Mechner, who can be seen in the new Starz Entertainment documentary, "Hollywood Goes Gaming," talks about working with Bruckheimer on the new movie, as well as the games it's based on, in this exclusive interview.

sounds okay, right?

Michael Bay was at one point rumored to be directing the film, however recent rumors have stated Mike Newell will be directing. In a recent interview Newell stated "It's a great story. If you had read the script, you would know that it wasn't a video game. It's very exciting and it's immensely romantic and it's like Lost Horizon. It takes you to somewhere you've never been."

Newell has an assistant playing the video games to brief him on key details. "There's so much that will happen with that story because it's 1300 years ago. This girl who was actually a kind of priest... I'm sorry, I've been on it five days. I'm full of f***ing ideas. It'll be terrific."

I'm left wondering how much they're gonna rape this movie.

I'll state my ideas about this videogame movie craze. As you can see, pretty much every mainstream videogame has been thought to be material for movies; this has happened before with quite a few things (old comic heroes, classic literature, and old cartoons; Chipmunks anyone?). This happens quite often, mainly when Hollywood runs out of original ideas to milk out our money. Now we gamers are the target, since we apparently are dumb enough to go see a movie because it has the name of a videogame we have played before (normally under the excuse of checking it out) even thought we know it has very little to do with the game we actually played (this movie WILL be an example of this, I can tell by the rantings of this dastard).  Seriously if you go see this kind of shit (or will be shit) you're just telling Hollywood we ARE the dumbfucks they think us to be and that we'll pay to see their shitty adaptations and their brutal rapes of our favorite videogames.

To be fair, it'd be fairly pointless to make a movie that follows the video game's plot exactly since anyone who's played the game would know exactly what's going to happen...

To be more fair, we were all saying the exact same thing about the Transformers movie...

It would fairly pointless to make a movie about a videogame period.

Well, if we weren't, video game movies wouldn't make any money, would they? Or maybe they get revenue largely from people who've never played the game, which would kind of make this part of the post null, right?

Wait, and "you can tell by the rantings of this dastard?" Like, how? At least, how so more than any other movie adaption?

What movies are we allowed to see, then, by your reckoning, without being Hollywood's bitch?

You can try movies that ain't from Hollywood! That or at the least try to see the ones that have an original story and don't rely on the popularity of the name of the game or the cartoon they chose to imitate.

Now Yokai, we can tell when the director has their minds full of "fucking ideas". "Girl? PRIEST?!" Seriously with that quote I KNOW this won't be turning out good at least not the way Prince if Persia should be.

Then why make movies about books that follow the plot exactly?

Why does this rule apply only to video game movies?

Original and good aren't always synonymous...I find it much more reliable to see movies that appear entertaining, regardless of the source material. Never mind that you haven't said how Hollywood fucks everything up that's adapted from something else...
"Take my word for it/Trust me, I know/Isn't it obvious?" No, not really, because it's a rare movie I see that I don't enjoy. That might just be me, though.

How? I think I'm just short on background knowledge from Prince of Persia.

Erm... They don't...

Movies based on books aren't all that accurate to the books, either. The LotR movies weren't perfect adaptations, nor was the Chronicals of Narnia movies, Eragon, the list goes on.
