you, both as a moderator and an administrator, as well as having been around for your administration in general. Despite the politicking that went on, I'd like to think that you handled things quite well. You introduced, arguably, the best iteration of the FESS Website (regardless of what others may say), introduced several new features (which, sadly, didn't stick around overly too long), and even revamped my "home" of the Sprites board, all for the better. Even though you steadily drifted away after The Incident II, I don't think FESS would have reached its peak during the early part of FESS4 without your involvement. While I can't say that we ever got to be extremely friendly, I do hope I'll see you around on LJ and such still. Oh, and, one last thing. Thanks for noticing me and offering me this chance to be a part of FESS's broad history. Without you and the rest of the staff at the time, I doubt I'd be as "wise" and constructive as I am right now.

Twilkitri - For a bot, you were all right. (XD) That aside, it was an honor to get to know you, even in the limited capacity that is FESSChat. I don't think I'll ever forget the frequent "It's spelled godmoding." scripted kicks or Cyas telling you to insert the bins. Ah, those were the days. Anyway, thanks for all of the great memories.

CO Raptor - I'm actually at a loss of words to say here. It was great getting to know you, as a fellow spriter, fellow RPer, and chatter. Your sprites gave me something to look up to as a blossoming adventurer in the field, and suffice to say, I still have some of them archived for reference. (If only you had made one last Mecha General...) So, thanks for all of the laughs, good times, discussions, critiques, and the like. I hope I'll still see you around LJ, at least on occasion.

Willfor - A lot of what I said to CO applies to you as well. Though, in your case, it's more about RPs than anything else. I'd like to think that I at least got some guidance of being a slightly better RPer from my time around you, given your expertise in the subject (Is it sad that I remember when you were the moderator that focused on that section?). As I said in your retirement topic, I'm grateful for all of the insight you brought with you to discussions about staff topics and I'm sure that, like with Dale, FESS wouldn't have been what it was without you here.

Musashi - I can't really say much, since we never really talked too much. You've always been level-headed and addressed situations with composure and wisdom. I can only say that I'm honored to have been promoted to Moderator alongside you, forever and ever ago. No need for a "I hope I'll still see you around," consider that we'll both still see each other over on SF.

Ice Dragon and Black Dragon - I'll address both of you as a pair, since it's been customary to do so for a while. First off, I have to thank the both of you for giving me inspiration and a purpose in terms of my spriting. If not for your superior skills, I may not have had as much to look up to and strive to become. For your valuable comments, criticism, and expertise, I will never forget all that you've done for me. It's a shame that we likely won't meet again after this, but I'll try to carry on your legacy of spriting knowledge (including the obligatory Anna!"Expound?" image.). If you happen to run into me somewhere on the vast internet, give a shout out to me. (An aside to BD only: I'll keep the personal face sprite in (variable) use until I give up on the series. It's become an iconic avatar for me now, which is something I can only say for one other avatar - the one I'm using at the moment.)

MageKnight404 - I wanted to save this one for later, but it fits better here. It sure has been a fun ride. I'm not quite sure what drove me to join Worlds Collide those many moons ago, but I'm glad that I did. If I hadn't I wouldn't have gotten to know you or a bunch of others, and we likely may not have been able to continually bounce ideas off of one another. I remember when I first got on IRC to join WCRP's channel, per Yuri's request. And, I'm glad that I did, especially once I was shown the wonders of mIRC instead of the silly Java Chat link. Though WC is now gone (and your dream of having the first finished RP on FESS gone as well), you know that I'll still be around. I can't say that I didn't doubt your ability as a moderator when you were first brought up, because part of me did. Given the situation we were in a the time and what Bus had said as his opinion, I wasn't too sure that you'd have the force to be a successful moderator. I knew you already had the will and wisdom, but I'm glad that I was wrong about your ability. You've been a great addition to the team, even if it was only for a short while.

To any other staff member(barring the administrators) that I've had the pleasure of working with or knowing - You guys have been as much a part of my experience here as anyone else. From the day that I set foot here, the tone and setting of FESS compelled me to stay. That's been the case since then, and it will be the case until the very last millisecond that FESS remains open. I thank all of you, ranging from Seti to rhombus to GTF to whoever else isn't here anymore (or is in hiding), for making me stick around.

