Inspector GadgetAnyone seen this show that came out in 1983 and the broadcast stopped at 1986? I have and this has to be like the funniest cartoon ever made. It's about a bionic police officer that is a very nice guy, but also absent minded and that in story he got his gadgets by falling down the stairs slipping on a bannana peel. In the movie, he got his gadgets as Sanfred Sculex (Dr.Claw) threw a dynamite as gadget got trapped under the truck. Well in the cartoon, Dr.Claw the head of the organization of M.A.D doesn't really seem to get gadget. This has to be one of my favorite cartoons as it pretty much is like a cross between Sherlock Holmes and Carmen Sandiego. Well gadget is nothing like Sherlock Holmes at all, he is rather opposite of him, and that Dr.Claw doesn't seem to ever get caught in the cartoon as it has 86 episodes including a few movies (5 of them to be exact) as "Gadget who saves chrismas" was my most favorite movie. Don Adams does the voice of Inspector Gadget, YAY!
He was someone who acted in "Get Smart" and that he used to join the Marine Corps. Also, the character he had played as in "Get Smart", he had also played Maxwell Smart, the lead character in Get Smart. Okay, now to sum up on what the show is like to those who have never seen it before... Kay, it's about gadget as he must solve cases from a criminal mastermind Dr.Claw from conquering the world and that Penny, she solves most of his cases for him and that Brain, (Inspector Gadget's') pet always seems to get gadget out of trouble. Even though gadget doesn't know it, his niece (Penny) is absolutely an incredible hero and that truely she is a great detective. If she is this good at her age, just imagine on how she will be when she grows up. It is always the funniest part in every episode whenever that the chief (Chief Quimby) gives gadget an assignment that always seems to explodes after gadget reads it. Where does Quimby get the explosive paper from.
Well it is funniest in every episode when gadget throws an assignment at Quimby's face and that Quimby always says afterwards..."Uhh...why do I put up with him." It is certainly rewarding to watch this show as it is sweet to hear Don Adams' voice(the voice of inspector Gadget). Anyways, without Penny and Brain helping out in gadget's cases, without brain, gadget would be dead as brain saves gadget from danger that the M.A.D agents plots traps upon him. Without Penny, gadget would be fired as she is almost always the one to do his cases for him, even though Gadget takes all of the credit. But gadget is unaware that his niece is a true super hero.
Watching these on Youtube the last couple of nights convinced me to create this topic because this is a cartoon to never be forgotten as this is a cartoon suitible for all ages to enjoy. I like it at the end of every episode that Dr.Claw always says "I'll get you next time gadget, next time!" Gadget also almost always mistakens his dog Brain for a M.A.D agent even though the people that he helps are actually usually the real M.A.D agents. Even though that the M.A.D agents that gadget thinks that they are good citizens tries to destroy gadget, gadget always mistakens Brain for the M.A.D agents that he is trying to look for. Brain is my most favorite character as he is truely an incredible wonder dog that always helps get gadget out of trouble that the M.A.D agents tries to plot upon gadget. Dr.Claw, the mastermind behind M.A.D doesn't ever seem to get caught and that you really cannot ever see his face. He is uncatchible making him like Carmen Sandiego. It is rather gratifying to see Claw taking the matters into his own hands to try to destroy gadget as he rarely leves his castle, or mad jet/sub. Gadget also has a really cool car...the gadget mobile, that can go twice as fast that it would be by leaving it as the gadget van. It is never known upon how much gadgets that gadget has..but by seeing a small list here is upon some of the gadgets that gadget uses most commonly.
(Wikipedia)Most commonly used gadgets
Gadget Binoculars: Binoculars lower down out of his hat and over his eyes.
Gadget 'Brella: A hand holding an umbrella that comes out of his hat. It can be used as a parachute. More often than not, he will fall rapidly when using his 'Brella' when it turns inside-out.
