I'm assuming most people know of this, or have heard of this, but the Wii encryption was broken so now you can delve into the data of Wii games.

I myself wasn't able to obtain the FE10 iso, but thanks to SwordsAreShiney I've had more than enough resources to work on XD

To begin with, the first thing I did when I got hold of the data files was to look at the character growth rates. Some might remember that the original growth rates were obtained from guidebooks and we had to put our trust in their values. Luckily I found the majority of the growth rates are identical so there's need to worry too much.

However Heather's Str growth is actually 25% as opposed to 20% (to be fair some guidebooks actually listed it as 25%). The biggest (and only other) change however is that Nolan's Luck growth is 60% and not 30%. I don't know why it's different- I haven't had the chance to look at the Japanese data files to see if it was changed.

Next is probably the interesting stuff, which is unused data. This time there isn't actually that much unused data in the game, which probably isn't completely unexpected since this game was supposed to tie up all the loose ends of FE9.

However, a certain unused item under the White Gem here did make my day : )

Aside from that, other unused items include the Frey Bomb (AKA Mine), Wild Stone (most likely a Wildheart version of the Laguz Gem), some accessories from FE9 (eg. Beorcguard), 2 dark variants of the final boss's special attacks, two Spirit healing "items" (haven't looked into them yet), Slim Lance (wow...), Maelstrom/Vortex as an item and that's about it.

There are no notable unused classes. Well, except the DEBUG class which seems to be a Hero with all weapon ranks at SS. I haven't really looked at it yet since it's not a "standard" class.

I don't think there's any unused characters, or notable characters at least. However...

I haven't looked much at the music, but according to SaS, not even counting alternate versions of about 1/4 of all the songs, there's about 30 or so completely unused tracks. I'm hoping he'll put them up one day XD

Same with the sprites, but you can just check them all out at FEP. I haven't played the game so I don't know which ones are used or not.

I think the last interesting thing to comment on is an unfinished sypnosis/digest of the whole story (unfortunately it stops halfway through Part 3). Most of the story looks unchanged, but there were some differences that I noticed.

Fiona's land had a different name (Rino) and so did Duke Felirae (Charolai). In Part 1 Muarim almost became a Feral One before he was saved by Rafiel's Galdr of Rebirth. In Part 3 Reyson sung the Galdr of Rebirth to vitalise Ike's army so that they could retreat from Begnion. Also Ike and the others originally chose to enter Goldoa, instead of entering by accident. Dheginsea also appeared in the battlefield, which finally made the Begnion army retreat (instead of them getting lost).

Also, did the Begnion occupation soldiers ever use catapults in the story? o__o

Yes, I believe the Begnion occupation forces did use catapults or something in the story.

It was at the start 1-F, where Micaiah had to rush the Daien Keep because he was catapulting/bombarding the surrounding city constantly.

Otherwise, nice finds. I'm a little disappointed though that there aren't too many interesting unused weapons in the game.

I was hoping for a couple of more personal weapons that never made it in for some reason.

Wow, I never knew that about nolan and heather. Nice job in finding out these stuff. I look forward to future research in game unless it is done.

In Part 1 Muarim almost became a Feral One before he was saved by Rafiel's Galdr of Rebirth.
I'm pretty sure that scene is in the final game.

Once I come up with names for the other ones, I'll probably put them up.

If someone has any idea what "kyoten" or "shujinkousibou" (I'm assuming shujin kousibou?) mean, then I'll probably be done with naming them and I'll put them up.

Judging by the icons, it seems that once again the Devil Axe is in the data, but is not obtainable. Kinda funny, really... Maybe it looked too much like Soul Edge?

EDIT: Speaking of unused music, I was always wondering why Nailah was the only royal without a battle theme... With so many unused songs, I can't help but wonder if one was intended to be hers.

Whoa. Someone needs to make a final version of this game.

Anyways, I always knew Heather wasn't so weak, and Nolan's luck was really high.

What's weird though, is that item under White Gem. I wonder how you would move around with it...

I know it's there. I recently did a playthrough to try out Pelleas, and since I don't like skipping the story, I watched it when it happened. I believe it happens after the prisoner rescue chapter in the swamp.

Some more bunches of stuff I've been screwing around with...

Internal name-wise, almost all of the skills featuring in FE9 have the FE9NA name as internal (thus, ADEPT, VANTAGE, etc.).

As for weapons, CALADBORG, TARVOS, and LUGHNASADH are only in the NA version. Greatlances are SPEAR (IRONSPEAR, etc.). Varg Katti/Vague Katti is VAGUEKATTI, Sehnsucht/Wishblade is still ZANEZPHTE, Urvan is URVAN, Ballefleche/Double Bow is VALFLECHE. The Dark magic has screwed up names, Carreau is KAREAU, Verrine UERINE, and Balberith BARVERT (wtf?). And Seinii/Thani is THANY because we can't have enough of our beloved FE6.

There are internal names for each of the full-map attacks (Cepheran has two CEPHERAN_AL and CEPHERAN_SL, Dheginhansea one DHEGINHANSEA_AP, Lekain one LEKAIN_SLNC).

The best part is the internal name for Fury/Ire: DISPLEASURE. Best understatement ever.
(At least, I assume that's the internal name. None of the other names fit at all.)

Definitely in the final game.

Code:
1   Laguz Stone (2)
2  1
3  4000
4  Unused
5
6  Wild Stone
7  1
8  6000
9  Unused

To me it's common sense what the others do, but these two I simply cannot figure out for the life of me.  Is the first one just an alternate version of the laguz stone with the second one being an alternate laguz gem...?

Also, VASM the Laguz Gem's worth would be 75000 because it sells for 37.5K.

Thanks, I assumed it couldn't be sold like the Master Crown and Satori Signs.

Argh, I forgot what kyoten is. I'll have to look it up. EDIT: It's "base".

I think the last is "hero death" (eg Micaiah or Ike).

I'm assuming the former is a Laguz Stone at 1 use remaining (like in FE9). The latter is probably a Wildheart/Demi version of the Laguz Gem since its Japanese name is Demi-Transform Gem (compared to the Transform Gem/Laguz Gem).

Alright, thanks. I found Part 1 kind of boring so I skimmed through the text.

Was Nico hurt by a catapult as well? o__o

Ah, I thought as much when I suddenly saw there were sprites in the weapon topics on Serenes Forest. A shame there aren't as many unused things as in the previous game, though we're not really losing out. If anything, it means more of it has actually made it into the game, .

Hmm, does Hetzel say anything during the end of Part 4 Endgame-1? I've seen a conversation where he survives and Sanaki says something about punishing him later.

It's impossible to keep him alive, right?

As far as I know, yes. Even Sanaki and Micaiah will refuse to spare Hetzel if you have them attack him (and you can't choose to simply not fight him since the mission requires you to rout the enemy).

Maybe the second Laguz Stone and the Wild Stone are items givem to some laguz in certain chapters and automatically used so they start transformed. The wild stone would do the same but automatically demi-transforming a laguz (that would be used on Volug so he already came demi-transformed on the chapters of Part 1).

If you mean to keep them in animal form the entire mission, there's already the Laguz Gem for that.

Also, the blue Laguz Stones were available and usable in FE9. They had the same effect as the normal yellow/orange one, they were just one-use.

Thanks, I thought as much. Anyway, the dialogue:

Quote
Hetzel: ...I was only following Lekain's orders... I never meant any harm.  Please, my empress... forgive me... Please!
Sanaki: Your crimes will be punished in due time. Until then, just wait here patiently.  I'm sorry it has to come to this, but I must go see the goddess and save the people of Begnion.