Clive Winslett - Along with everyone else from WCRP, it was great to have met you here. Fun times were had across the RP board, even in Yuri's Arena. I'll never be able to spell the second half of your one usename (Vincent K.), because, to this day, I still can't. (XD) And, the Green Biker Dude will forever be remembered anytime I play Mega Man X2. We'll still be seeing each other around.

Rylo - As with Clive, it was great to have met you too. I doubt I'd have some of the IRC scripts that I do if we hadn't both been in WCRP. It was also a pleasure to have been vet'd alongside you back on FESS4. Hopefully, we'll still see each other around.

Miskantdhur - My (former) fellow spriter, it was a pleasure. At times, I feel we may have had something of a rivalry going, but it definitely helped us both out. I likely won't run into you again, so it was great to have had a fellow RPer and spriter who could help further my skills. It was certainly a pleasure.

Yuri - You probably won't see this anyway, so I'll keep it short. (Or maybe not. You better finish that post before tonight. I don't want my name to be the last thing in the post. >_>) Of everyone on FESS, I'd say that we got to be the closest of friends, at least until your parents intervened and went spastic. I'll be sticking around the same place, and you know how to get a hold of me. Even if the hope is grim, I expect to see you around some time or another.

(Not to skimp on details, but lack of time and a failing train of thought is limiting my ability to keep typing. As such, I'll just list most of the rest of the people on my list.)

Mow Yun, Darkslime, TheEnd, VincentASM, NTG, Chopstick, Eaichu, & Cyas - Thanks for making FESS what it was for me, guys. I'll likely see some of you elsewhere.

To all of the spriters and members of the RP board (especially those who were in WCRP and MotSD) - I'd like to thank everyone that's made this part of my internet life what it was. From all of the critiques to walls of text in RPs, thanks for a fun ride.

Blacky Wacky - ...We may not have agreed on a lot of things and there were obvious times when we probably hated each other's guts. That may not change in the future, but I can't deny that you didn't bring about some drastic changes to FESS over time. I likely won't be joining The Ashtray any time soon, unless someone overly convinces me to do it.

All of the other members of FESS - I hope that I was a fair moderator and administrator in my time here at FESS. I know I probably wasn't the greatest person from time to time, depending on the situation, but know that I've always had FESS's best interest in mind (ignoring my thoughts on not taking root). For those that I'll see over at SF, expect the same thing. Everyone else, I wish you guys good luck in your (internet) future.

-------------------

Togieduo - Jack, I can only reiterate what I said in your retirement topic. It was an enormous pleasure working with you, getting to know you, and even chatting and working on projects together. Taking up your mantle when you first retired was something that I never really expected to happen, and to your dismay, I'm actually kind of glad that you had to step back into the shoes of helping run the community. I had always kind of envisioned that we'd end up working together, since you had been here forever to begin with. (:]) Perhaps it was fate that the Incident II happened. Maybe it was just dumb luck that you wanted to come back. Regardless, I'm honored that I got to work along side you. You better keep in touch, you hear? I know you're busy, but AIM and LJ are calling you... (And, if Chris seriously does make you come to the States for his wedding, I am so meeting you somewhere, at least for part of a day.)

Sword Saint - Steve, while I never really did get to know you that well, per se, I still consider it a privilege to have been here and been on your staff. As I said, I still remember when I was the stereotypical "n00b" and you and Jack were already both administrators. Heck, part of me wants to say that you were the first person to have warned me around when I first joined for accidentally necroposting or something. I will always have memories of "early" (since it was around for a little while before I joined) FESSChat and all of the antics that went on that I'm sure you remember too. People may criticise you for your time as root, and even though the circumstances were no where near as bad as with Dale, I still think that there were other issues that were more of a cause than you. (Namely untimely events, such as Velthomer getting snapped up, our (overly) quick move to FESS5 (IMO), etc.) I'll still hang around FESSChat until you close the doors. Someone's got to help keep an eye on the place.

