In the cinema scene where all the laguz kings join up to talk about Ashnard and the medallion, Cainghis comes with 3 other subordinates that never take human form (one of which we know is Ranulf). The two we don't know are a blue tiger and a yellow cat. For a while, I thought these two were just generic until I took a close look at the yellow cat... Specifically, it is wearing a single-ribbon that looks a lot like the one that Lyre has in Radiant Dawn. Aside from Mordecai, the only other blue tiger you meet is Kyza, who I haven't had the pleasure of using just yet (actually planned to in my next playthrough since unlike Mordecai, he actually won't get doubled in animal form >.>), so I unfortunetly can't vouch for him... For those who have, does he look like the tiger in the cinema scene?

It would make sense since even in FE9, Ranulf confirms that they're working under him now, and since Ranulf was going to travel with the king, it's only natural he'd pick a couple notable subordinates to come with him.

Makes sense I admit, as Ranulf always said in his support with Lethe that he had Lyre  under him, but Kyza is NOT blue, more like a gray or black tiger.

I assumed that the subordinates featured in the CGI were supposed to be Lethe and Mordecai, meaning that their timing between joining Ike and co.  and the royal laguz meeting was originally intended to be different from how it worked out.

In which case, I always did find that part of the CGI a bit odd.

I can't speak for the tiger, but I can confirm that the ribbon the cat wears is like that of Lyre and not at all like that of Lethe. Lyre's is single-stranded and is a tad hard to figure out color scheme of (I'm assuming Lyre's ribbon in FE10 is one of those silvery ribbons that show off a rainbow depending on how light hits the material), unlike Lethe's ribbon, which is green and two-stranded.

In FE10, Lire's ribbon is single with no bell (to my knowledge, at least). It's colored from purple at the base through the spectrum to red to white on her art; her face sprite shows it as purple (only the underside is shown in both cases; I have yet to see her battle model yet, so...). Her gloves are pink.

FE9's cat has a single ribbon, green on top, red on the bottom, with no bell. Its gloves are purple (fairly distinct from Lire's pink, by the way). (Of course, it's always possible that she changed her outfit between games. On the other hand, Rethe's outfit did not change at all except for her waistpouch; everything down to the bead in her hair is identical.)

All I can positively determine is that it's definitely not Rethe in the FE9 movie. Rethe has a twin green ribbon with bells on both ends and white gloves.

Yeah, but Lethe is a lot different from her sister. She's a lot more headstrong and doesn't seem like the type to like change very often (as shown by the fact she resists being friends with the team for some time, even after she's ordered to join their army). Lyre is much more free spirited, and probably wouldn't mind changing up every so often to keep things interesting (and going by her taste in fashion, she'd probably stick to some fairly girly colors when she does... Purple can stick to that theme fairly easily).

I severely doubt they've thought about it that much when making the game. Perhaps they are Kyza and Lyre and it's just that her outfit's changed, or perhaps they're simply generic units.

I thought that they could just be generic units, but generic tigers are gray/black and generic cats don't have any ribbons.

Still overanalyzing, I think--not generic as in the default unit appearance, but as in they just threw together a cat and a tiger to guard Caineghis.

Then why bother making the tiger blue and with a moehawk and make the cat have a ribbon? The default generic looks are easy designs since they have nothing special, so why go through the effort of adding anything extra? Not to mention the fact that nobody else in that scene is generic (Ranulf is obviously the blue cat, the hawks with Tibarn are Janaff and Ulki, and the raven with Naesala is Nealuichi).

I see.... Still, why would they bother modelling a generic cat and tiger that's so different from the normal generic models you run into? Likewise, why include them at all if they aren't anything notable while everyone else in that scene is? And I find it funny people accuse me of overanalyzing this when it's done in other plot discussions all the time, but nobody ever calls anyone out on overanalyzing there...

I'm not a game design guy, so I'm probably getting out of my league here, but I don't think they had "default" CGI models the same way they had default map models and battle screen models. I doubt they had a template for "cutscene laguz" or anything which they decided to edit, as I think you're implying. I'm going to stop this argument at this post, though, because I need actual knowledge of the game data to go any further.

"Hey, Caineghis needs a couple more guards." "But we don't have any more characters to use." "Why bother making some, let's throw together some cool looking laguz and be done with it!"

I won't speak for anyone else, but either I'm not in these discussions, I think it and don't say anything, or I DO call people out.

I realize that the models for the in-game animations and CG models are different, but it doesn't change that the generic tiger and cat are easier to make and use than to go through the effort of making a more complex model. I guess I can't speak too much on the tiger since I never used Kyza and have to take everyone's word for it, but the cat has a multicolored ribbon and gloves that are a fairly girly color. Both are characteristics that Lyre has in her RD model. They're not a perfect match, but since she has no other appearance in PoR and doesn't take human form, they could have easily made a few changes to her choice in attire by the time RD rolled around since nobody would know the difference and the new colors fit her taste in fashion just as well as her old ones.

Maybe the two were thrown together for the cinema as it has been stated, and that later in development, the designers decided to use that model for Lyre's design in RD, maybe just tweaking the color scheme a bit.

But why make the cat female, then? They don't have generic female units anywhere else in the game aside from Oliver's two pegasus knights, so why would they have done it just for the cinema when two generic ones would have worked just fine and have been a lot less work to make?

Because Caineghis is King, and Kings don't just go around with just anybody, so perhaps they decided to give the Cat a litter character, and as Lethe shows, scarfs don't change with the wearer, so the decided t go with one like that. Your idea is good too though.
