When I was young, I didn't take my schooling seriously. And now I'm paying the price.

I work retail. Still live with my parents. Tried to go to school earlier this year, but didn't have enough money to go and FAFSA didn't return my calls. Karma is... interesting, no?

I'd say push against your school's financial aid office and FAFSA's stuff together.  No reason why they shouldn't return calls.

Only reason I say this is is because I work at my college's financial aid office

Man, I feel your pain, Tauro. FAFSA was a bitch and a half for me too. Eaichu's right, just keep callin and callin and pushin and pushin until you finally get a hold of SOMEBODY who can help you. There's so much bureaucratic shit (and sometimes it feels like they love giving you the runaround) but persistence does pay off with those folks.

I'm going to college in the fall on a full ride, going to double major in Math/Physics and I'm not sure what I'm going to do from there.  I'm currently relaxing after enduring a six week summer program for the scholarship I'm in, though.

Fuck yeah, double Math/Physics majors represent!

... I feel dirty saying that.

So yeah, I'm a double Math/Physics major at UCSB entering my senior year (and hopefully final year). Spent my third year taking almost all my classes in graduate school (PhD level). I'm a total glutton for punishment academically and tend to take double loads. Summer is research time, and probably my favorite season of the year for that alone. It's like I was made for this shit (and importantly, what I focused on doing since coming here helped out). I work for two professors on campus theorycrafting, one in ecology; one in physics. Hoping desperately that in nine months I'll be able to figure out some awesome theoretical physics shit and write a thesis. Current topic: detecting gravitational waves using cold atom interferometry. What I wish I could do? Probably some hardcore numerical general relativity or quantum mechanics. But now is not the time to figure out how to be a l33t programmer in C and how to get the money for a fast enough computer.

This man. THIS MAN RIGHT HERE.

I, however, can't stand physics to the core, so, to this day, I'm a student at U of T Law Schools here in the fine clusterfuck of Toronto (early graduation, fuck yes) and essentially loving every particular second of it, being that with another year of study I finally earn a JD and join the private practice at a family member's, opening my own firm and hopefully earning a doctorate in the interim.

Well, that, and finally going through with the wedding engagement I've sort of put off for almost a year.

Barely graduated high school this year after a metric fuckton of health problems screwed my attendance and as a result my grades, which totally fucked up my plans to get into the medical field. So now I don't know what I'm going to do until next year when I can at least get into a community college.

Sorry straw_wolf, didn't see you in msn . Do you log in anymore?

Btw, you study astrophysics? That's cool! Always thought you were more into computers :X. What are your plans after getting the Phd?
Nice to hear from you! I miss the blurry duck's pic in msn
I do go on MSN but nowhere near as often so I'd pin down my absence to just bad timing.
In modern astrophysics there is plenty of computer usage and some coding work (obviously theoretical work has more emphasis on it than observational work, observational work being more what I do). As for what to do after the Phd, since the Phd should take 3 years* (pretty much everyone I know at my current university ends up taking longer) I have some time to think about it but if I keep in research I can go down the postdoc (since a Phd gets you a doctorate) researcher route (though how its looking in the UK it might be best to go abroad for this) and eventually become a university lecturer.

*-I'm told American Phds tend to take longer and I think that is due to how their college degrees tend to be in two fields.

have a job as a code monkey with other awesome code monkeys
ate a bagel
also joined some board
This board? Or is that an imposter I'm looking at? You see a few former FESSers ther...well, I've noticed Neon Z at the very least

*Peeks in and decides to post anyway*
In chronological order...

-Continued spriting, started breaking into more advanced graphics, but not very proficient as of yet.
-Grandfather died, being the only person I really cared about in my family, and moved back to my home town.
-Became obsessed with British English. Still nailing down the finer points.
-Got a kickass new computer that's all ready outdated. *sadface*
-Still Root Admin on my own boards and a kinda over-glorified Moderator an admin at Crystal Shard's place. [19 Aug 2010]
-Graduated early June Valedictorian (skimping by in AP Calc but rocking it hard in AP English 4 and fairly decently in AP European History).
-Bought the Tenth Doctor's coat. Exact replica but also durable and usable.
-Having trouble finding employment, but feeling good about a Radioshack application. (Dang morality questions on the Staples application killed me fo' sho').
-Played FE9, has FE10 for mah emulator but haven't played it (though I read the plot and into most of the characters and still managed to love it), and actually bought FE11, rather to my dismay. It was disappointingly easy, and some of the graphics make me queasy.
-Working on a hack to bridge FE7 and FE6, which is proving more successful than any previous attempts.
-Will hopefully be attending University of Kentucky in the spring don't need you fancy people with your fancy out of state colleges! to major in German and by the time I graduate will hopefully land a job at my old highschool teaching the language. Missed out on two entire years of the language while actually IN high school, so I'll be starting again with the lowest German classes.

Oh, and have been written RPing more frequently than nought all the while. And hopefully grew up a lot since the Weekly FESS days.

Hmm...

-I'm doing a BTEC National Diploma IT Practitioner. Basically I get to type a lot and get good grades...and use awful pieces of software like outdated Dreamweaver and Fireworks.
-I teaches the kids how to juggle.
-I've also been helping supervise and run parades in my town.
-And I'm gonna be working in a charity shop as a volunteer.

I think that's about all that's really interesting that has happened lately....

Well, We've got a day left, and I was putting this off, but hey, might as well, right?

Well, graduated from high school in '09 with some honors, and went off to George Mason University up in Fairfax, Virginia. Did fairly well, and finished off with a high C as my average, because I royally screwed up a class my first semester (Though, I maintain this wasn't my fault, because it was near impossible to find the requirements for the class, and it turns out I didn't meet them.  Still have an acceptable GPA, though, so alls good).

Went up there to study Computer Science, and have done incredibly well in the two classes I've done for it already (Though, one was Pass/Fail). Took two classes in Latin to fill out my elective requirements for my degree. And aced it in my sleep.

That's about it for me. I head back there in a little over a week (I head up on the 28th), and I'll begin classes again on the 30th.

Whoah, it's been a damn long time!

Well... since the forums went down, I've been quite busy. I'm now in my third year of conservatory study in Boston, still trying in vain to win composition contests. As of late, though, I've been finding a flair for poetry that's beginning to pay off as you can now find me as an irregular at Stone Soup Poetry over in Cambridge, MA.

Oh, and I've also joined a fraternity. Phi Mu Alpha, to be precise.

EDIT: Oh, should I also mention that I wrote a theme and variations on a tune from Kirby's Dream Land? And then got it performed by the conservatory orchestra?

<br /><br />I used to be known as Herr Wozzeck, Alban Berg, Arnold Schoenberg, Gingerbread House, Enrique, and Travis Touchdown.<br /><br />And, as you all know, Wozzeck is still my favorite opera.<br /><br />Since this is the year of Elliot Carter\'s 100th birthday, I think somebody on FESS needs to commemorate this critical American composer, yes? Avatar and Signature are of Elliot Carter, American composer and the originator of metric modulation.

Success FESSer is successful.

I don't have much to add about myself other than two things. Starting classes at University of Kentucky in January; possibly skipping over freshman year thanks to AP courses in high school.
Teamed up with a pal and might just be writing for a regular webcomic come January as well.

Still plugging away at George Mason University for my Computer Science degree. I swear, if the Gen Eds don't kill me, Calculus will.

God a job working at an on campus food place at the Graveyard shift. Pays decent, get free food, doesn't go against my lifestyle. ONly real downside is that I have to deal with all the drunken assholes who just LOVE ME!