Superbus - Chris, what can I say? If there's one member that had the most influence over me as a member, it would have to be you. From the moment I joined up, I came to appreciate your style of running the place. In part, I'd say it's what made me actually care about the upkeep of the boards. At the time, FESS was amok with members causing trouble and getting banned left and right. Seeing you handle those "messes" gave me interest in taking up the same passion for the wellbeing of FESS. While I never actually expected to get promoted to Moderator, I won't deny that I secretly hoped that it might happen. I seem to remember you saying once that part of your purpose was to foster the members and bring them into fruition of what they should become (it might not have been phrased exactly that way, but that's besides the point). From my position, I know understand what you meant by that. And, until I hang up my trusty Banhammer™ for good, I think I now share something else with you: the purpose of "educating" members to bring about their potential. I still don't think that I completely lived up to my own potential of what I needed to do for FESS, but I can only hope that I've done a satisfactory job over the two years that I've been staff. I doubt that this will be the last we see of each other, especially since you post on LJ quite a bit.

With that, I raise my (imaginary) glass as a (figurative) toast. To Chris, for his commemorative service to FESS over these many years (and even turning down sex to take up a call to protect the boards) and for keeping FESS around for all of us to enjoy. Also, a toast to my fellow staff members, past and present, for following through on their duties to make FESS what it came to be known for. Finally, a toast to the members, for allowing FESS to become a community. Without the members, FESS wouldn't have had errors left and right on Proboards, prompting the initial move to FESS2. Cheers, everyone!

-------------------

And, with that, I bid my formal farewell to FESS. I want to thank everyone that's given me a shoutout so far in the thread. I hope that my comments and posts over the years have been a positive influence in some shape or form, be it in being a more confident spriter or fostering further discussion over some kind of topic like the reasoning for returning characters in FE10. She's run the gauntlet, and now it's time for her to close up. May she rest in peace.

...yeah. I remember getting something like that same sort of response to my similar request. Oh what the hell, I might as well leave something here for posterity, even if it's all been said before.

FESS was far from my first forum, and was my second Fire Emblem forum. I originally joined FEP as booger_face, but they crashed or moved or something. FESS had consistently popped up on Google searches, so I figured it was finally time to break down and join up. I was, I think, 15 at the time. Early-mid FESS2, leastaways. As some of you might recall, I acted, uh, differently from how I do now, and I remember one or two tiffs breaking out regarding that subject. Despite that, I really enjoyed coming here, and I especially loved discussing things like Sacred Stones before it was released in the States. (I remember raging over Cougar becoming Cormag).

Actually, until recently, I've been more of a lurker than anything else. After FESS2, I didn't post a lot, and I even left for a good while. I recall a few members being shocked when I made this one post in the CD on FESS3. (Which touched me, to some degree). When FESS5 finally rolled around, though, something finally convinced me to become more active again. I went back into FESSchat, which I used to frequent back in the days of Twilkitri, Willfor and Tent (the latter of whom I harrassed so much he threatened to have me banned). Needless to say, a few years later, #fesschat had become a very different place, but I think it was far more entertaining than it was "back then." I remember the encounters with Sakura, which so conveniently happened to coincide with oldbies like Yuri and Eaichu popping in to say hi.

Despite my relative inactivity over the years (not for FESS5. 700-plus posts isn't lurking), it has always been my favorite Internet community. It's the only forum that has helped advance me as an indvidual, and I attribute that largely to Superbus, Blacky Wacky and Sword Saint, and for that I feel I owe FESS a lot. I'll miss FESS more than I'd care to admit, even if mostly everybody will be on either the Ashtray or Serenes Forest. In my mind, FESS transcends its memberbase and has become an entity in and of itself, and that's what I'll be hard-up about when it finally closes its doors. I'll feel strange come tomorrow, when I don't start off typing forums.grandbell.net in my browser.

Thank you, everyone, for giving me an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. I will always look back at my time on FESS fondly.

My post earlier was pretty halfassed, so I'll make another halfassed post to make it whole.  I REALLY don't say much anymore so here goes.

