Before I begin, I'd like to say I've probably already been disproved/proved by someone some time ago.

Okay, then. Tonight, I just happened to be forging a wind tome for Soren (At the base of Chapter 3-10), when I decided I would use my last coin on that tome. I 'chose' a card with nothing on it (it was the middle card, in case you're wondering), so naturally, I decided to reset the Wii (with the Wiimote) to see if I could get something different. When I tried to forge the tome again (same stats and color) with the same coin (it was my last, after all), I chose a different card from my 'options' with the same result: nothing on it beside the vines. So I reset again, again, and again, each time changing something, but everytime, though the 'options' might be different, the card I picked was the same.

While my little 'tests' most likely weren't all too inclusive, they may be a sign that the cards are not a choice made by the player, but by the computer.

And I've been up for a while, so this may just make sense to my tired mind.

It is already predetermined, so restarting won't work. There was something about it at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/elaice/, but I can't seem to find it now . I know it's there, somewhere . If I find it I will edit my post with the exact page.

I don't quite remember well, but the card that you get changes if you feed one level of BEXP to anyone, or change the weapon you want to forge, but you still have to forge two weapons for that .

I truly can't recall wich one works or if both of them do, but at least one of them does.

It is only determined by the first time. A players guide will tell you that restarting will not work. So for the first time, you have just got to select the card that you want quickly before it ends up in the shuffle. No the cards do not m9ix up in the shuffles either. Like for example, if an Arrow card appears in the middle, slecet there and viola, it's you boom another +10 to Hit.

Hmm, yes, I noticed this too... it seems strange that the card picked for forging is always locked; but the stats gained when you use bexp are not (however, it is considerably more likely that you'll get a high growth than a low one as one of the 3 picked, for obvious reasons, which can from time to time make it seem like its locked; but my hour spent ensuring Micaiah got Speed in three level ups wasn't a total waste )

Of course, if you do have coins to spare, and want to move onto the next card, you can simply forge a trashy no bonus weapon and use it as a normal one (like a Steel Lance or whatever).
