So, I was walking today, searching for a present for my little sis and mother, when I stumbled upon Nightmare (not me, btw) by Avenged Sevenfold at around 9 dollars. I bought it right away, since I knew it was far pricier at home.

What surprises me is that it is far cheaper (in a % kind of basis) that online and the US. Wtf? (I study in Argentina, btw, and no, the cd is NOT in spanish xD! I'd kill myself first)

See the prices at amazon and bestbuy:

http://www.amazon.com/Nightmare-Avenged-Sevenfold/dp/B003OF3R0S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292634498&sr=8-1

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Nightmare+%5BPA%5D+-+CD/1063148.p?id=2135557&skuId=1063148&st=avenged%20sevenfold

That's like 50% more. It should be the other way around (with the shipping and shit) Weird, huh?

I want to blame it being the international version.  It's similar to how versions of the exact textbooks cost less over there than in America because of that little print.  They're illegal to sell in the US because of the copyright laws though.

Of course that's my theory.

I haven't followed prices for CDs since I... you know... stopped buying them. I'd imagine that one of the reasons prices dropped is because they have to compete with iTunes and all of the other digital distribution mediums. For awhile, CDs were like $18, $19. And they wondered why everyone was pirating everything.

I can get CDs in a Brick and Mortar store for about $10, which seems reasonable. But I notice ordering them online tends to be pricier. Additionally, downloads are much cheaper, but of lesser quality, unless they are lossless (FLAC, ALAC, WAV), which most digital distribution websites don't offer. I end up pirating, and then buying what I like. I also collect vinyls.
