I've... been pretty much non-active for a very long time now, however I felt that I wanted to give my cheers to FESS before it was too late. FESS practically introduced me to internet communities so I must say I am a little sad to see it go.

So... Thanks for the time (when I actually visited the forum daily).

I've hardly been active and I honestly haven't actually made any good posts on this forum but for the time I have been here i have always liked the community and the intelligence level that seems non-existent on any other forum I have ever been to.  I do say goodbye to FESS and wish everyone a good day.

I guess I'll be a lurker on said Ashtray when that starts up and join Serenes Forrest too.

I found this site sometime during my junior year of high school... somewhere around late 2003-early 2004.  I joined in 2004, and now I'm in my senior year of college.  Time really does fly, doesn't it?

When I was most active here, I remember amusing some people with some cheaply-animated GIFs that had random FE characters spitting out dialogue from Monty Python and the Holy Grail.  I remember posting several pieces of crap stories in a topic I didn't think would last as long as it did, Random Short Stuff (for the record, I have both the GIFs I made and the stories I wrote on my harddrive still).  I even had a brief run as a lieutenant of the Fanfiction board, though to this day I don't know how successful I was in that post.

But that's not the point.

The point is, this is the place that got me to start my Internet life even if I spend most of it as a hermit.  Posting almost regularly in Random Short Stuff gave me a writing routine of sorts, and the skill in just writing a short story has transferred to my biggest writing project yet.  I met my Internet twin (she knows who she is), met a few other penpals--Superbus among them--and, to quote someone else, one of the most endearing friends ever (and he knows who he is).  I know I basically stopped posting after leaving my Lieutenant post, but I still checked in on things as big-time lurker.  For whatever reason, no other forum's kept me coming back like this one (this one got me to join, which is a feat in itself).  Honestly... it's kind of hard to think of FESS shutting down for good, but as another said, at least it's not to something destructive.  It's just had its run, it was good, and we'll all find our way from here on out.

I'll always treasure the time I spent here, even if I never posted much.  So... here's to FESS.  Erm, just pretend I'm holding up a glass of juice, or wine, or some other beverage that may or may not be spiked.  ;;

Everyone I talk to on the internet was a direct result of being introduced to them by either FESS, or someone from FESS, or someone I met through someone I met at FESS. It pretty much speaks for itself.

I already said my long goodbyes in my retirement thread, so I hope no one was expecting something tl;dr from me. I am likely not joining any new internet forums for a little while, but I will eventually see you all again. Sometime.

Well, I haven't been active here as of late, but I think I'll echo most people's sentiments. FESS was a rather big deal for me. I was very active here when I first joined on October 28 of my 8th grade year. I'm a junior now, and it's been fun. I've met a lot of awesome people, and still talk to a lot of them in a few IRC channels. Over the years, many of them have left, and I've been sad. I've visited FESS fairly infrequently, mostly checking up on the RPs that I'm in. There were times when I was incredibly frustrated with FESS for a variety of reasons, but when it all came down to it, I really liked this place. I'll be sad to see it go.

But, in a way, I'm also happy. Really, I liked this place too much (and have too many fond memories of its past days) to see it just slowly die. It always pained me to see this forum so inactive, since I would constantly be reminded of everything that it used to be. While I still like it today and don't regret joining it at all, I'm glad that it's being shut down as opposed to simply crumbling away to nothing. I would much rather see it go out in a bang in one last "reunion" of types than to just see it waste away and fall off the internet with no formal "goodbye."

So, goodbye FESS. (On another note, I'll probably see most of you at The Ashtray and SF - I will likely lurk at both. Also, I'll probably still see many of you in IRC. Regardless, it still feels sentimental to leave this forum behind.)

FESS was the single most important community in my internet life. It wasn't the first (that'd be IBWF), it wasn't the biggest (lRO and its number of reincarnations/wipes), but it was the one where I was the most active, the place where I made the most links. It's kind of sad to see it go like this, but it can't be helped; Bus can't handle it anymore, he hasn't found a successor, and the activity has gone terribly down.

