With me being a Wii owner now, Hinata is getting my Gamecube; with it, a new Memory Card.

I'm trying to transfer my PoR data to her card, as it contains both my game and her's. The Wii memory card manager says that I cannot do that; "this data cannot be copied", though it CAN be moved, which is useless, as if I move it, I don't get to play.

So I figure OK, let's try to do an old-fashioned swap by loading her data, switching cards, and then saving to the new card. Nope! It wants the original memory card that data was loaded from.

Questions:

1) Is this normal?

2) If yes, why the fuck is my game save DRMed?

3) If it's not normal, how can I fix it?

4) Ultimately, is this exchange possible, or is she going to have to wait for me to show up in order to continue her game, or at worst, start a completely new game altogether?

I know that you just can't copy some Gamecube game saves, they've disallowed certain ones as to prevent abuse and stuff... at least, IIRC you can't.  That could be the case with FE9, I suppose.

The situation sounds familiar.  I think I tried to do the exact same thing, and got the same message.  Personally, I have no idea how to get around this, if it's possible.  Certainly not very user friendly...

I'm pretty sure it's there so that you can't suspend at a key point in a chapter, copy over the data, and then use the second as a backup if you screw up on the first card.

A related topic was mentioned in the "Codes" sticky.  Also, I believe Neofox's conclusion is correct, as it is the same one I came to when I ran across the problem (trying to seperate my data from my brother's).  The fix mentioned in that thread was useless to me, as I don't own a cheating device, however.

The website you linked is still up-to-date.  I just wanted to point out that, thanks to a PAL user named Ralf, there are now codes to ... make the Fire Emblem save copyable.  These codes are for both the U.S. and PAL versions of the game.

As far as using the action replay goes you'll have to do all that on the Gamecube. Action replays don't work on Wii. Why? Becuase Nintendo decided to target people that play imported gamecube games they do own rather then dealing with pirates on thier current system...

But if you don't want to go down that route you can use the EMS USB memory card I don't know its vistra compatability but it took some tweeking to get it to work properly on XP to go like this:
1.Move POR save to EMS.
2.Plug EMS into PC.
3.Copy POR save to PC (Apparently at this point there is a way to remove the copy protection but i've never looked into it)
4.Move POR back to meory card.
5.Copy POR save from PC onto EMS memory card.

It is an alternative but if you don't own an action replay or such a memory card you're going to have to pay either way. The EMS memory card should in theory work on your Wii (don't have a wii to use it on and I know some 3rd party memory cards get stuck in the Wiis memory card slots)

I still find it weird how Path of Radiance is the only Gamecube game i've seen where you can move but not copy. Usually if copy if greyed out so is move.

I know you can't copy Animal Crossing as well.   I'm sure that there are more than just these two as well, though...

Pokemon Colosseum and X D: Gale of Darkness suffer from it, too.

I wouldn't call that "saving" cash; going rate for those things on eBay right now is $40.

Considering what the price of a new Action Replay was (Either $50 (Deluxe) or $40 (Normal)), it's not all that bad. Plus you might find that she wants to use it on more than just FE:PoR for this and you can fork her questions about the thing off to me.

Also, I should note that it comes (Assuming you're getting an un-opened one) with a memory card that you can use for anything (I WOULD spend the money on the Deluxe version if you can: Just a $10 difference IIRC, and it comes with a 1024 Block (I didn't type that wrong) card).

It's normal. I'm guessing that the reason they did this was because they were afraid people would abuse suspend saves with two memory cards. Do a suspend save, copy it to your other memory card, and then you've basically got a permanent midchapter save you can go back to if things go wrong and that lets you cheat permadeath. Kind of strange to do this to the US version (I'm pretty sure it's not in the JP version) when you've already made it a lot easier so such tricks are hardly even needed, though. It IS annoying (they do it with a couple of other games too - I have to switch cards whenever I want to play F-Zero GX).

Cheapest thing I can think of to do is to copy all your other data over to the new memory card (if you don't have any other card-locked games) and give her your old one. Of course, that only works if you're done playing FE9, and you'll need the card again if you want to replay it.

I only own a JP verison and on the BIOS move and delete are selectable, copy is not.