Gadget Coat: His trench coat inflates when he pulls one of its buttons and enables him to float — in water or in the sky. It is almost always deflated by being punctured, causing him to shoot through the sky as the air is released before falling from a great height. However, in "Winter Olympics" (Pilot episode, Season 1), Gagdet refers to it as "Gadget blimp".
Gadget Copter: Helicopter propeller blades that come out of his hat that enable him to fly.
Gadget Cuffs: A handcuff comes out of his forearm just above his hand.
Gadget Hands: Several mechanical hands can pop out of Gadget's hat. These hands will sometimes hold various objects including a camera, a motorized fan, a spotlight, a can opener, and other useful things. Of course, there are times when they will also be holding something useless or unhelpful to the situation.
Gadget Legs/Arms/Neck: His neck, arms, and legs can telescope and extend to great lengths.
Gadget Legs (springs): As well as being telescopic, his legs can also extend with springs, which is useful for jumping and landing.
Top-Secret Gadget Phone: A telephone in his hand. The earpiece is located in his thumb, while the mouthpiece is located in his pinky finger. This is one of the few gadgets that is not voice activated; Instead, Chief Quimby activates it by calling Gadget. (There is also a regular telephone inside Gadget's hat.)
Gadget Skates: Roller skates come out of the bottom of his shoes. He is often very clumsy and struggles to keep his balance on the skates. Later in the series, he tries adding his own modifications in the form of rockets that come out from the sides. These have even more glitches than most of his gadgets for their first few appearances.
Gadget Springs: A spring comes out of his hat (he also has one in each shoe), enabling him to bounce, usually when falling head first and hitting his head against the ground.
[edit] Other gadgets
Gadget Flower: A mechanical hand holding a big sunflower emerges from his hat and can either spray water or sleep gas towards an enemy.
Gadget Ears: Metal cones that deploy from his head, around his ears, allowing him to hear better.
Gadget Laniard: A mechanical laniard extends from his belt buckle allowing him to attach himself to various objects
Gadget Flaps: Mechanical Flaps extend from his waist allowing him to glide smoothly, often used in conjunction with the above allowing him to attach to various forms of transport and escape precarious situations.
Gadget Hat Doff: When Gadget greets a lady, instead of doffing his hat, a mechanical hand emerges from his hat, in the hand is another hat; from this other hat emerges a second mechanical hand, which is also holding a hat. This gadget was only seen once, in the episode, Do Unto Udders.
Gadget Tie: His necktie becomes a lasso.
Gadget Magnets: Magnets come out of the bottom of his shoes. More often than not, the magnets end up sticking to any metallic object with a magnetic attraction, just like Captain Planet's "magnetic" personality. It is sometimes useful when attempting to avoid slipping on slippery surfaces.
Gadget Mallet: A wooden hammer held in a robotic hand that also comes out of his hat. It usually winds up bopping someone it should not -- sometimes even the Inspector himself.
Gadget Parachute: A relatively small, red parachute which was used only in episode #48, Do Unto Udders.
Gadget Respirator: A self-contained breathing mask and the only gadget that Gadget has to physically reach for and pull on as he said his "Go-Go-Gadget" command for it.
Gadget Refridge-a-Gadget: A gloved hand holding an unmarked aerosol can appears out of his hat and sprays a substance that immediately reduces the surrounding area to subzero temperatures. This gadget was only used in Health Spa (though its name was not called) and Gadget's Gadgets.
Gadget Siren: A police light and siren emerge from the top of his hat.
Gadget Skis: a pair of skis that extend out of the front and back of his shoes.
Gadget Teeth: Gadget's teeth deploy from his mouth and fly about.
Gadget Wind Sail: A huge wind sail emerges from his hat, which, when combined with Gadget Skis, allows him to wind sail down a snowy track (used only once, in Bad Altitude)
Gadget Radar: A radar emerges from his hat (used in Dutch Treat)
Finger Gadgets: There are several gadgets inside his fingers, accessed by taking the end off his finger to expose the gadget. These include a flashlight, skeleton key, laser, pen, screwdriver, drill bit, snow gun, corkscrew, water pistol, and whistle.