I joined FESS a long time ago, a few months before the end of FESS1 I think. May, 200X, of god knows how long ago. In all this time, I met a few trolls (lol Tedius), some retards (mostly temporary), some crossdressers, a few rivals and a bunch of friends. I didn't go as far as Bus himself, who pretty much got a wife out of here, but well... I'm stealing her anyway. FESS was quite awesome, even when there was drama.

Rest in peace.

I thought of writing something bigger, but I suck at making walls of text. They tend to end up being stupid and redundant, so I guess I'll steal TheEnd's post just like old times.

Yeah, I haven't been active in forever, and I was never truly active on the forums in the first place -- I was always behind the scenes.

But I've made and kept some amazing people from here, and those friendships mean that FESS will never die in the way that's most important. In the interim, I say goodbye to FESS itself -- not with tears but with a smile, for the people that made this place what it was.

i c wut u did thar

Anyhow, I'm glad to see some of the oldies paying their respects. What I wouldn't give to see people like Iris, Shoen, Summerwolf, Paola, Gunlord, etc come in and say something too.

I can do without Gunlord's bragging. I think the only reason he doesn't come by is becuase he's afraid of Blacky Wacky or I "hacking" him.

Honestly? I don't mind it that way.

Every time I come back and read this topic I keep thinking I haven't done FESS justice and made a longer post.

It's been a little over 4 years, and I dare to say that 90% of everyone I know online is directly through FESS. Even though its going to be behind all of us, there's always going to be that one nagging thought in my mind going "What if? What would have happened (or will happen) if 'bus kept FESS going for at least until a little after FEDS releases outside of Japan?"

Still know that they're just thoughts, though. It would cheapen the atmosphere if he suddenly changed his mind, though.

Can't see where I'm going from here, though. Progress was a little slow on my guide due to the uncertainty of how I was going to do it, along with my hatred of DS emulation. I guess I might put that away as well as FEDS was the only tie holding me to FE now, and it's growing thinner each day. I might lurk at SF, but I'm very picky about the boards I post in, so I doubt I'll end up contributing anything.

Still remember those days with Tent and Dark Millenia in the CD, also my first member title, Gunlord's Disciple : ']

It's been fun.

Keep working on that guide. I've asked Fox and Fredin to keep working on theirs. It will be a tremendous boon to Serenes Forest, and the fandom as a whole.

y helo thar, you rang?

I'm trying to remember exactly when I joined FESS and exactly when I drifted away, and I'm really coming up blank. I'm pretty sure I joined before Rekka no Ken's release, though, and I know it's been a few years since I've been here.

But I think the fact that I am here to type this says something about what this community's meant to me. I've met some wonderful people here. Some of them I've drifted away from, same as I've drifted away from the forums at large, but some of them I still keep up with, and I really can't thank FESS enough for bringing them to me. (btw Bus, I demand a wedding invite someday or else. I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE. )

A lot of things have changed since I was here last -- myself included; I'm sure if I could go back and look at some of my old posts I'd probably want to give myself a good smack in the face. But some things don't change, and good memories are one of them. To those of you I know: thanks for making my time here so very worth remembering. To those of you I don't know: I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to meet you, but I bet you've made each other's memories of this place pretty awesome, too. To all of you: keep on rockin' in the free world.

PS: It is still a scientifically proven fact that Lenster is cooler than Thracia.

Iris is still around (on LJ), so I wouldn't find it odd if she came and posted something.DAMN YOU SAM

Shoen and Paola disappeared completely... as did Summerwolf, and she did it on a bad note, even. I blame Rosa.

Its sad to see it happen, but if FESS shuts down, well I was proud to be a member of it for a good part of those 6 and a half years.

Cheers FESS, you were my first and only FE board, and what got me into sprites, ROMs, and other things
