I love desert rock. It's also one damn good genre over here, cool scene. Also, just checked your last.fm. Based on your top artists, me thinks you need to listen to Mogwai. Nice Post-Rock, similar to Sigur Ros.

What in God's name is Desert Rock?
Also known as stoner rock, it's a slow tempo rock, normally kinda metal. Think Black Sabbath but from the 90s and with more psychedelia.
Oh, also, it has blues influences (bluesy riffs mainly), which makes the genre slightly different from sludge metal.

Any bands I should look out for?

Kyuss is considered the first stoner band because they made the genre popular. They were from Palm Desert, hence the other name, desert rock. Other important bands are Yawning Man, Sleep (not a fan though), Dozer, Fatso Jetson, Colour Haze (from Germany), Los Natas (from Argentina) and all the bands that former members of Kyuss formed.

EDIT: I thought you were mainly into rap though.

Queens of the Stone Age is the probably the most well-known act in that scene, and the one that the most people who don't know about desert rock as a thing have still heard of.

Well, I like Queens of the Stone Age, so that's a good thing. I'll check those bands out when I have some time.

As for my tastes, they're fairly eclectic. I do like rap, but I admit I'm a bit of a snob about it. Most of the stuff you hear on the radio is stuff I don't go near because it sucks. I have no interest in hearing the same 10 dudes talking about capping the same 10 other dudes in the ass, or fucking the same 30 hos. The names and faces change, but it doesn't matter because ultimately, they fit a commercial niche, talking about fucking white people up while being exploited by rich white men. I'm much more interested in rap that is 1) intelligent, and 2) has a soulful beat. Common, Lupe Fiasco, and Kanye West before he went cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs are the people that I like to listen to. Groups like A Tribe Called Quest and Gang Starr. Stuff like that.

So, Bus, I'm guessing you can be styled as a Pharell Williams fan on top of that?

For the record, if you are in fact looking for desert rock, Kyuss is often your best bet being that they were often the largest in the industry in their time. Keep in mind to view songs from the original album recordings, though, not the pathetic grouping somehow referred to as their "greatest hits."

QotSA are, IMO (because music genre stuff is always at least partially subjective), borderline stoner/desert. I mean, I fucking love 'em, but they are probably not the best example of the genre.
On an unrelated note, I'm going to attend a gig with QotSA and Rage Against the Machine, and the fuckers that organize the event thought it was cool to add a VIP field zone next to the stage... Who the fucks attends to a gig of Rage Against the Machine in a VIP field???
