QotSA are, IMO (because music genre stuff is always at least partially subjective), borderline stoner/desert. I mean, I fucking love 'em, but they are probably not the best example of the genre.
On an unrelated note, I'm going to attend a gig with QotSA and Rage Against the Machine, and the fuckers that organize the event thought it was cool to add a VIP field zone next to the stage... Who the fucks attends to a gig of Rage Against the Machine in a VIP field???
They somehow have started adding those places here lately (Argentina), whereas a couple of years back it rarely occured