Anyways, my favorite gadget is the gadget copter as you can fly like a bird as many little kids dreams that they wish that they could fly. But the gadget copter is coolest as you can fly feeling the breezy wind flap in your face. I don't really like the gadget coat, as it allows gadget's trench coat to inflate as it almost always seems to pop by something that is sharp. It is also very nice that in the end of some episodes, gadget and Penny offers safety tips upon which little kids must know. Later on in the show sometime in season two, you see a super hero dressing guy (that wears glasses) that thinks that he can fly, but cannot and that he is just as absent minded as Inspector Gadget.
Gadget has 65 episodes that he is alone (alongside with Penny and Brain in secret) and 24 episodes alongside his annoying sidekick Corperal Capeman. It's funny whenever that Capeman tries to actually fly as he actually falls (getting saved by Brain of course), Man, what a special case that this dog is. This has to be like my most favorite cartoon as it is probably the funniest cartoon ever made!!!!! Penny, she has a computer book which functions alot like a laptop is pretty cool as she uses it frequently to help solve gadget's cases. My most favorite episodes are "Movie Set",Art Heist", and Sleeping gas". Though it is also rather funny when Dr.Claw bangs on his desk whenever that his mission fails, usually beating up his pet M.A.D Cat. Though it is also rather cute when he pets his kitty during many of the episodes.
"Movie Set" is my most favorite episode as it is about a pretty actress that gadget goes ga ga over as he really acts like a fool in this episode, (but can't help it though as she is very beautiful) not knowing that in disguise that she is a M.A.D agent and that gadget's mission is to keep her from learning military secrets as they shoot a movie at a military base. Lana Lamour, evil, but very beautiful. Gadget thinks that she isn't a M.A.D agent, well he fell for her. With him not knowing that evil doesn't always have an ugly face you know.
"Art Heist" is my second favorite episode as it is about that gadget must stop the M.A.D agents from stealing the art treasures from the world trade center in New York. It is rather cool as Dr.Claw sends robots to steal the art treasures and disables the security systems, that is until Gadget and Brain destroys the robots (even though that gadget is unaware of them thinking that they are statues. xD) Anyways, this episode is my second favorite as it is rather cool to see robots robbing the world trade center that Dr.Claw sends after.
"Sleeping Gas" is my third most favorite episode as it is about Dr.Claw trying to put entire cities to sleep as they will be under his power while they are asleep. Gadget thinks that they're are flies that are invisible as he bought the fib that the M.A.D agent (the Hotel Manager) was talling him about even though that he tried to put gadget to sleep many many times. Gadget avoided these traps, unaware that they are actually are traps. And that what makes this my third favorite epiosde is that Penny actually saves gadget's life while gadget destroyed a gas pipe in the gas factory, disguised as a mountain, thinking that the gas pipe is actually the invisible flies, nest. Anyway, the flies that the hotel manager was fibbing about to cover the lies of the sleeping gas plot is about that if the flies bites you it puts you to sleep temporarily. And it is funny that gadget actually believed this fib. Anyways, this is a great episode as this is actually a time the Dr.Claw takes some matters into his own hands instead of having his agents do all of the work, punishing them whenever that they fail.
I also like Penny's wristwatch which acts like a communicator for Brain's dog collar (which this feature was also introduced in the Inspector Gadget Movie, Michelle Trachenberg played as Penny in the first movie. The M.A.D mobile was kind of cool, as it functioned like a submarine as it also can fly in the skies.
Wathc these as all three Parts of these videoclips in each episode is actually the entire episode itself!

I've also bought the DVD box sets to get every episode of this show, as I really love it. I hope you guys love it too, as this is certainly a cartoon to never be forgotton.
See this link to prove that this was definitely one of the bestest cartoons ever made. Too bad that it is off the air now, as now the only way to see this cartoon now is to either watch the episodes on Youtube, or order the DVD box sets!