I joined on FESS2 as Raven the Mercenary in December 2005 (a month after I turned 13) and settled in for about a month.  From there on, I would be off and on again as far as activity goes, just because FESS didn't quite click...  yet.  I still read posts though, and found Superbus to be the most interesting poster ever; I found many of his posts to be helpful and, to this day, hold some of the stuff he's said close to me.

FESS, as a whole, has gradually changed me as an individual over three years.  It's basically taught me how not to be a dumbass in real life and on the internet, and I've definitely gained a lot of knowledge about stuff since I've joined.  Not much more to say here really.  There have been good times, good laughs, and some intense drama over the past couple years, and about halfway into FESS4's life, I finally became fully active.

Really...  there are about four and a half hours left in a forum I came to quite a bit over the last couple years.  It makes me feel regretful that I didn't post more on FESS5 - I guess I just didn't feel a need to post, because what I've wanted to post was covered already or I just didn't have much to say, feeling it was a waste to post if I didn't.  I also felt too tired/worn-out to make some discussion-sparking topics in the FE boards, so they could at least have more activity, but it's too late now; sorry guys

I never thought I'd see FESS go down completely though.  I thought it would fight until the end, but in the end it's better it goes down like this; a place like FESS does not deserve to slowly rot.

Shout outs?  Too many people to list.  I'd be missing many if I made a list, but I'll go for it anyway - Iceland, KeyLimePie, Fox, ZephyrShakuraus, iced saltine, Celice, Jedor, Holyn, Refia, Sword Saint, Twilkitri, Togieduo, MageKnight404, Hurricane, Lord Glenn, YokaiKnight, Mekkah, Bobo, quanta, Neofox, Rylo, Superbus...  gah I really want to post this.   Pretty much anyone who I've talked to in the past couple years on FESS goes on this list, be it on chat or whatever.  You all contributed to my experience here, no matter how small, and I'll definitely cherish the memories.

I'm aliiiiiiiiive

Wow, it's hard to imagine that FESS is closing..!! It's been a long...saga, and I even remember joking once upon a time about an FESS 500 or something. Too bad that won't come true.

Anyways, I know I wasn't active at all on these forums (well, I used to be, except only on FESSChat), and people probably forgot about me or don't even know I exist (!!), but thanks for all the fun! I still recognize 90% of the people posting on this thread, so that must say something!

REST IN PEACE LOVELY FESS My smiley is still here WUT.

I was here a far shorter time than most of you guys. So here's my story.

UchihaHunter unwittingly got me interested in FE on another board he went to where I also frequented at the time. So on about Feburary or March of 2007, I got stuck when I was a total n00b at FE4 and went searching for a way to beat Arion(with just Celice). I stumbled across FESS2 and came across plenty of interesting posts on there.  I also came across FESS1 and Gunlord's history of this site around this time. Needless to say, that history and one his posts regarding Beowulf(he was countering claims made by Fia) made respect him greatly. I finally joined FESS on June 11, 2007. I didn't post much. I pretty much jumped on any FE4 topic that came about, especially since I became ridiculously good a S-ranking that game(i.e with no Holsety and inferior pairings).
Sometimes I had the desire to ask permission to necropost, but I was 'intimidated', so yeah, I was eventually going to take advantage of the necropost rule, but yeah, this forum is closing down.

Togieduo - you may not like debating, but you were impressive in that thread on FESS4 in the debate with that guy who claimed Levin was the only father for Fury. You were a very classy admin as well.
Twilkitri - Many thanks for working on the j2e patch for FE4 and dedicating your time to moderating this forum in the past.
EXPANSIVEFIGHTER: I made a few statements that were out of line.
Blacky Wacky - I respect your brains, but can only merely tolerate your attitude.
Kudos to Mekkah, Sir GTF, and any others I may have missed.

Also, I'm a Mozart fanboy, so here's some sendoff music for y'all:

Again, I really think it's a shame this forum is closing down, especially since it appeared to be on the upswing to me with the launch of the site and release of FEDS in Europe.

Also, just for the record I'm a CHINESE GUY.
